Devils Game Notes (http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/theteam/previews/gp12132005.php)
Hockey_Nut99 12-13-2005, 04:51 PM Not much action here huh...This game will be interesting. I hope Conklin doesn't play like he has thus far this season. Soft goals every game.
devsfan8 12-13-2005, 05:04 PM It does not matter if Conklin is in net. Devils always have issues against opposing teams most unrelaible or backup goalies. Suave of Calgary this year. Washington threw some goalie who has never played and he was strong against us. this has been a trend even before this year...Mike Fountain, Jason Mazzati, etc.
If the Devils are going to win tonight they need a strong effor from Marty and they need to rely on their special teams to play well.

I remember that night Mike Fountain shut us out :shakehead ....The Devils are a pretty fragile team right now. They really need this one tonight to get some confidence going. Maybe that team meeting will help get the guys on the same page.....
Tao Jones 12-13-2005, 06:41 PM They scattered pretty quickly after the meeting, guess they have shopping to do? :dunno:
edit: more likely avoiding the nosy press
The Omen* 12-13-2005, 07:27 PM This team will run circles around us and the fact that our D does not check will make it more fun to watch :sarcasm: . 4-2 Oilers.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 07:31 PM Sean Brown is apparently the Devs healthy scratch on D...McGillis back into game rotation.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 07:36 PM Sean Brown is apparently the Devs healthy scratch on D...McGillis back into game rotation.
If that is the case I just don't get Larry Robinson's decision making, Brown deserves to be in the lineup
Larry is on thin ice in my opinion
blueliner 12-13-2005, 07:43 PM maybe they're showcasing McGillis for potential suitors?
agreed about Big Bird, as with at least half this team right now...keep wondering when a consequential move might be made.

I have heard that the Oilers may be interested in McGillis, could be "showcasing".
The Omen* 12-13-2005, 07:52 PM I have heard that the Oilers may be interested in McGillis, could be "showcasing".
Yeup I heard we were trying to get a set of hockey sticks for Malacrap but we were asking for too much.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 07:53 PM Marc Andre Beregeron whistled for delay of game after popping the puck over the glass...Devs PP, lets see if they can generate a shot on net.
Hang on...Ryan Smyth just whistled...5 on 3 for NJ.
devils1983 12-13-2005, 07:57 PM Just read that Sergei Federov has pulled his name from the Russian olympic hockey team. Not that it's a big deal, just thought people would like to know.
1-0 Devils
blueliner 12-13-2005, 07:58 PM MATVICHUK!...first goal as a Dev...Almo and Mad-dog with the helpers.
And another PP for the Devs...Todd Harvey whistled...Well if practice makes perfect for the PP, this might be the game for it.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 08:05 PM Madden called for interference...Oilers get their first PP of the night.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 08:08 PM Ryan Smyth whistled for goalie interference during the Oilers PP...
I know Horcoff is having a decent year with the puck, but I wonder how much PP time he, Stoll and Pisani typically get...they're out there now.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 08:18 PM Great first period although only 3 or 4 shifts for this line; they brought some energy.
I like tallacksons hands; he is a good passer and is CALM w/ the puck; he makes solid passes and gets open; parise showed good speed
hopefully there will not be too many penalties and these guys can get some ice time.

I have to ask, what the heck is a Devils fan doing in Australia?
blueliner 12-13-2005, 08:26 PM I have to ask, what the heck is a Devils fan doing in Australia?
why, the same thing you're doing, following the game :)
Sherry Ross interviewed by Randy on the Devs feed...When asked about the current state of the team she basically echoed what many people have been repeating ad nauseum on this board...eg: Poorly considered, underachieving signings leaving the team hamstrung to make further moves, lack of leadership, Mogilny on a checking line, etc...I really enjoyed her annual Scouting Guides, pity she recently stopped publishing them them after about a dozen years.
Also poo-poo'ed the value of the recently held deep and meaningful team meeting...
ratsgirl 12-13-2005, 08:41 PM blah.
devils1983 12-13-2005, 08:42 PM It's funny, just 10 seconds before the Oilers scored, I looked at my wife and said "the Oilers are gonna score here", sure enough they did.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 08:43 PM ah jeez...an attempted pass from that big dope Cross deflects off a Devil and right into the Devils net...1-1 game just like that, with NJ's momentum looking all but squashed.
Brooklyndevil 12-13-2005, 08:45 PM This new NHL has become a real *****cat league. Terrible calls on Madden and McGills.

