McDonald19 11-20-2005, 05:00 AM TODAY
vs. Vancouver, 1 p.m., Ch. 9
Site — Arrowhead Pond.
Radio — 1090.
Records — Ducks 7-9-2-2; Canucks 12-6-1-1.
Record vs. Canucks (2003-04) — 2-2-0-0.
Update — Giguere said he might play today although he is more likely to return Tuesday in Phoenix. Left wing Kip Brennan (shoulder strain) should be available after sitting out the last four games.
...Right wing Teemu Selanne scored Friday against Colorado after going without a goal for seven games. Some other offensive players have yet to break loose.
Center Rob Niedermayer's last goal was Oct. 28 against St. Louis. Forward Andy McDonald hasn't scored in seven games. Wings Petr Sykora and Joffrey Lupul are on six-game goal-less streaks.
"Obviously that's been a shortcoming of ours," Coach Randy Carlyle said. "We have to find ways to put those players in situations that allow them more opportunities to score more goals."
LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-duckrep20nov20,1,899072.story?coll=la-headlines-sports&ctrack=1&cset=true)
I actually dont know what to expect about this game. I hope we could win it, but expectations are not very high. Our shooting is 8th in NHL but scoring is 24th. More chemistry, more team play.. what else to say .. one for all and all fore one. " .. or maybe is it in accurancy ?? "
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 02:16 PM When your "top 6" has combined for just 2 goals in their last six games, you're going to have lost a bunch.
When your "top 6" has combined for just 2 goals in their last six games, you're going to have lost a bunch.
We knew coming into the season that offense was going to be in short supply for this team. Then we got fooled by a brief period where a couple guys were clicking, but now reality has set in. Iit's starting to look like '01-02 where the Ducks would score just few enough goals to lose.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 03:22 PM No consistent contributors here. Selanne, Sykora, McDonald, Lupul are all extremely streaky, and Niedermayer and Moen/Fedoruk/whatever are just not top six material.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 03:27 PM This could be a blow out, nobody can score and Burke has made a monumental mistake by not having something lined up when he traded fedorov.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 03:51 PM Our gritty players need to be more physical against the opponent's defensement. It'll give our forwards more space to play around the net.
Elbows and sticks down, no sensless shots .. more time to andy mac and selanne line and ... 4-3 to ducks :handclap:
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:12 PM Early penalty against the ducks, shocking.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:15 PM Perry is a healthy scratch...in favor of Brennan...why?
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:16 PM ducks take a penalty while on the PP.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:21 PM Another penalty
this is not hockey !!!! they can only play maybe 6 minutes 5-5
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:23 PM another pp for the ducks
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:27 PM I can't see the game today so someone please tell us about the cloutier/niedermayer fight!
I am listening the radio but i can hear excitment.. :handclap:
Which are the lines ?? Like I heard Mcdonald and selanne are together.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:30 PM LOL now Lupul ran into Cloutier, but he took a penalty.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:32 PM R. Nied "accidently" ran into Cloutier. The Ducks are playing desparate today and I love it.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:32 PM lol the refs make sure to also assess Lupul with a roughing so Vancouver has a 2 man advantage.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:33 PM Jiggy is hurt.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:34 PM ANOTHER PENALTY!!!
you can't give a team as talented as vancouver prolonged time on the 2 man advantage.
Giguere is hurt again lol
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:36 PM Good pk.
:biglaugh: They must rebuild the penaltybox... :D GOOD GAME
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:38 PM vancouver scores...you just can't keep taking penalties.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:38 PM Spoke too soon. Canucks lead 1-0
0-1 ok , it was expected
15:05 VAN S. SALO (5) (H. SEDIN (12) D. SEDIN (9)) PP
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:40 PM lol, Fedoruk reads the OC Register.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:41 PM Giguere is out again, jesus.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:42 PM Ducks need to capitalize on the pp. Cmon Ducks!
Dolemite 11-20-2005, 04:43 PM Giguere is out again, jesus.
The Vancouver announcers were saying that a Ducks defensmen may have nailed Giggy.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:43 PM Penalty against the ducks.
this is absurd.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:43 PM Ducks squander a pp with another penalty. Great!
OMG .. whats wrong whith that guy ... and i dont understand that game... how many penaltyes do they call !! :amazed: . Its not hockey.. it like floorball. DONT TOUCH ANYBODY
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:45 PM Looks like running cloutier was all for nought.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:47 PM Is Perry playing today? I don't see him.
Is Perry playing today? I don't see him.
