So why are the Devils so awful this year? Yes, I know they are over .500.. But let's not get it twisted. This team blows and wont make the playoffs unless something changes. My vote for the change. Fire Larry Robinson, and bring in Ftorek from Albany.


This team is full of fat cats who are too busy spending their millions, and polishing their cup rings to give an honest days effort night in and night out. That includes the goalie, who in my opinion is looking more forward to the olympics than the Devils regular season. I cant place all the blame on Brodeur, but some nights he looks like the Marty Brodeur of old, and then in the same game he can look like Hardy Brodeur(Hardy Astrom).

I place the blame on the ENTIRE coaching staff. Not just Larry Robinson, but John MacLean and Jacques Lapierrere. True, Bobby Carpenter was supposed to be the other assistant coach this year, and his presence is missed tenfold, but this year's coaching staff hasn’t done their job.

I’m really tired of seeing Scott Gomez smile on the bench in games the Devils are down 3 to 1. I’m tired of seeing Brodeur get banged into and ten seconds go by until Richard Matvichuk begrudgingly throws a punch that couldn’t hurt Reese Witherspoon. I’m tired of watching Vladimir Malkahov go through the motions and count his millions. I'm tired of hearing Brodeur say, after being a teammate of Scott Stevens for 11 years, "The "C" is only a letter!"

Larry Robinson is a nice, affable man. The perfect coach for the 2000 team that was in no need of either leadership from the coach, or a dictator like Robbie Ftorek.

That is not this team.

I want to see Robinson re-assigned again, and MacLean sent to Albany to coach the River Rats. I wanna see Ftorek as the head coach, with a hard-*** assistant coach from another organization. I wanna see the smile ripped off Scott Gomez's face, I wanna see someone wearing the "C" and not the 4 "A"'s. I wanna see someone elbow Jason Ward in the head after he crashes Brodeur's net, and I want to see hard work.

yeah you hit it on the head; 28 games into the season and this team just won't respond to robinson's coaching style.

I agree with you 100% about broduer; in my opinion he has been the biggest dissapointment so far this year; He is supposed to be the best goalie in NHL; it is not good enough for him to have played very well in 4 0r 5 games; he needs to play very well in 4 out of 5 games.

I actually think his only 2 great games this year were opening night v. pitt. and the other day v. minnesota;

I think he has actually cost the devils 4 or 5 wins this year. If he was playing well we may be 5 or 6 games over 500. instead of 1.

But certainly many other problems exist; I just think marty is getting off too easy this year.

lets put it this way; calgary had about 15 shots and we lose
colorado had about 8 shots in the second and third periods and we lose

two very good teams that for the most part the defense held in check; marty blew both games in my opiniion

Really?? I thought Lou reads these posts and makes his decisions based on the posts. Wow I am really upset now that I know these message boards won't change anything.

I make posts to look for intelligent discussions about devils hockey. so if I repeat myself, it is because nothing has changed and this is somewhat of an outlet.

When the devils defense start to pass the puck accurately and broduers starts to make the saves he is supposed to , I will cease comment. Until then don't read the crapp i post

If nobody in Albany likes him and they are loosing there, it is not going to be any better in NJ. And those in NJ who played for him in Albany will tell you they'd rather have Robinson coach than Ftorek any day. Robinson doesn't pull the strings in NJ, "the organization" does, and therefore he doesn't have full control of that team. I'm sure things would be different if he did. He has no say in who gets called up or who's on the team which is a joke, what's the point of having a coach?

Maybe a coaching change would benefit the team, but replacing Robinson with Ftorek is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

The biggest problem is your god Lou has paid a stupid amount of money to a bunch of old guys who are unmotivated(who I don't blame.... NJ is one of the last places guys want to play, awful fans, awful rink, the organizations stiffling rules), and the new NHL laughs at NJ"s "prized" boaring as hell defensive game, which Lou no longer has the stellar players to back up.

Ask Parise how much he likes playing in NJ....he's been virutally invisible this year. How do you think his play would differ if he had some confidence injected into him by his organization like Ovechkin or Crosby....My opinion is he'd be right up there with them but instead he's playing on avg 10 mins a game on the third/fourth line...That's great for your young stars confidence...

The Rangers, save for Jagr and a few others, work the buts off every night. Hence why they are in first place.

I wish I could root for a team that had heart and WORKED. Kind of like the Devils teams i grew up watching!

Watching this team makes me sick. The talent is there, that's what's so bad. If this were the 85-86 season, i could stand the losing. That team was short on talent, and long on hard work.

The Dev are the greatest team ever. They don't need to make trades or anything else. We are perfect just as we are right now. Don't criticize this team, it's the greatest team in Devs history. :biglaugh:

Right and they take hitting out of the game. People are now afraid to check cause they might get a penalty. Have you watch a Dev game? Have you seen people planted in front of Marty having a firing gallery while our D gets them coffee? That’s the way I want the Dev D to play. Yeup sure fire way to get us into the playoff.

Nobody has ever proclaimed this. Your problem is you go from one extreme to the other. You do not accept anything other then the Devils being a disgraceful and hirendous team with no hope or passion.

We all know they are mediocre at best. You do not think they will get better. That is fine. But it is certainly not rediculous to think they will. In fact it is more rediculous to say the team sucks.

and by the way.....the team can still make the playoffs. I guarantee that is not as rediculous as saying the team is putrid and pathetic.

Sadly you actually make decent points when talking about the coaching issues and player personnel in tact. But there is also the ability for things to get better. And when I root for a team with Lou Lamoriello as the GM who is committed to winning and I understand all the set backs (whic I acknowledge are not excuses) I know that things can happen. It is not like this team has missed the playoffs for 7 straight seasons with the highest payroll in the league.


In fairness to you, I know when you rant you only talk about this team of present and not the past. Interestingly though, I have never read one positive thing from you about the Devils. That is not a realist for an organization with a winning tradition. That is a pessimist always expecting the worst. So enjoy your miserable season. I will proudly hold out hope this team will make the adjustments need to make the post season. If they do not I will worry about it after the season and admit I was wrong. Right now I am enjoying the NHL as a hockey fan and loyally hoping for a turnaround from the Devils which is more likely then the team being a cellar dwellar. A lot of the players in tact should remain. Some however need to be let go.
