DaveG 12-28-2005, 08:10 AM The United State first real test in the tournament. I say 5-2 US
go kim johnsson 514 12-28-2005, 08:28 AM 10-1 Usa
This isn't Norway.
psycho_dad 12-28-2005, 08:34 AM This isn't Norway.
Let them think this is another 10-1....they are in for a surprise :D
Edit: Removed sentence. No harm really, but generalisations rarely lead to good things. Especially in potentially heated discussions as this one.
Pepper 12-28-2005, 08:36 AM 4-1 Usa
gobolt7 12-28-2005, 08:43 AM I think Ramo is going to surprise some people tonight. ;)
Jonathan. 12-28-2005, 09:07 AM 5-3 USA. Ramo looks amazing but gets left out to dry.
Tuggy 12-28-2005, 09:08 AM 7-2 Usa.
Peter25 12-28-2005, 09:25 AM I can't believe Finland has a chance in this game. But its not going to be a blow out. Maybe something like 5-2 or 4-2 for USA.
Diaboli 12-28-2005, 09:26 AM Hard to say, 'cos it depends on how we can get the team back up. I'd say 5-2 to the US, but of course hoping for better
Tritsche 12-28-2005, 09:26 AM 7:2 Usa...
Stidi 12-28-2005, 09:44 AM 6-2 Usa. The best Usa u20 team against a fairly average Finnish team. The americans have a sick blueline and very deep forward corp. My heart is with Finland and ill be rooting for them but if i had to bet , 6-2 would be a very rational one.
Sotnos 12-28-2005, 09:56 AM I think Ramo is going to surprise some people tonight. ;)
I hope he's in net, especially since I think this is being shown on CI tomorrow.
SIBIR 12-28-2005, 10:01 AM 4-3 Finland
Shoalzie 12-28-2005, 10:14 AM 7-3, Team USA...Kessel with a 4-point game.
Bloggins 12-28-2005, 11:24 AM 3-2 Finland :D
edd1e 12-28-2005, 11:30 AM i think Finland is going to play better than against Canada, atleast i hope so :)
Rabid Ranger 12-28-2005, 11:35 AM A tougher test than Norway for sure, but I still see the U.S. prevailing. I'll go 6-3 U.S. Three keys for the U.S:
1) Stay disciplined
2) Keep Cory Schneider focused
3) Exploit PP opportunities
Chinaski* 12-28-2005, 11:38 AM 3-2 Finland
An Ape called Yoko 12-28-2005, 11:41 AM 5-2 USA.
The score will be 2-2 after two periods, and then Kessel starts rocking. :teach:
RangerBoy 12-28-2005, 12:50 PM This game will be shown in the U.S. on Center Ice Thursday at 1pm
Newfie John 12-28-2005, 01:22 PM Is Ramo starting for sure? Kind of unfair to take out Rask after being hung out to dry against Canada, and Rask was looking real good in the 3rd period of that game.
Bloggins 12-28-2005, 01:39 PM :) 7-1
Yikes! I can see the Finns taking this game, but not by 7-1 :D
edd1e 12-28-2005, 01:40 PM i've been waiting to see Kessel play and Perttu is going to score in this game!
I expect at least a 5 goal spread for the States in this game too.Finland is of course much tougher then Norway but they showed some areas that can't help but be a concern, especially with an offensively loaded team like the Americans. The Finns don't have the most effective or talented d-men at all and that does'nt bode well against the team they'll face at all. They really gave up against Canada the other night when they went down 2-0................took the life right out of them. They will need to up their intensity and commitment to make a game with the U.S today. I do expect a win by about 4-5 goals for the americans today. But i'm willing to have Finland come out with their best effort and surprise me though.Still, even if that happens.................i don't think it could be enough for them to actually beat the States today
Hockeyfan02 12-28-2005, 02:06 PM Is Ramo starting for sure? Kind of unfair to take out Rask after being hung out to dry against Canada, and Rask was looking real good in the 3rd period of that game.
Ramo and Rask were 1a/1b heading in to the tournament and from what I've read on this board Rask looked shaky in net and didn't have any rebound control. I'm not sure if it's official Ramo is starting, but he deserves a shot after Rask was subpar against Canada.

sammyp 12-28-2005, 02:37 PM Is this part of a free preview on Center Ice or does it come with the subscription?
illone84 12-28-2005, 02:49 PM Is there anywhere online that I can see this game?
Any other channels in canada that will be airing this game?
I noticed that tsn is re-playing the game at 1pmET tomorrow.
Anyhelp would be appreciated!
Thanks
Hockeycanada* 12-28-2005, 02:58 PM Who is starting for Finland?
If Rask, 8-3 US victory.
If Ramo, 4-3 Finland.
psycho_dad 12-28-2005, 02:58 PM I said before the games that Rämö will surprise a lot of people and I am hoping today he starts doing so. Keeping this game even moderately close would be good. But if we get some offense, Finland can win this game too.
3-2 for Finland.

