I didn't know if this belongs in the Hockey History or Hockey Business:
I have found that in many hockey catalogues, it is very difficult to find Whaler items, yet easy to find Winnipeg, Quebec, and even items from other defunct teams like the Rockies and Seals. Is there some injunction that the Whalers have that keeps places like River City Sports from having Whaler items? I have found the Whalers to be quite a popular team, at least nostalgically, so I wondered if there was some historical event that keeps there paraphenalia from being sold.

its been covered in a couple of whaler threads, but its always a good question. the whalers logo is still owned by the city of hartford. it was part of the deal that finally allowed karmanos to pull out of his hartford deal early. he had to pay 20 million to hartford for being a liar, and was required to leave the logo at the door on the way out (not that he wouldve wanted it). thats why not only are there no such thing as authentic vintage whaler jerseys for sale (those ak ones on ebay are fakes), the whaler jerseys cant be unlocked in any video game. hartford wont sell it off, most extinct nhl teams logos must just be owned to the nhl who im sure make deals with the people who use them now. i kinda like it as a whaler guy - its one thing they couldnt take away....though it would be nice to be schoolin fools on my xbox with the canes wearin the whale tail. actually, there was one dreamcast game that had the jerseys - though it must not have been legally.
anyways, someone else may have a more accurate version of it - but thats what i know.

Thanks for the answer. That is very helpful. I wish the logo were more readily available, cause I'd love to have a Whalers hat. As it is, I only have an ancient replica jersey that is way too small and an old puck and pennant.

the ak jerseys there are fakes. make sure you get either ccm or starter, the only people who made legit jerseys. theres a bumch of people making cash selling fake crap to whaler collectors.
