Wait a second.
Elias was left off the team? Have they lost their minds?

The other teams may not have announced an actual taxi squad. Canada's taxi squad is not official to the IIHF, and any player who was added to the full Canadian 81 man roster submitted in the Fall could potentially be included if a player on the main 23 man roster is injured (although Hockey Canada will only pick out of Staal, Spezza or McCabe if he comes back). Canada simply named a taxi squad so that they could name a few more deserving players to the team (and thus reduce the headaches of trying to exclude Staal, Spezza and McCabe).

Elias wasn't playing yet when the team was made. If they named Elias to the team and Elias came out and took a crap with the Devils than even more people would be screaming.
Think people.
Leetch was on XM one day and said despite being bitter over not being selected and how he found out, if he was asked to join the team he would. Maybe it's for the better because he's missed most of the last few months.

I heard the opposite. That if there was an injury and Team USA wanted Leeth as the replacement he wouldnt be able to accept since he has now commited to a wedding

They don't need to be because there is nothing official. Canada "named" their taxi squad as a publicity stunt, nothing more.

Russia named 8 players of the "closest reserve" along with their roster:
Goaltenders:
Sokolov
Defencemen:
Vishnevski
Kondratiev
Forwards:
Taratukin
Brylin
Morozov
Korolyuk
Vorobiev
However, the taxi squad need not necessairly consist of these players. Morozov and Korolyuk both said they would not go to the Olympics in a role of a replacement player in a taxi squad. That leaves one winger to chose from; and quite honestly Zherdev or Antipov would make far better choices that Vorobiev.
In terms of centers, Zvinovjev's name has also been tossed around. On defence I am surprised Tverdovsky, Zyuzin, Kulyash, and Kalinin did not even make the the reserve list while Kondratiev did... and I would rather take any one of those or even Proshkin or Vyshedkevich instead of him.
Then again I really shouldnt be surprised as guys like Kvasha and Slava Kozlov did not even make the perliminary list, and Samsonov didnt make the reserve either. Frankly, Russia needs Federov as well, I dunno if he was cut or actually wanted to rest up.
There are already 2 changes that are going to happen to Russia's roster. A center to replace Zhmanov and a goalie to replace Khabibulin.

Here is one interesting article about taxi squads and rules. Taxi players aren't allowed to be situated in the Olympic village :shakehead

I would imagine Ryan Miller is on USA's 'Taxi' squad.