im not saying finland cant win. but there is NO way you hold us to 2 goals. you are gonna have to score 5+ to beat the americans. and i dont see that happening. im hoping for a good game though, as the players need to play in a competitive game before they play a really good team later on. it wont be good if their first difficult situation is against a team like canada
X-SHARKIE 12-28-2005, 03:19 PM Wed, December 28th -- for some reason I can't find the channel for it on DirecTV Center Ice, what am i doing wrong?
Dont' worry it will show up. I have the same issue, I scroll to see when its on the next day and there is not mention of it.
Then game time strikes and it's on.
Also turn to any channel of Center Ice tomorow and it will have it their main list.
But for some reason on the actual channel it doesn't have any mention of the game.
So it will be on tomorow for sure, but it's not on the listing for the day ahead.
canucksfan 12-28-2005, 03:21 PM 7-3 Usa
Lessy 12-28-2005, 03:42 PM 6-3 Usa
El_Scoobo 12-28-2005, 03:56 PM 7-3 US. The US is loaded and Finland just can't match. I would think that Ramo is going to get the start but it still won't get it done.
jfont 12-28-2005, 04:14 PM Go USA!!!
btw, how's tukonen doing?
knight44 12-28-2005, 04:21 PM 7-2
Kessel with 2 goals 3 assists
Bourque 2 goals 2 assists
Schremp 3 goals
E Johnson 4 assists
Rask or Ramo pulled in the 2nd
A fairly even game, but I doubt Finland has the depth this year to win .. 4-1 or 5-2 USA. Especially the D sucks this year. But those of you expecting a rout are going to be very suprised. Korpikoski and Lindgren score for Finland.
Dr Quincy 12-28-2005, 04:37 PM Wed, December 28th -- for some reason I can't find the channel for it on DirecTV Center Ice, what am i doing wrong?
Try channel 540. That's what it is on on Dish Network and I think the CI channel numbers are the same on both.

VladNYC 12-28-2005, 05:17 PM What's with Finland having a russian guy on their team? Leo Komarov i think is his name. Didn't he get kick out of the game last time? Sounds like an exciting guy. Too bad i haven't seen him play yet.
Game will depend on if the USA can capitalize on the many Penalties this game will have. I am rooting for Finland but my guess is 4:2 USA.

Actually Leo Komarov is orginally Estonian I think.. Anyway he plays a typically Finnish game; feisty, solid defensively, good wheels and medoicre hands.
Who is starting for Finland?
If Rask, 8-3 US victory.
If Ramo, 4-3 Finland.
USA 8 - Finland 3
Ramo starts in goal and lets in 6 goals in the 1st 2 periods ..Rask plays the 3rd after the goalie change
AnThGrt 12-28-2005, 06:18 PM btw, how's tukonen doing?
Can anyone answer this?
hockeydad15 12-28-2005, 06:39 PM 7-2
Kessel with 2 goals 3 assists
Bourque 2 goals 2 assists
Schremp 3 goals
E Johnson 4 assists
Rask or Ramo pulled in the 2nd I just hope Schremp is played like he should be!!! By far the best player out there. Give him half the ice time Kessel and Bourque and see what happens, as far as that goes, give ME half their ice time and i'll score 5goals. Quit the POLITICS!!!!!!!!
Kinbote 12-28-2005, 06:42 PM 7-0 USA
This is the best US junior team I've seen and I'll be cheering for them... at least untill the final game. ;)
Zetterberg4Captain* 12-28-2005, 07:52 PM 4-1 USA. Ramo plays outstanding as USA outshoots Finland 45-25. USA is to highpowered for Finland to stop and I think this will be another pretty easy game for the US of A.
HockeyCanada.ca says in the game preview that Rask will most likely be in net. :dunno:

i've come not to trust them that much. They seem to be slow and sloppy on that website getting things up.I don't know who is in control and keeps care of the site but.............i'm underwhelmed so far.
DevilFisch 12-28-2005, 08:33 PM I hope the USA beats Finland. With my minimal knowledge, I will guess a 4-2 victory.
Incidentally, I don't think the link to the IIHF boxscore/update page for the game works? I keep checking and refreshing it, but all I get is HTML code.
St.Louis sports fan 12-28-2005, 08:35 PM Any chance Bobby Ryan will see more icetime tonight? I think at some point he will have to be a factor. I just don't get a 2nd overall pick and top 3 OHL scorer as the 13th forward. Is he hurt or does Kyle think he has 12 better forwards?

No, it's just the whole thing about Ryan going to play in the OHL.
I guess it's a controversy because he's from NJ, but the guy is too good to be sitting on the bench in a tournament showcasing young talent.

You know full well what would happen if Switzerland started pretending they were the 1984 Edmonton Oilers; they'd get the crap kicked out of them.
Expect undermanned teams to trap. If you are noticeably better than a team, you should beat them most of the time, regardless of what style they play.
Evil Homer 12-28-2005, 11:41 PM Who is starting for Finland?

