Devils' Lou Lamoriello won't coach forever

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Just because he's winning practically every game doesn't mean Lou Lamoriello wants to coach the rest of them.

Despite the Devils' improvement under his watch - they had a nine-game win streak snapped Sunday - the GM said yesterday that does he not intend to remain interim coach the remainder of the season. "That's not in my plans," he said.

With the Olympic break upcoming - the Devils are off from Feb.12-28 - it would appear Lamoriello has an ample window to name a coach. The GM is 11-6 in the interim role, aided greatly by Patrik Elias' return after recovering from hepatitis A.

The Devils, who are at the Islanders tonight, will play without Grant Marshall, whose neck was injured Sunday on a hit by the Darius Kasparaitis. (The Rangers defenseman will not be disciplined further by the league for the hit, which incurred an elbowing major and game misconduct.) Lamoriello said that Marshall, who broke his neck at age 17 after getting hit headfirst into the boards, was feeling better but would undergo tests.
