Devilsfanatic 12-15-2005, 11:09 PM Im sick of this guy, we're paying him 4.2 million for sucking against big forwards, and absolutely stinking up the PP, and it's not even been for this dry run, he's been horrid all year, his little wrister from the point, that used to be deflectable, is down right awful, it gets blocked everytime. I say trade him to some poor sap. Im just extremely frustrated with him, to think, he's making Foote money, egads.
Colin Whites Eye 12-15-2005, 11:48 PM we cant just trade every player that everyone thinks is playing badly, its not that easy....

Generally, Im okay with the team, I don't hassle guys like Malakhov and McGillis, but Raf has just bothered me this year, his stick breaks, and he can't get a shot at net, his passes are awful, his breakouts suck, this is his type of NHL, he just needs a #1 guy to make him effective, he's really a #2 or 3 defensman. Im disappointed with him more so than mad at him.

Although I'm not a fan of the Devils (I watched quite a bit last year for Elias and Martin), I can pretty much say that you've hit the nail square on the head there.
You're looking at a guy that went from the 3rd best defenceman on the team to the "number 1" guy in the span of just under a year. Rafalski is not a guy that you want being the go-to, and probably isn't very comfortable in that position. He's certainly effective as a number 2, but needs a sizeable partner to be truly effective in his role. IMO, Rafalski/Martin was probably the worst choice for a top pairing possible with the current edition of the Devils. Not that I dislike either of them, but it just doesn't make sense to put them together, no matter how good positionally they are.

The problem is he's making No.1 Money.
sundstrom32* 12-16-2005, 04:33 PM you can't fault rafalski for his big contract; if neids signed he was gone; he was the best offensive defensman available at the time; plus he knew the devils system and if the devils did not over pay him he would be elswhere. and like him or not you can't have a team w/ no legit offensive defensman; in addition he is our only right handed shot on d
he is valuable to devils even though he is being overpaid
the bottom line is neidermayer really screwed this team over and the results are going to hurt this team for a few years. he made the devils wait until the last minute; and when he did not sign Lou essentially way overpaid for rafalski/malakov/ and mcgillis, which in turn cost us friesen and undoubtedly one or two more players when elias returns.

F niedermayer, thanks for what he did when he was here, but he screwed us leaving.
For 4.2, that's ELITE dman or even offensive upgrade. I hope he gets his s together along with the rest of those mooks.
BTW
Carol your sons together will never win a cup.

Rafalski hasnt played his best yet......I think that he has too much pressure to put on his shoulder, with a him being the Vet on the defense, and havingb to fill Stevens and Nieds skates.......He will be fine i think he has played well against other teams best players, just fine.........I'm tired of hearing Oh Rafalski stinks get rid of him, or malakhov stinks, or mcgillis.......Danny has played well since being put back in the lineup, he actually is hitting, Malakhov isnt great but he actually has been better lately, he went from a minus-15 which is now down too like minus 7 i think, and Matvichuck hasnt played badly, as of late, why wont Larry use him on the PP since its struggling he has a cannon......Or so ive seen while at all the games........Dont worry we will sneak into the playoffs and do some damage, no one wants the Devs in the playoffs!

Okay....well, we need him to contribute offensively, and he hasn't, his point shots are always blocked, and he can't handle big forwards, he's a #2 d-man, he needs a big guy to make him effective. I suggest pairing McGillis with Rafalski, White with Martin, and Matvichuk with Malakhov.
zetterberg40 12-17-2005, 01:29 AM raf is having a hard transition, give him some time, another defensemen who could be potentially numebr 1 to take the thing off his shoulders and he will fourish... not to mention its not like marty b is being that much better... on and off... whatev tho