Meow!!! :joker:
haakon84 12-13-2005, 08:49 PM This new NHL has become a real *****cat league. Terrible calls on Madden and McGills.
Its funny how the other team can gang **** brodeur and not get called on it but when madden lovetaps reasoner its an automatic 2.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 08:53 PM This new NHL has become a real *****cat league. Terrible calls on Madden and McGills.
yeah they almost got it right with all rules; they need to revisit some rules.
the point was to stop the holding and grabbing and opening up play, but they are calling a lot of penalties that are simply good defensive, aggressive hockey.
haakon84 12-13-2005, 08:55 PM brodeur's positioning is the best i've seen it this season. he looks like he is returning to his old self.
A_Mack17 12-13-2005, 08:56 PM I have to ask, what the heck is a Devils fan doing in Australia?
Theres a few of us!
haakon84 12-13-2005, 08:58 PM the devils need to hire gordon bombay and have him run the drill where the team passes eggs back and forth.
haakon84 12-13-2005, 09:00 PM wow what a sweet move by kozlov.
blueliner 12-13-2005, 09:01 PM the devils need to hire gordon bombay and have him run the drill where the team passes eggs back and forth.
If they don't score a man-advantage goal soon, it's probably only a matter of time before Larry dusts off the 'flying V'.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 09:01 PM Effort is there tonight; we just need to bury some chances to state the obvious; when o when is elias coming back
I always hated this about the devils; always keeping their fans in the dark
blueliner 12-13-2005, 09:07 PM I always hated this about the devils; always keeping their fans in the dark
agreed it's frustrating not knowing more about Elias' status, particularly when the team is dying in his absence, but that's the way Lou's always worked I suppose...In times gone by he's routinely lauded, after the fact, for his typical 'out of left-field' moves that nobody contemplates, let alone anticipates...his secrecy is one of his trademarks.
MattNJD 12-13-2005, 09:10 PM I remember that night Mike Fountain shut us out :shakehead ....
I remember that game too. It was his NHL debut and he almost scored a goal shooting at an empty net.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 09:22 PM is our excuse the term "vaginal" defense going to face wash someone tonight; I cant stand these guys not rought some oilers up in front
haakon84 12-13-2005, 09:24 PM is our excuse the term "vaginal" defense going to face wash someone tonight; I cant stand these guys not rought some oilers up in front
well after the call on madden i could understand why the defense would be timid to be aggressive against oilers pounding brodeur.
haakon84 12-13-2005, 09:27 PM that was horrible. mogilny just tapped the puck to the other team (don't know what he was trying to do there). martin trys to hit a grand slam on the insuing dump in, misses, murrow pick it up and shoves martin off him and now they take a penalty.
lapses in decisiveness and discipline is what is killing the devils. not too mention bad bounces and tough breaks.
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 09:53 PM I am a broken record but this 1-2-2 system he plays is god awful. He does not let his d pinch, he never lets a third forward forecheck he wants it 2 on 3 going back all the time; it's ridiculous
his system is terrible on top of the fact that his line combos are terrible on top of the fact that his team gets up for about half it's games
he is the first problem to be solved with this club
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 09:56 PM need these two points lets go!
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 10:01 PM shoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ot the puck mogilny!
A_Mack17 12-13-2005, 10:02 PM why cant we seem to score??
sundstrom32* 12-13-2005, 10:04 PM gio/koz/ parise for shootout lets see it.
marty you better beat conklin
ratsgirl 12-13-2005, 10:04 PM gah, another shootout. ugh.
haakon84 12-13-2005, 10:08 PM brodeur's best game of the season, deserved a shutout.
A_Mack17 12-13-2005, 10:08 PM woohoo kozlov and gionta! we win! finally!
dkball7 12-13-2005, 10:09 PM What a move by Kozzy. And Gio finally got that damn backhander down :)
Ronnie Bass 12-13-2005, 10:10 PM gah, another shootout. ugh.
Me too. But we got the win so I'll live.
I saw the shootout and Kozlov had Conklin so beat on that first SO goal I was laughing.
Both shootout goals were nice.
Devilsfanatic 12-13-2005, 10:14 PM Kozlov has the sickest moves, they're not overly flashy, but his forehand to backhand is crazy, the way he shifts about.
TaiMaiShu 12-13-2005, 10:15 PM brodeur's best game of the season, deserved a shutout.
he couldnt buy a shootout this year with our D. he should have at least 2 from the games ive seen
joeskow 12-13-2005, 10:18 PM finally a win (SO). I still don't think they played well 2nite. good D but the offense is no where to be found. Marty's best game so far
Devilsfanatic 12-13-2005, 10:29 PM Can we give it up for Dan McGillis? The guy played a solid game tonight, hopefully the bashers will lay off a bit.
sundstrom32* 12-14-2005, 12:04 AM Can we give it up for Dan McGillis? The guy played a solid game tonight, hopefully the bashers will lay off a bit.
yes i thought he was solid; but he needs to play more to gain confidence
Devilsfanatic 12-14-2005, 12:09 AM yes i thought he was solid; but he needs to play more to gain confidence
we were 7-4 with him in the lineup when we turned it on, and then 0-4......McGillis isn't the problem.
joeskow 12-14-2005, 12:34 AM yes McGillis had a good game 2nite, but the Devs need some offensive Dmen. when you only give up a goal or 2 a game those should be wins (in any style NHL).
Cerebral 12-14-2005, 01:30 AM Can we give it up for Dan McGillis? The guy played a solid game tonight, hopefully the bashers will lay off a bit.
I thought he had an awesome game for you guys. He had a couple really nice hits and really seemed to be active in the play for a guy that's been stuck in the press box for a while. Hopefully he'll get dealt to the Oilers when Elias returns... :D
Devilsfanatic 12-14-2005, 08:47 AM I thought he had an awesome game for you guys. He had a couple really nice hits and really seemed to be active in the play for a guy that's been stuck in the press box for a while. Hopefully he'll get dealt to the Oilers when Elias returns... :D
No.....take Malakhov :p: I'll even buy you dinner.
Heavy Fuel 12-14-2005, 12:38 PM Only caught the third period last night but it looked like a decent game. The NJ PP wasn't as good as it should be, and we Edmonton fans know a bad PP when we see it.
I heard some grumblings about Marty being not up to his usual standards but he looked pretty sharp last night. Nothing like a game against the Oil to make a goalie look good. Those two shoot out goals were pretty sweet as well.
sundstrom32* 12-14-2005, 03:40 PM we were 7-4 with him in the lineup when we turned it on, and then 0-4......McGillis isn't the problem.
Then it is a coaching problem for keeping him out of the lineup- I actually think aside from the first 10 games he has been pretty good.
I would expect more from robinson on the lineup he puts in.
