Matt Foley* 10-13-2003, 06:24 AM Just thought I'd create a game day thread for the game tonight. This concept of a GDT seems to work well on other team's boards in terms of preventing multiple threads on the same topic, so let's see how it goes here.
If the Jackets play like they did on Saturday night, this should be a great game. These teams played two very interesting games in Columbus last year, both going to overtime. I have a hunch that this one will as well. I'll say Jackets, 3-2 in OT, with Sandy scoring the winner.

Anyone going to the game? What's the best radio broadcast out there for the Jackets?

The jackets site has links to listen. It's the same thing as is on 1460thefan.com, but I don't trust the radio station's website. NHL.com should have links to listen as well. Locally there is an FM station that covers it too, CD101, but I think their online feed is music while the game is on.
Aaron Vickers 10-13-2003, 09:21 AM BAH!
Games not on for another 8 hours.

Ill be there.
purecracka 10-13-2003, 03:50 PM Please keep all this coverage and commentary going for the games. Me being in Japan and thousands of miles away I cant watch the games, but I trust all of your differing oppinions and it feels like I watched the game right with you guys. I think the Jackets will ride the momentum (and the good goaltending of Denis) and come out of Nationwide on Columbus Day and get the win

Glad you're on board. I use to travel overseas all the time and after the first couple years of doing it I started to hate it, mostly because I couldn't keep track what was going on back home (this obviously was before the internet came to being).
2-1 Jackets at the end of two.
Vancouver was controlling the play in the game until Dan Cloutier came over to the Jackets bench and started trash-talking, which earned him an unsportsmanlike minor. That seemed to turn the flow of the game back to Columbus as they scored two quick goals to take the lead.
Vancouver then had a goal taken away as the net came off its moorings just before the puck went in.
Should be an interesting final period.
Aaron Vickers 10-13-2003, 05:00 PM 2-2.
Vancouver tied it 48 seconds into the 3rd.
Aaron Vickers 10-13-2003, 05:15 PM 3-2 Columbus.
10 minutes left.
Lets hope we dont collapse.
Matt Foley* 10-13-2003, 05:16 PM Jackets retake the lead at the ten-minute mark of the 3rd, 3-2. Not sure at this point if Richardson's wrister went in by itself or if Nash tipped it.
missionhockey21 10-13-2003, 05:34 PM I gotta hand it to the boys, they have really impressed me these first few games. You can tell they are really starting to develop, so it looks like it will be a very interesting season.
Matt Foley* 10-13-2003, 05:42 PM Jackets win, 3-2. I'm thankful we didn't need OT to get it done.
It was nice not having the other guys conduct a shooting gallery in the last minute, as was the case most of the time last year when the Jackets had a one goal lead in the last minute.

another good game, or at least the last half of it. i find it hard to believe that the team of the last two games couldnt beat atlanta ;)
another good game by fritsche. good to see him in the game with under 3 to go. correct me if im wrong, but king would have never done that. maclean gives his young players confidence and they are playing good. klesla has been a different player since maclean took over last year.
missionhockey21 10-13-2003, 05:53 PM Great win. It was nice to see Marchmant get his first goal in a Columbus uni too. :handclap:
I didn't get to see the first few Blue Jackets games this year.. how has Denis played so far?

Awsome. (Really)
missionhockey21 10-13-2003, 07:37 PM Awsome. (Really)
I'll second that. Denis was 'on' tonight against big scorers in Bertuzzi and Naslund.
jackets63 10-13-2003, 07:50 PM I didn't get to see the first few Blue Jackets games this year.. how has Denis played so far?
4 goals against in 3 games and every bit as impressive as those stats seem.
jacketracket 10-13-2003, 08:40 PM Just got back in from the game---I was impressed with the CBJ performance after re-taking the lead in the 3rd. The team played with confidence holding the lead late in the game---Marchant and Sydor paying dividends already?
I also liked seeing DM continue last year's practice of pairing Richardson and Lachance on D late in the game while protecting a lead.
Great game all around.
Special mention goes to Nasher for that sick move he put on Jovo behind the net in the first period.
This game may become a building block for team chemistry. A very impressive win against a strong opponent, despite a shortened bench due to injuries.
The Jackets had every opportunity and excuse to fall apart again, and didn't. When the 'Nucks mounted a flurry with five or six minutes left Denis came up big with the blocker and our D settled down. We even had a little forecheck going in the final minutes, after Vancouver pulled Cloutier. How cool was that?!
What the Heck was Cloutier thinking, that he would get in a fight with Shelley to light a spark under his team? That was just weird.
Our defense is looking a lot more organized than it did at any point last year, I think.
The injury thing is not making me happy though. Westcott has been playing great hockey, and if he's out for long we will miss him. (Oh well, there's always Ericksson ....)
3mta3 10-14-2003, 04:19 AM A few thoughts on a GREAT win by the good guys:
We were down one forward already when we lost Wright. Then we lost Wescott. We STILL got the job done though. WOW.
The Canucks owned the first period flow. The Jackets couldn't really get anything going but we still busted our tails to get something going. Hard work pays. So does some coaching between periods.
Everyone on the ice got the job done but some of the guys who stood out to me were Vyborny and Knutsen. Vyborny scores another jaw dropping goal from a sick angle plus he plays like someone twice his size on the boards and in his own end. Espen was backchecking like a madman and created some chances while shutting down the opposition.
Defensive depth is a good thing. Let's hope Duvie is ready to go on Thursday.
Nash, Nash, Nash. His tangling with Cloutier was excellent. Made Cloutier look like Hextall out there, just without the skill in the pipes. :)
KallioWeHardlyKnewYe 10-14-2003, 05:41 AM Slow start, but looked great all around, especially considering they lost two players early. PK looked great, especially as the game went on.
So many players stood out. Marchant, Sydor and Nash are the more obvious ones, but I have to give up love to the forwards (Cassels, Knutsen and Vyborny especially), who did a great job defensively.
Impressive. Hope they can maintain that level of play.

Again, what struck me most about the game was that the CBJ didn't look at all like last year's squad, terrorized when holding a late-game, one-goal lead. These guys looked confident, and Andy, Vibes, and Espo all looked big at the end, holding off a strong team.
IMO, for a team that won only 5 games within the division last year, this is the perfect time to have Chicago and Nashvlle coming up on the schedule.

wouldnt walser be the guy since he is already on the team

Probably so. My reference to Ericksson was intended as a joke but, come to think about it, he might be next in line after Walser. Let's hope it doesn;t come to that!
Matt Foley* 10-14-2003, 10:20 AM Duvie is listed as day-to-day at TSN.ca, as is Tyler. Hopefully the two days rest will be enough to get Westcott ready for the Chicago game.
darth5 10-14-2003, 12:29 PM I saw the last 6 minutes of this game by chance last night.
Great effort by your team for a nice victory!