Announcer said he is but.. :dunno: obviously he is not in PK line
How many penaltyminutes were on the first ?
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 04:49 PM Is Perry playing today? I don't see him.
he was scratched in favor of Brennan.
Nazzy-19 11-20-2005, 04:50 PM All these penalties are a joke. There is no flow at all.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:51 PM There's some fight in us today. I hope it continues but we need to stay out of the penalty box.
banana phone 11-20-2005, 04:53 PM Wow... that was a very penalty filled period.
Andy McDonald was the best Duck imo.
McDonald19 11-20-2005, 04:55 PM What's with these refs??? can we have some 5 on 5 hockey.
How does Cloutier only get 2 minutes for that crap he pulled on Rob?
That was great when Lupul ran Cloutier a minute later. The Ducks should keep it up, Brennan should take a run at Cloutier Sawyer style.
If the Canucks are looking for a fight they might want to pick on a different team...Fedoruk, Brennan and Moen are all in the lineup.
The lines are difficult to figure out with all the penalties. Getzlaf did not play in the first 10 minutes. This is the best I can come up with:
Moen-Niedermayer-Selanne
Hedstrom-Pahlsson-Wright
Fedoruk-McDonald-Lupul
Brennan-Getzlaf-Sykora
D pairings I have no idea but DiPenta is in Beauchemin is out.
Yeah with Perry healthy scratched in favor of Brennan I think it's time the kid goes to Portland for a while.
Jerky Leclerc 11-20-2005, 04:57 PM Yeah, I don't mind sending Perry to Portland. The kid needs some confidence right now.
Hockeyfan02 11-20-2005, 05:04 PM I wouldn't mind seeing Giguere stay healthy for once.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:05 PM Giguere is out for the game...why rush him back??
here are my three stars
1-st referee Shane Heyer
2-nd ref Dan O'Rourke
3rd Don Henderson
:sarcasm:
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:08 PM another penalty...shocker.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:11 PM pahlsson whiffs...jovo knees hedstrom.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:15 PM the powerplay sucks.

At least we know the whistles are working well....
Maybe they want to demonstrate their new NIKE whistles
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:21 PM I like it when Rob gets angry...
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:25 PM welcome back to the scoresheet Andy.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:26 PM Brent Severyn: "Boy oh boy guys are diving like crazy"
who's diving?
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:28 PM I looooooove penalties.
Hockeyfan02 11-20-2005, 05:28 PM Giguere is out for the game...why rush him back??
Don't know if you were replying to me, but I only said I'd like to see him stay healthy. Didn't mean I wanted to see him back out there today.
Andy Mac is back on the board.
Brent Severyn: "Boy oh boy guys are diving like crazy"
who's diving?
Brent is maybe watching some other sport ??
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:33 PM atleast they're consistant.
44 PIM-s Late second
sorry

Andy Mac is back on the board.
No...just talking aloud to the coaching staff, knowing they read this forum.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:38 PM 44 PIM-s Late second
sorry
46 (Bertuzzy)
and no fightings or game misconducts, this game could last 3 hours.
banana phone 11-20-2005, 05:38 PM this is a joke.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:39 PM Niedermania lol
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:41 PM Linden gets a penalty shot lol...I thought the rule was if you got a shot off you didn't get one.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:41 PM and he scores, what a backbreaker.
And the fat lady sings ... lalalallalaa ... penalty shot ..
banana phone 11-20-2005, 05:43 PM Both teams should send this in to the league, and ask them what the **** the new penalty calls are supposed to do.....
Nazzy-19 11-20-2005, 05:43 PM This game is a joke. The "hook" by Jovo was ridiculous so was the penalty shot awarded to Linden.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:43 PM ducks will have a 3:40 PP, but you KNOW it will be cut short due to penalties.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:45 PM This game is a joke. The "hook" by Jovo was ridiculous so was the penalty shot awarded to Linden.
Heads should roll...i'm all for enforcing the new rules but this is a joke.
Steveorama 11-20-2005, 05:46 PM Worst officiated game I have seen in a long time, maybe ever.
I don't think either team is getting an advantage, but these officials are wrecking what would probably be a pretty good game.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 05:49 PM WORST OFFICIATING EVER
Romniel 11-20-2005, 05:49 PM THAT WAS A F**KING penatly............................ ........now its 2-1 *** man!
Oranje10 RVN 11-20-2005, 05:51 PM :biglaugh: I can't believe that warranted a penalty shot!!
