Question(s) about Elias

1) If Patrik Elias is in game shape would the Devils give him a small conditioning assignment in Albany for like a week or would they activate him from the IR and throw him right into the Devils lineup? He is our best forward and a top 3 Winger. They will not keep him out longer then necessary and delay a return for the right deal to lower the cap and make room for him. When he is ready he will play. But is it possible he could see some time in Albany before he is back on the Devils roster?

Have not heard any mention of this.

2) We have all thrown around the idea of Elias being assigned Captain as an incentive to sign long term. Can't say he does not deserve it either. I know we have endlessly discussed trade rumors and Sykora. Elias loved playing with Sykora. Petr Sykora will be dealt. It is immenent. A lot of people think we will not see him back in a Devils jersey ever again. He was soft in his last stint. His softness is not an issue now. He needs another change of scenery and we saw how dominant he played with Elias. What other reasons could there be that we would not trade $3 million for his $3 million to get him back in NJ to play with Elias and add a little more spark to the offense. Can it reallly hurt with the teams struggles this year?

I really have to agree with you (which is why I started the post) Yes there are other things that need to be addressed more. But one thing that can actually improve the team this year is by getting rid of players that are not doing anything. they are a waste of a roster spot. Sykora is still young and likes playing with his ex roommate in Elias. It could provide an instant spark. Elias might come out with a bang and really make an impact with a lot of incentive. He does have natural talent but with the team needing a change and the fact they played so well together as one of the top lines in the league I do not see any reasons why it cannot be atleasr pursued.
