are there any Ukie prospects coming up for this years draft?
How about But? is he still around?
Is Varlamov officially out of the NHL?
Is Minkhov officially a bust? :(
How about Babchuck, he's good in NHL2k6, but how is he doing this year?
- Anton But is playing in Russia and not interested in playing for Ukraine as he has already played for Russia in the past.
- Sergei Varlamov is playing in Sibir Novosibirsk, in Russia and he has developed well into a Ukrainian national team player. As for the returning to the NHL, I would say those chances are very slim.
- If your talking about Alexei Mikhnov, he's not our problem. However Andrei Mikhnov will be making his Ukrainian debut these World Championships. He's currently playing in Russia with Lada Togliatti.
- Anton Babchuk is another case of Ukrainians playing for Russia. But personally I think his stock has taken a hit, he was traded earlier this year so that shows that Chicago didn't really have the confidence in him.
As for prospects and up and coming players, I've kept my eye open on some future national team players. Roman Blahoy and Pavel Borisenko who are both currently playing in Belarus. However the most popular Ukrainian prospect is currently playing in Canada with the Shawinigan Cataractes, his name is Egor Egorov. This guy can skate, and if he could apply that to his hockey skills, Egor could be a key player for the Ukrainians in the future.

I wouldn't base my opinion on what Chicago does, it's not a big secret what a mess that organization is. Personally, I'm glad that Anton is outta there.

Viktor Andruschenko ('86), Alex Shevchenko ('84) and Vladimir Aleksyuk ('87) are some notable prospects also.
Shevchenko has to begin making more progress, making a name for himself with Sokol would be a good start,
