Kono and Halpern demoted

The Times reports this morning that the new 3rd line is
Pettinger-Gordon-Sutherby. That means that Konowalchuk and Halpern have been dropped to the 4th line and Peter Bondra has been moved back to work with Robert Lang. Kip Miller is back on the first line with Jagr and now Zubrus. Its unclear if Cassidy expects to match Sutherby and two rookies against Alfredsson and Hossa on Thursday, but its clear that Kono and Halpern won't be.
In my mind the problem with the Halpern line was trying to force offense by putting Bondra there and the fix is as simple as putting Grier back there, but Cassidy can't seem to remember that Kono-Halpern-Grier was his most consistant line last year and never played as well seperated in anyway as they did together.

it took him a full season to "remember" he had a tremendous power play scorer in Bondra.....so this should come as no surprise

again.....he has no eff'n clue......in way over his head....and should be removed right away

I could be wrong but i think cassidy is grasping at straws trying to figure something out...this season is already looking like a joke, it seems like we're one step away from a complete implosion both on a coaching and player level

I like how the "captain" is now a foruth line player...

Just get it over with and give it to Jagr...

Are you kidding me?? What type of message would that send to the other players?

Conversation between Cassidy and Mcphee:

Butch - Hey George, it's Butch. I was thinking, since I'm about to get ***** canned, I thought I would reward Jagr's whining and underachieving play, by making him the Captain. What do you think?

George - Sure, go for it. That way I have one more chunk of ammo to write on your pink slip. At the same time, why don't you scratch Bondra and ostrasize Kono and Halpern. That way we have a better chance at landing the Russian kid in the draft next season.

Why on earth don't they reunite the K-H-G line? Mike Grier should not be on a scoring line. He's a tempo setter.

I say:

Zubrus - Lang - Jagr
Miller - Gordon - Bondra
Kono - Halpern - Grier
Pettinger - Sutherby - Willsie

Throw in Peat and Semin occasionally. Or swap Semin for Miller.

Its not like when Kono haves it the team is any better off. Giving it to Jagr would send a bad message to teh other players but if it makes him play better and feel important then go for it. Kolzig is the real captian of the team and everyone knows that. Who wears the C hsant meant anything in a long time on this team.

Man, Bondra on the third line...that's beyond ridiculuous. I don't totally blame Cassidy though...this team is so poorly constructed there's not a lot he can do. Yes, he should go, but so should McPhee.

wow thats great team concept, give into a player who has shown to be more an individual then a team player...go ahead give jagr the C and see who plays for him

Does anyone remember at the end of the 2001-2002 season, when we didnt make the playoffs? Our most succesful and consistent line was Jagr, Metropolit, and Zubrus. They were on fire. Metro had 16 freakin assists in like 25 games. Also, Zubrus played very well too, and was expexted to break out last season (didnt quite make it though cause of training camp stuff).

Just hope ing that Zubrus and Jagr can click again with these new pairings.

The players voted Kono to be Captain. You turn around and hand that 'C' to Jagr, you'll have an absolute revolt on your hands, starting with Olie.

That might be but I think most of hte players see Kolzig as the captian anyways and would know that the c is just to make jagr happy.

Do you even understand the whole point of a being a captain...you just dont give a guy the C to make him happy...not only would you have a team revolt and there is no doubt you would have alot of long time caps fans disgusted...every team i've ever been a part of we played for each other, not just for one guy...but jagr has shown nothing short of wanting to play only for himself...he might say in the paper that isnt the case but his actions on the ice throughout his career has shown otherwise...jagr hasnt earned the right to wear the C in dc, and in some cases not even an A

Why all this talk about Jagr wearing the C........has he said he wants it? I get the feeling he doesnt.
