Any ideas on what the Czech roster could look like?

They are Canada's #1 threat, so IMO, they deserve their own thread.

new rules, can't trap like they are used to.They may have to adapt quick, they are skillful enough to do so but will they?

I'm betting they can but they don't want to get caught in a game flat-footed and get down a couple of goals.

Also, Reichel may well be on the team, their only "problem" is at centre (but you can hardly call Lang and Cajanek a problem... Straka will probably centre Jagr's line, possibly with Prucha on it).

Kotalik, as much as I love the guy, won't be on the team. His slapper is great to have on the PP, but they have Hamr and Kubina to shoot it. Zidlicky and Kaberle are no slouches either.

Goalies: Our main strength  .

1,2. Hasek, Vokoun - they habe been both great this season so far. If they can keep it up, it will be tough decision but I honestly cannot see a way healthy Hasek would not be a starter - he is a legend and scares opposing forwards just by beying in the net.

3. Normally, I would say it doesnt matter who is the third goalie, but Hasek is old and thus injury prone, so in my opinion it will be Hnilicka who goes. Would love to see Mensator though (is not on that list)

Defense: Our main weakness (if we have any) ;) .

1. Tomas Kaberle - Roman Hamrlik
Our best D-men, I am not sure if they will play together though. If not, Zids plays with Hammer.

2. Pavel Kubina - Jaroslav Spacek
Well, these two have been playing together on the int. level since a long time and as Kubina is a lock, I think Spacek goes.

3 . Marek Zidlicky - Kuba, Slegr, Kaberle F., Modry.
Fischer will be a lock on this pairing, if he is healthy. Zids is a lock.

Offense:

1. Havlat - Straka - Jagr

2. Elias - Lang - Hejduk

3. Rucinsky - Prospal - Dvorak

4. Cajanek - Vyborny - Hemsky

If healthy, the first 6 plus Prospal are locks. Sykora, Kotalik, Prucha, Varada, Bulis still have a decnt shot making that team, although Vyborny and Cajanek will most probably go.

valid point sir, yeah the czechs will ride the backs and will only go as far as you know who goes, the former Penguin mr Jagr leads the nhl in shots I think and should be lethal if Hasek plays like he does in international play, then hasek's a lockdown tender still hes proved that.

I've been tryin to project a few teams rosters using nhl view, this game editor for nhl 05.

I hope Hemmer makes the czech roster, if he lights it up down the stretch and into january man, not sure about Dvorak though maybe, most likely. Heres my roster I got...

Jagr / Prospal / Hejduk

Elias / Nedved / Rucinsky

Hemsky / Straka / Dvorak

Havlat / Vyborny / Sykora

Their top 6 D- Malik, spacek, zidlicky, kablre, hamrlik, skoula, Fischer if he can play by then with Hasek and Vokoun between the pipes.

I am worried about the Czechs come Turin. Hasek at his best is the best goalie in the World, even if Brodeur or Luongo were at their best IMO, and they are not even at their best now, plus Vokoun is also great and improving yearly. Jagr when he is motivated and hungry is probably the best forward in the World, along with a healthy Forsberg. Their D is incredable. Their other top forwards like Prospal, Havlat(when healthy), and Hejduk, are really in form this year. I have a hard time picking the whole team, I will have to think it over a bit.

Czech roster will be annonced at the end of December, and those 5 changes might be made till the end of January, I think.

Czech forum is pretty much dead and those who time by time come o these boards dont seem to be interested to share their opinions. Their decision. :dunno:

Plekanec has to be considered way before Bulis, he has been one of our best fowards so far this season... He is definitively a major upgrade over Ribeiro to center our second line..

True, but the Czechs won the last World Championships and boast a roster that top-to-bottom is almost as impressive "on paper" as Canada's. They should be considered one of the favorites.

Havlat was playing like crap last year and I don't think he got along with the coaches so he didn't make the team. He was great in the Olympics in '02 though at only the age of 20. Probably their second best player behind Jagr.
