Rasmussen and Pihlman are hardly getting any ice time at all. That was Brylin's man. White was playing Zetterberg behind the net. Matvichuk's job was to watch the low slot area. Williams was in the face-off cirlce to Clemmensen's left. If Matvichuk had wondered out to the face-off circle, that would have left no defensemen in the low slot/top of the crease. Brylin should have covered Williams. The Devils centerman instead tried to play in between.

The Devils haven't won in Detroit since November 6, 1996. Brodeur got the 2-0 win. On November 27, 2002, the Devils should have gotten an overtime win when the puck went into the Detroit goal off of Madden's skate-blade, but the overturned it despite Madden not making a kicking motion.

The real kicker on that non-goal was watching other teams get the call as a goal against NJ on similar plays right before that game happened. Madden was pretty incensed. I was livid that night.

The Devils need to set the tempo and knock some noggins. You're right, there is alot of lollygagging.

BTW

Great PP, I see that we're connecting alot on passes and Rafalski is really dominating showing us he's worth every penny.

That's just a copout. If the reason these guys just watch the other team skate by is because they are afraid to take a penalty, they don't belong on the ice. Matvichuk and White are too slow to let these guys just cycle and cycle. At this point I kind of miss the days where White would take a stupid penalty but at least hit someone.

I agree to a certain point...I just finished watching philly and Calgary and it was a terrible game up until the last five minutes. Hatcher is so slow out there and got beat so many times but he still hauled down the player every time he got beat. Yes he got called on one but the others he did not....the score was 0-0 after 65mins. I guess what I am saying is take the damn penalty!

The biggest problem with the team I can see is their speed. They have it, they don't use it. They are way too nervous with the puck and telegraph their passes. If they would just play looser and, I don't know, maybe as a team they could play a LOT better. This team does not have much goal scoring and the other teams know it. Everytime Mogilny has the puck, they know he's going to try to shoot. The big difference with this team and teams in the past is puck possession. They can't handle dumpins and turn it over, they can't handle breakouts and turn it over. Everytime a Devils player gets it in the defensive zone with space they still clear it to the opposing dmen instead of passing their way out of the zone and up the ice. This is by far the most frustrating Devils team to watch that I can remember.

OMG, I remember that 2-0 game. That was in 96?!?! Marty made the save of a life time on Fedorov. It was a 2 on 1, and there was a cross ice pass from someone right to the tape of Fedorov who let it rip, Brodeur goes flying across in the splits and gets it with his stick while it's in mid-air! Does anyone besides me remember that?
