What is expected of this guy? Will he take over for Brodeur? Does anyone no where and how he is doing this year? To be honest I lost track of the kid and am wondering how he is doing. Any info would be great.

Been in albany for the past few years; I think he has been solid but nothing great, hopefully someone who has seen him play a few times can answer your question

Personally, I think his play has been very disapointing this season. I started a thread a week or so ago concerning his inferiority to Frank Doyle's play. I've seen him play several times, and each time he's played sub-par.
I don't think he needs more time to develope though. I think he needs some actual NHL experience, which he won't get with the Devils. He has talent, but it's going to waste with Brodeur playing 70 some odd games a season and Ari having no chance to play with Clemmenson as Marty's backup.
I think he should be traded to a team in need of a decent backup, like the Penguins, so he can move on with his career. His stats are abismal, and he is very inconsistent. He should be traded while he's still worth something.

I also have to think that Ari Ahonen will be the swing man or throw in on any deal this year that would involve the Devils getting a player back that they want. He is still a young goalie and there is really no future for him in the Devils organization other then a platoon to majority starter on Albany. The Devils have built up enough depth at goalie with Frazee, Disher and Doyle. Teams in need of a backup goalie and somebody on the Devils roster could bite. He is expendable IMO.

Ahonen is anything but heir apparent to marty. he's like that book, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times". he has no trade value, and he's had ample ooportunity (albeit with schnizzle defense) to shine. he's finished (no pun intended)

He has nil NHL experience and stands to become a UFA next summer if he doesn't get 28 games of NHL experience between now and then. I don't see why he'd have any value to anyone anymore.

Mark my words -

Frank Doyle will end up being the better goalie in this league, whether it be with the Devils or not.

So far Doyle has had a very good season and on some nights has not had too much help. He seems to maintain his composure and plays a stand up style. Last year in Idaho the announcer called him Flatline Frankie in reference to the fact that he never gets too up or down. The Devils have a very good prospect in him.

Hard to believe that this guy was rated better than Lundqvist and equal to Montoya. Goes to show the value of ratings. Ahonen has been consistant about one thing, he has been consistanly beaten out of the #1 job at Albany as soon as another goaltender has shown up. 1st Clemmenson, now the rookie goalie with Albany. Another wasted 1st round pick.

Actually he wasn't a waste because in scouting him the Devils found Rafalski in Finland and signed him. Thanks Ari. :handclap:

Again, you allways are wrong! Like the Guy in the FedEx commercials......We don't get French Benefits!!!!! Ok last time for education, 27 overall is not a great pick and I rather have a Bust at 27 than at Number 9 like Lundmark.

And Since you proclaim the pick as a Waste, who was the great pick after Ahohen??

I would rather have Auld than Ahonen, but that's sort of nitpicky right now. Unless Auld goes nuts and actually wins something as Van's #1 this year.

There already making Lundqvist a plaque for the Hockey Hall of Fame. It's a done deal. Devils demise coincidentally started the deal he put a pair of pads on for the Rangers.

I really haven't seen him play, I've only read about his play via Ratsgirl.
