gmdevils 01-22-2006, 04:47 PM Does anybody know if he's sworn off the NHL forever now after the way he was treated when he was injured with the leafs? I don't remember the whole story, just that there were some hard feelings when he left. Then he bounced around for a bit, while struggling with injuries, and finally left the NHL for the Russian league where he's been for the past 3 seasons.
If he'd consider coming back to the NHL, I'd love to see him in a Devils uni. He's an absolute warrior on the ice, and would help replace some of the toughness we lost when Stevens retired. Think about a pairing of Rafalski and Yushkevich. I think that would be awesome. Just turned 34 in Nov, so would have a few good years left, and probably would like a chance at a Stanley Cup.
Probably just me dreaming, but if there is a chance of this scenario happening in the offseason, I hope that Lou looks into it.
Niedermayer21 01-23-2006, 10:53 PM Very interesting name. Good thinking!!! :D
If he has anything left, he could be an interesting addition, just for the end of the season and the playoffs.
Last I remembered, he had a bad knee.
I will do a little research and post something if I find anything.
Give'em Hell! 01-23-2006, 11:56 PM Dmitri is having a good year with Magnitogorsk 24 points this year and is arguably the best defenseman on the team as voted to the RSL all-star game as well. It seems he has recovered pretty well from his knee problems.
He would be a nice addition i think but Lou hates russians not named Brylin. i am of course exagerrating but it seems as though.
Big#D 01-24-2006, 09:59 AM Besides, I think I remeber that December 1 is the deadline for NHL teams to sign players from Europe to a contract. After that date, they are stuck with their European team.
I think that was the deal with Ovechkin in Washington. The Caps had to sign him or he would have been stuck in Russia for another year. Turns out that they signed him long before then though.

Which is why he should be in New Jersey on the Devils. JK.
I think we are fairly set at defense, guys -- assuming nobody gets injured. Besides, if somebody does go down, Brown is a decent fill-in.
Besides that, we are cap-strapped for next year. We need to re-sign Elias, and that is going to take a minimum of $4.5 million. We also need to do what we can to re-sign Gomez, and that could take another $3 million. Gionta is also due for a raise, so expect another $1.8 - 2.0 million for Gio. Albelin will most likely retire (although we've been saying that since Reagan was in office, so you never know), so that leaves Brown and Hale as our 3rd pairing. That ain't bad.
I wouldn't mind getting a rental defenseman or forward for the playoff run, but unless we are willing to part ways with a few players (cough, Kozlov, cough), we won't be able to re-sign them after this season.

I was gonna make a comment about how he scared little children at Meet the Panthers a few years back. He is a creepy guy.

I think December 1st is the last day for teams to sign RFAs who are holding out.
Not certain, but I think if Yushkevich is under contract overseas, and any NHL team signs him, then he'd be subject to passing through waivers. The Predators tried to bring Vladimir Orszagh back from Sweden in late December, but the Blues put a claim on him: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=ap-blues-orszagh&prov=ap&type=lgns
RussianProspects 01-24-2006, 10:02 PM Last I remember, the Capitals own his rights, or own compensation if he signs elsewhere. At least that was the case after the 2003 draft. I am not sure if this still holds in the new CBA. Since he would be a free agent signing if he is a free agent (he definitely qualifies with the age and experience and all), I don't believe he would need to go through waivers. His European contract would not be an issue if he has an NHL clause in it...