On a side note, I can't believe Linden actually scored. :sarcasm:
Oi'll say! 11-20-2005, 05:51 PM I was watching the game in a restaurant (no audio :propeller ) wondering "why is Cloutier still in net? Surely he's getting a major penalty..."
2 mins for roughing  ? That's only 20 seconds for each punch. If Bertuzzi started punching a guy who was down on the ice like that his nhl career would be over right now.
banana phone 11-20-2005, 05:51 PM Carney shouldn't have even gotten a penalty on that play, let alone a penalty shot for Linden.
Crows 11-20-2005, 05:52 PM Hey ducks fans. I'm a massive Canucks fan. I'm here to absolutely express my hideous disgust with this reffing. It is truely the worst ive ever seen in my entire life. I admit that Linden PS call was the worst ive ever seen. This game is a complete joke, the reffing for boths sides has been laughable and a complete joke.
I can't even tell which team deserves this game, becuase all we see is powerplays..... Complete and utter disgrace this game has been.
I say we do a mass barrage to the NHL officiating office. Ducks fans and Canuck fans together to show truely how horrible this has been.
great_one98 11-20-2005, 05:54 PM Does anyone miss the old NHL? It seems as though falling on the ice warrants an automatic penalty. That penalty shot was a joke along with those Allen and Vishnevski calls. Ridiculous.
Romniel 11-20-2005, 05:54 PM HAHAHA BRIAN BURKE in his interview looks like the Undertaker hahaha........ :biglaugh:
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:55 PM Carney shouldn't have even gotten a penalty on that play, let alone a penalty shot for Linden.
The honesty is appreciated, the officiating sucks!!!
Crows 11-20-2005, 05:56 PM Ducks and CANuck fans unite.. go here to display our absolute disgust with this game.
http://www.nhlofficials.com/contact.asp
Oranje10 RVN 11-20-2005, 05:57 PM Now that I think about it, the penalty shot is no more outrageous than the 4:00 Jovo got....
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:57 PM who wants to take the under on 5 penalties this period?
Romniel 11-20-2005, 05:59 PM SCOREEEEEEEE!
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 05:59 PM Niedermania strikes...that makes up for that B.S penalty shot...
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:00 PM Lol penalty on Fedoruk, goodbye PP.
Osprey 11-20-2005, 06:00 PM As bad as that was, though, Carney really didn't need to hook in that case. It didn't do much to stop the scoring chance. I love Carney, but that hook was unnecessary.
Nice... good luck (via bounces) just redeemed that bad penalty shot call by evening the game back up.
EDIT: I can't believe Salei didn't shoot just now. No wonder the Ducks are struggling.
Hockeyfan02 11-20-2005, 06:02 PM who wants to take the under on 5 penalties this period?
From what it sounds like on the radio, I'll take the over.
Crows 11-20-2005, 06:06 PM wow... you let them play 5 on 5 and the play is 10 times better.. WHAT A SHOCKER YOU IDIOTS!
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:06 PM more penalties
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:09 PM atleast these penalties result in a 4 on 4 instead of a PP.
mayday mayday ... I lost may penalty count  is it over 50 ??
But positive side... our PK % is growing ;)
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:21 PM Lol. Fedoruk gets a penalty because Baumgartner runs into his own goalie. That makes sense.
3:2 Van
12:12 VAN S. SALO (6) M. NASLUND (14)
and
PENALTY
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:22 PM The ducks give up yet another late, third period backbreaking goal.
and of course Fedoruk is called for a penalty
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:23 PM they should make the teams replay this game with a different set of refs.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:28 PM So is this team ever going to score a late goal?
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:32 PM well, another loss..what else is new. Kinda got this empty feeling because the players aren't being allowed to play.
Ziggy Stardust 11-20-2005, 06:33 PM Here is the boxscore from NHL.com with all the penalties.
http://www.nhl.com/scores/boxscores/308_2_boxscore.html
So did Salei happen to pick up a double-minor for hooking? Haha. This officiating has been putrid and has slowed the game down to a halt. There has been no pace to the game thanks to the officials and their whistles. Imagine if this type of officiating carries on into the playoffs.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:35 PM Another ****ing one goal loss.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:37 PM I only watched the 3rd period, and I'm pissed at the refs. They sucked.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:38 PM Another ****ing one goal loss.
They are all happening the same way.
ducks go down 1/0 come back and tie it, go down 2/1 come back and tie it, then the other team puts them away with a goal midway through the third.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:42 PM It's pissing me off.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 06:43 PM The reffing made the first two periods unwatchable, but it's not the reason we lost. No clutch scoring. No clutch special teams.
Fedoruk and Moen and Brennan in the top 6 is ridiculous *****ing strategy and Carlyle's an ahole for sticking with it. THERE ISN'T ENOUGH OFFENSE HERE TO SPREAD AMONGST THREE LINES YOU CHINLESS FREAK.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:45 PM Everyone knows that except him.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 06:46 PM The reffing made the first two periods unwatchable, but it's not the reason we lost. No clutch scoring. No clutch special teams.

We suspected the team would struggle to score goals at times...that was before the Fedorov trade, and Burke has done nothing to replace him...should've had a plan in place.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 06:46 PM Fat little ******* weirdo. We should acquire Havlat so he can kick Carlyle in the nads.
edit - What the hell? Can't say b astard?
ILuvLA 11-20-2005, 06:46 PM If there ever was one, this was a game decided by the officiating, which was absolutely ludicrous for both sides. I honestly feel bad for you guys today.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:49 PM We should acquire Havlat so he can kick Carlyle in the nads.
I'll do it...hell.

Well there's not much that could be said about the refereeing so I'll leave that alone.
If you've lost 7 in a row, 5 by 1 goal, where's the logic in benching Perry, one of your players with pure offensive skill for Brennan when you've already got Fedoruk and Moen in the lineup?
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 06:51 PM Well there's not much that could be said about the refereeing so I'll leave that alone.

There's no logic to it. Our entire offense is built on getting guys out there with no skills.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 06:52 PM If there ever was one, this was a game decided by the officiating, which was absolutely ludicrous for both sides. I honestly feel bad for you guys today.
Big of you.
Ziggy Stardust 11-20-2005, 06:53 PM All that toughness acquired by Burke sure is paying off eh? I think Fedoruk and Moen was enough, I can't see what Brennan brings to the table that Fedoruk doesn't already provide. What a waste of a roster spot.
ILuvLA 11-20-2005, 06:55 PM Big of you.
Hey, I was being honest. This would have sucked for any team. The officiating was an absolute joke. No game should be decided by the officials, period.
danaluvsthekings 11-20-2005, 06:57 PM There's no logic to it. Our entire offense is built on getting guys out there with no skills.
I wonder if Carlyle is getting any pressure from Burke to play all three enforcers to make his offseason moves look better. Fedoruk's played well but there's no need for 3 tough guys in the lineup at the same time.
Osprey 11-20-2005, 07:01 PM The team would probably be better if all of the tough guys were moved down to the bottom two lines, leaving only scorers on the top two lines. If anything, drastic changes to the lines need to be made to get this team scoring again. It's obvious that Selanne and McDonald can't be counted on for every goal, as was the case in October.
lux_interior 11-20-2005, 07:28 PM It was good to see some fight in Teemu.
Burke's Evil Spirit 11-20-2005, 07:41 PM I wonder if Carlyle is getting any pressure from Burke to play all three enforcers to make his offseason moves look better.
Fat chance of that...
Burke's Evil Spirit 11-20-2005, 07:41 PM It was good to see some fight in Teemu.
I agree. It is great to see Teemu Selanne playing with passion, skill, and grit again.
Randall Graves* 11-20-2005, 08:23 PM I wonder if Carlyle is getting any pressure from Burke to play all three enforcers to make his offseason moves look better. Fedoruk's played well but there's no need for 3 tough guys in the lineup at the same time.
Moen is not just a tough guy, he's played well, so has Fedoruk. Brennan should not be taking minutes from Perry.
Chistov23 11-20-2005, 10:09 PM That game was a joke. I thought half way through that since we can't win games, maybe we might have a chance winning this one, with it hardly resembling an actual game but nope. I was surprised to see Giguere in net, not surprised to see him leave early. Fedoruk has been great and all, and it was cute putting him on the PP for a shift, but keeping him there is getting old. R. Nieds, Lupul or Getzlaf can all screen the goalie, no need for him out there. Finally, Marchant being on waivers again has me worried. Looking around the teams, only NJ seems like a logical trade target with their cap problems coming up. Marchant would obviously be an upgrade but at his salary for the next 2 and half years, it is not worth it.
One more thing, on the cycle. We do a good job of it, Nieds line, and Pahlsson's line do it the best. However they don't understand that at some point someone is suppose to cut to the net and that is when you get a chance (like when Colorado scored their goals on us). Instead we just keep cycling the puck :dunno: .