I agree its just a very very boring style of hockey to watch. But I guess if the team has to play the trap so be it :)
FiNsKa 12-28-2005, 11:56 PM TSN was originally supposed to show this game at 11pm tonight according to the TV guide, but looks like they opted instead to show the Nashville Predators against the Vancouver Canucks.... BS I say. I would rather see the WJC in Toronto than a Canucks game..:shakehead
Almost time to get the show started :D

Where's that Gagne dude now?

Bunch of BS on both sides if you ask me. Too harsh on both teams.
Calling on the US like mad now.
Finland like mad earlier.

It's just like the Canada and Switzerland game. They call too many damn pentalies and it ruins the flow of the game. Is it that same Russian that you guys had against Norway?

I'm pretty sure this is the under-20 tournament. As in...also under 21. ;)
IIHF rules suck let these guys play the Canada game was the same way :shakehead
McDonald19 12-29-2005, 01:21 AM Uhhhh, no he's not the 2nd most talented player on the team.
He's less talented than both of the Johnsons and Kessel.
That's very much up for debate. Kessel was the player I was talking about as most talented. The Johnson's being more talented than Ryan is a tough comparison considering the Johnson's are D-men.
For now let's just say Ryan is the second most talented forward on the team.

Schremp could buy them all a beer. He is 19, which is the drinking age in Canada (where the tournament is being held).

Are u kidding me I really doubt that.

2nd most talented forward doesn't really help if he's playing like crap. Natural talent means a lot, but not with the way he's been playing outside his goal.

FearTheFlyers 12-29-2005, 01:27 AM Bobby Ryan makes up for his **** play.

Plkay him more and they'd be up by more than one against a mediocre team.

Hahahahaha, okay.
I'm a big Ryan fan since he's from New Jersey and so am I. That's huge to me to see another New Jersian in the NHL outside of Mara and Dowd.
Way to assume and make yourself look reallllll smart.
Jonathan. 12-29-2005, 01:33 AM People say he sucks because of one bad play, and one bad game. If Kessel gives the puck away and the Fins score, will everyone say Kessel sucks?
Well, he DOES suck tonight. I wasn't saying in general.
Randall Graves* 12-29-2005, 01:36 AM Well, he DOES suck tonight. I wasn't saying in general.
It's not just him, it seems like as a group they are off tonight.
Rabid Ranger 12-29-2005, 01:38 AM Finland giving the U.S. all they can handle tonight. Not surprised, as they work very hard and are getting good goaltending. U.S. not capitalizing on all their chances either. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the U.S. dressing room and hear what Walt Kyle has to say. The U.S. is better than this. Full marks to the Finns though.
Pepper 12-29-2005, 01:38 AM This is what you get when a swedish ref is doing a game with Finland playing, 2 of the US goals are direct results of EXTREMELY weak calls, former finnish U20 coach is commenting the game and even he (extremely reserved guy) basicly said that this ref is brutal.
EDIT: And another penalty, my god, this ref is doing his best to hand the game to USA!
Jonathan. 12-29-2005, 01:39 AM Wheeler!!!
Ryan is starting to heat up. Good for him. He NEEDS to play like a #2 draft pick.

US calls are just as brutal. What's your point?
Rabid Ranger 12-29-2005, 01:42 AM Interesting. Two of the bigger pariahs so far (Ryan & Wheeler) have been key contributors tonight. Schremp doing some nice work with those two players.
Jonathan. 12-29-2005, 01:43 AM Schremp is fantastic.

Panopticon 12-29-2005, 01:44 AM US calls are just as brutal. What's your point?
Are they? A Finn got called for holding the stick when the US kid was hooking him. :shakehead
And Seitsonen didn't even touch the US kid when he got called for tripping.
In all US calls there's been at least some visible reason behind them...
I hope to god the refs let the US and Canada play some good hockey. But that might be too much too ask!

All Wheeler did was check someone and he got called.
There are brutal calls on both sides.
Pepper 12-29-2005, 01:47 AM US calls are just as brutal. What's your point?
Hell they are, the 1st period the ref missed several clear US penalties while giving phantom penalties to Finland.
2nd period has been more even, now the calls are better but still the reffing is far from consistant.

Hahaha, okay. So the Jack Johnson "penalty" 22 seconds in was some amazing call? Seriously, the penalties have sucked for both sides. Try and realize that.
psycho_dad 12-29-2005, 01:50 AM lol@canadians cheering for the fins.
the johnsons are spending too much time in the box tonight.
They were neutral at first, but after the ref started to decide the game for the US (when finland went up 2-0 and the garbage calls started), they started booing and cheering for the finns. Especially after that holding the stick call that got the U.S a 5 on 3 pp.
Good reactions by canadian audience, the first period reffing was one of the worst, most one sided performances I have seen in years. Other than that, a nice tight game. If the ref would let the teams decide this themselves, it would be a close call.
Jonathan. 12-29-2005, 01:51 AM I love everyone comming in and saying that the US is only winning because of the refs.
Ridiculous.
Absolutely ridiculous.
jaydub 12-29-2005, 01:51 AM Okay, we get it the only reason Finland is losing is because of the refs. :shakehead
