Trade idea - Witt

Witt has wanted out of Washington for a while now...just Caps didnt want to trade him in the offseason because they know they can get more for him when teams get desperate to make the playoffs!

What Caps need is depth at forward for sure...and a PP quarterback since all they have now is Heward.

Here's a possibility:

Malakhov, Langenbrunner/Brylin
for
Witt

Why would this work? They might want Langenbrunner since he has played with Friesen before and the 2 would be reunited. Brylin they might want since he is Russian and could help out on a line with Ovechkin and Zubrus. Finally, Malakhov, although old, can still do well on the PP.

Malakhov and his contract are untradeable.

I agree the Caps (and I imagine every other team) would have no interest in Malakhov's contract

I still see Brylin staying in a Devils uniform; I know no player is safe, but I have a hard time seeing Lou moving him, and he has been playing well this season, IMO

and it sounds like Friesen is out for awhile with an injury so there is no rush to pick someone up that he plays well with at the moment

The only players the Caps would have interest in would be Kozlov and Mogilny. They would really like a good Russian that can mentor Ovechkin and he can pass to. I don't think Witt is the answer though, after watching some Caps games it looks like he is pretty slow and not too effective in the "new NHL."

yeah that would be nice but who knows with salary cap how lou could pull it off.

I think the problem can easily be solved within ....hale and ference. and simply waive malakov

I like Witt, enough at one time('04 trade deadline) to give up White for him. Today, no way and I'm not ready to give up Hale yet, either. Although for him to be assigned to Albany after his camp, maybe Lou has been shopping him. :dunno:
