Seriously,

We did too much to get back into the playoff race to start sucking again. We match up well with all three teams we face in the next 4 days. 3 games in 4 days. Sheesh. Suggy would have been a good fill-in for a gassed player. Oh well.

Gotta start out hard and keep it going for THREE periods tonight rather than our customary 2.5 periods that we have been doing lately. The worst thing we could do would be to play conservative because we're thinking about 3 games in 4 days. One at a time, baby. I'm sure Lou will remind them. I KNOW Stevens would have reminded them.

Very very demanding.

Sometimes... other teams make adjustments because of what we're doing. And sometimes they're able to capitalize, esp. in today's NHL.

The difference is NOT folding if it happens. There's not going to be lockdown on every team every night when we get a lead. But it's not like we haven't kept the lockdown on some ... three shutouts in five games ring any bells?

Just keep playing like you have been, as a team. Crash the net and make the passes click a little better than in the early going against the Rangers and that's about all I have to say.

The players need to concentrate on tonight's game against the Islanders. I hope they don't look ahead to the Florida trip.

Tonight's Devils broadcast will be on FSN-NY 2 (http://www.msgnetwork.com/content_news.jsp?articleID=v0000msgn20051005T23055 3866&newsgroup=ap.sportsml.columnist.article&sports=baseball&team=other&league=mlb).

I wouldn't worry about it.
They don't do half the things that we do.
This is a focused team. They're always on the job at hand. Did you hear Rafalski after the second period at the Garden? He almost sounded robotic when asked how the Devils reacted after Marshall went down.

There's going to be a lot of jostling around. We're not gonna have nine-game win streaks every time.

As long as we play the way we've been playing, we'll wind up on the right end.

It's not a life or death game, but it's important in the sense that we want to stay away from a losing streak after a nice run. And I'm sure all of us prefer the winning to the losing!

A loss to the Rangers is never a good thing; but I'm not going to throw away 9 straight wins due to ONE loss.

I think the Devils will re-focus their efforts tonight and beat the Islanders a second time this month.

Perhaps in Albany. Today's Star Ledger noted he was sent back to the River Rats recently.

Sorry, I'm a slow typer today. Bates (I think) went around Albelin and cut across the crease from the left. Looked like Marty might have done something to his left leg/knee in the process. He keeps trying to put weight on the left leg. (I think I forgot to breathe while he was down on the ice.)

Edit: it was Asham who went around Albelin. And Kvasha stepped on Marty's skate.

Yeah, then Grier just dropped Kaspy in the middle of the ice. He injured Connolly's knee tho, which sucks from a Sabres fans POV. They have too many injuries already!

Im just glad Kozzy got a goal NOT in a shootout.

Alexander Mogilny is officially the most accomplished — and wealthiest — player to ever pull on an AHL jersey.

Mogilny was waived by the New Jersey Devils to make room for Patrick Elias under the salary cap earlier this month. He was assigned to Albany and after more than 15 years in the NHL, made his AHL debut with the River Rats last Friday night.

Mogilny had the most NHL goals (473) and the largest salary ($3.5 million) of any player in AHL history.

In his first game, he went end to end to score the game-winning goal 15 seconds into the third period as Albany defeated Rochester, 2-1.

“It was kind of weird lining up against him after watching him on TV since I was 5 or 6,” Amerks forward Clarke MacArthur told the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

We had three shutouts in five games after none all year and you were worried the streak was a fluke?

They have been playing solid, responsible hockey for a few weeks. They have not given me cause to worry about them as a unit since the calendar turned. All I ever wanted was to see them play like themselves again. It was a huge relief when they started to.

I was too busy entertaining a friend (via one weird Russo-Finnish movie) tonight, so I only caught bits and pieces of the game. A 4-0 win is an excellent sign of recovery after a loss and could be the start of The Streak Ver 1.1 Or Something Like That.

Seems the Devils were dominant all game long. Excellent. Time for some tough back-to-back away games in Florida. Go Devils!

I don't know, I thought the NHL outlawed the low stuff after the Tucker-Peca hit. Kasperminus definatly hit Connolly with his hip, but he hit Tim's knees.

That's what I have a problem with.

After what he did the Marshall, I hope someone crosschecks him in the face.

I was worried about what would happen with the streak over. I wasn't sure if they would they regress back to the way they looked in '05, or if they would continue playing like the Devils team we're used to seeing. Apparently, I needn't have worried.

Kasper's a jerk but if Connonlly didn't try to jump i don't think he what have hit him in the knees. It was a pretty clean hit - his hips were high not low. Sucks that Tim is hurt for that long. Shoot!

Someone should beat Kasper up for it though. I have no problem with hitting people like that but you should have to back it up with your fists once in awhile - that's what I don't like about the new NHL. Kasper gets to hide after hits like that. Early 90's forward he would have to fight.

I'm happy that there was no let down, and once the Devils went up 3-0, that there was no let up.
}:-)>
The only disappointment I had was that Janssen and Erskine did not have another chance to go. Though Chico said that Janssen tried to 'snooker' Erskine, I don't think it was the case.
Your opinion:
Was the Janssen ducking of Erskine because:

Janssen was trying to draw a penalty - (doubt it, IMO)
Janssen got called back to the bench by Lou - (likely)
Janssen wanted to go, but then the words 'Mike Danton' echoed through his head - (maybe, but most likely not)
Janssen was afraid to go with Erskine - (highly doubt it)
Erkine was afraid to go with Janssen - (see above)

I think the second option is most likely what happened. Janssen shot a look over at the bench like a kid who's been called home from play by his mom. (Awww maaaaa....) But being a rookie, and not wanting to see his ice time decreased, he got back into the game, rather than fulfill his pugilistic obligations. No matter, he and Erskine will have ample opportunity to renew hostilities in the future.
As far as Janssen being afraid to go with Erskine...I saw him play once in Albany and I don't think he's afraid to put his fists of rage to use against anyone.

It was a perfect hip-check and that's a lost art form in the game today. It was not a low hit. Unfortunately, Connolly jumped up at the last minute and was hurt on the knee. It's a contact sport and guys will get hurt from time to time. As for comparisons of Kaspers to Stevens, I would like to bring up the fact that Stevens has stated that he saved the big hits for the playoffs and wouldn't make the same hits during the regular season.

So true, but Kasper can't remember the last time his legs have skated in mid-April, so he is less inclined to wait. Besides, he's a first-class jackass, so he hits everything that moves . . . and takes himself out of position defensively. Brian Marchment is close to retiring, so it only makes sense that Kasper takes over the cheapest-player-on-the-ice award. Good for him.

By the way, I know that Kozlov scored last night, but how did he look playing wing with Parise on the second line? Did they seem to have some chemistry? I have been lobbying for the Devils to have a "Punish Line" as our 4th line, which meant Kozlov had to be traded or moved back to the second line. How did the 2nd and 4th lines look?

The 4th line had a pretty limited role, pretty much the same deal as the past month or so.

The 2nd line did create a few high quality scoring chances. Aside from Kozlov's goal, there was a few times Zach created some space for himself and his linemates with a few shifty moves. One time in particular there was a very nice tic tac toe play started by Brylin who drove to the net after dishing to Parise who dished to Kozlov who elected not to shoot and instead passed just away from Brylin's stick. Nearly an awesome goal.

They looked good defensively too.