McDonald19 11-20-2005, 11:09 PM Wow I can't believe how bad the officiating was in this one. Calls on both sides were terrible, with the Penalty Shot call being the worst.
Hate to see Teemu take an elbow with 20 seconds left and no retaliation done. I know Allen was in the box, but you dressed Brennan over Perry for a reason...so send him out there to do what he is payed to do. 20 seconds left with a faceoff that far from the offensive zone, the chances of scoring a tying goal are 1% at best...so let Brennan make a statement...Otherwise send Brennan to the minors and recall a generic grinder like Gavey.
McDonald19 11-20-2005, 11:13 PM I wonder if Carlyle is getting any pressure from Burke to play all three enforcers to make his offseason moves look better. Fedoruk's played well but there's no need for 3 tough guys in the lineup at the same time.
Moen is a middle weight who skates well and brings some skill. Fedoruk is one of the best skating and most skilled enforcers I've ever seen. Brennan is the only generic enforcer of the three. He had been out for a while with a shoulder problem so Carlyle wanted to give him a chance to play again before he is relegated to his usual healthy scratch.
McDonald19 11-20-2005, 11:14 PM Kurtis Foster update:
Kurtis Foster scored his first two NHL goals and the Wild ended a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
Foster, who led AHL defensemen in scoring with 15 points in 19 games, was recalled from Houston on Thursday. Before his appearance, Minnesota defensemen had scored just nine goals.
--------
So why is DiPenta better than Foster?

Foster can't play D, but I agree with the sentiment.
What makes Brennan better than Penner?

We are past this. DiPenta better than Popovic? Marshall? Foster? Rome?
Answer: probably not.
Is he Carlyle's guy?
Answer: yes
Class dismissed..
Dreamgirl 11-21-2005, 04:12 AM The Canucks guys interviewed Burke today during one of the breaks in the game. From the way he looked and talked, he is not happy with things. Look for him to do something, and soon.
McDonald19 11-21-2005, 04:24 AM right...here is another question (for Prof Frink and Rallykiller):
Why is Beauchemin a Duck? Is he any better than DiPenta, Marshall, Rome, O'Brien, Popovic, Foster?
McDonald19 11-21-2005, 04:32 AM I think the problem with this team is a lack of an identity.
I used to blame this on the Niedermayer's but I think they have stepped up their leadership lately and both have played well. After the trade of Fedorov, Scott Niedermayer seemed to finally feel like this was his team and he has been sticking up for his teammates, and has been involved in everything going on in the game.
I don't think leadership is the problem, rather it's that the players don't know their roles. Look at Getzlaf he didn't get to play the first 10 minutes...what is his role? benchwarmer? What's Perry's role, pressbox viewer? Is Rob Niedermayer a scorer or a checker? Is Hedstrom a scorer or a checker?
So now I blame it on Carlyle. He insists on putting a grinder on every line. At some point I wish he would try the more traditional 2 scoring lines, 1 checking line, 1 energy line.
Selanne-McDonald-Lupul (scoring line 1)
Sykora-Getzlaf-Perry (scoring line 2)
Rob Niedermayer-Pahlsson-Hedstrom (checking line)
Fedoruk-Wright-Moen/Brennan (energy line)
McDonald19 11-21-2005, 04:35 AM What makes Brennan better than Penner?
He isn't. But if you only have 1 minute of ice time for either player (or Perry) you might as well play the guy who can beat someone up. Penner, or Perry need at least 10-15 minutes of ice time to do anything.
Carlyle.
Selanne-McDonald-Lupul (scoring line 1)
Sykora-Getzlaf-Perry (scoring line 2)
Rob Niedermayer-Pahlsson-Hedstrom (checking line)
Fedoruk-Wright-Moen/Brennan (energy line)
I agree with U . Carlyle math is " Little scoring from every line " so now we get 0,3 from first, 0,4 from second, 0,2 from third and 0,1 from fourt and lets sum it 1 Goal per game or when its better day , its 2 goals. But with McDonald19 lines I see 3 goals per game. And that is where the game starts going.
So please somebody send Carlyle NHL2006 videogame so he can learn how to make lines.
Chistov23 11-21-2005, 12:56 PM We are past this. DiPenta better than Popovic? Marshall? Foster? Rome?
I'd say he has played better than Marshall, Popovic can't make the thrashers D, Rome needs ice time and is young, Foster is up in the air. It really isn't a big difference who plays that role, as you can see you can get a 6/7th defensemen anywhere.
