Update — Colorado, fourth in the Northwest Division, started the Ducks' six-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory Nov. 3 in Denver. Carlyle is holding off on putting Jean-Sebastien Giguere (strained hamstring) on injured reserve in the possibility that he may be ready Sunday against Vancouver, but Ilya Bryzgalov will get his second consecutive start tonight.

...Francois Beauchemin, who came with Tyler Wright from Columbus in the Sergei Fedorov trade, took part in his first practice, but his arrival leaves the Ducks with a bit of a roster problem.
Beauchemin, a 25-year-old rookie, gives the Ducks eight available defensemen as Sandis Ozolinsh returned to the lineup Wednesday after sitting out nine games because of a cracked rib. Most teams carry six or seven on the blue line.
While a move could be in the works, Carlyle said he isn't planning to juggle ice time for the extra bodies. Beauchemin was a healthy scratch Wednesday.
"Right now, I'm worried about the best six that are going to play and that's what our focus is," Carlyle said. "I'm not worried about ice time. I'm worried about dividing and putting the best lineup on the ice that gives us the best opportunity to win."...
Left wing Kip Brennan practiced, but the target date for his return is Sunday against Vancouver. Brennan, who has sat out the last four games because of a strained left shoulder, aggravated it last week during a morning skate and took a cortisone shot on Tuesday to alleviate the pain.

Snap Wilson 11-18-2005, 12:35 PM I have a good feeling about this game.
Me too, even if it's only a "regression towards the mean" sort of thing.
Kick Save 11-18-2005, 02:52 PM I have a feeling that Burke is about to move at least one of our d-men . . .
real soon. If not, why wasn't Beauchemin sent directly to Portland rather than reporting directly to the Ducks? If it would have been necessary for him to "clear waivers", (1) why was he included in the deal or (2) why wasn't one of the other d-men (e.g., DiPenta) sent to Portland?
RoyIsALegend* 11-18-2005, 05:52 PM Good luck tonight.
What are the crowd sizes for Avs games at Arrowhead usually?

What are the crowd sizes for Avs games at Arrowhead usually?
Well, last year I think they were both sellouts(sellout=17,174)...I know the second one was but mainly because the return of Kariya/Selanne. With the way the Ducks have been playing as of late and based on recent attendence figures, I'd be surprised to get over 13,000.

Average attendance for Avs games at the Pond the last 3 seasons: 16032, 4 sellouts. 2 of those were fan appreciation night, and the other two were last season.
Randall Graves* 11-18-2005, 08:25 PM Selanne hasn't scored a goal in 7 games...time for him to get his *** in gear, ditto for Lupul.
lux_interior 11-18-2005, 08:32 PM Just his ***? Nothing else?

RallyKiller wants Teemu to get a little weight off the rump.
McDonald19 11-18-2005, 11:20 PM 1-1 after the first.
-goal by Hedstrom off a turnover by Liles. Nice finish by Hedstrom, tweeners.
-defensive breakdown by the Ducks on the Avs goal...man Ozolinsh is terrible, what was he doing on that play. It was the end of the powerplay so the Ducks on the ice were tired and hadn't made a change.
-Fedoruk threw some big hits and was later challenged by Brad May. Good fight traded some punches then Fedoruk tagged May with a couple of big lefts. Win Fedoruk. Ducks bench up hitting their sticks on the boards, a noticeable smile on the face of Joffrey Lupul after watching the Fridge fight.

Chistov23 11-19-2005, 12:11 AM You would think our guys should know by now you have to dive in order to get the call, our opponents always seem on top of this.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-19-2005, 12:12 AM Sykora, you're fired.
Sykora, you're fired.
He's been brutal, just brutal. Every game he takes at least a couple of those hooking type penalties. You'd think he'd figure out that they're CALLING THOSE THIS YEAR.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-19-2005, 12:17 AM He should have thrived in this environment, and instead he turned the laziness dial to 11. All that work Perry did on that shift to win the puck three different times and Sykora's like "gee, hope it comes to me".
RoyIsALegend* 11-19-2005, 12:23 AM I was laughing hysterically on that Brett Clark penalty shot. I don't think he's taken one of those since PeeWee. :biglaugh:
Oh man, Lappy just got annihilated by Vish.
jgonz24 11-19-2005, 12:44 AM ouch!
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-19-2005, 01:03 AM 7 in a row. What's the franchise record, I can't remember. Is it 9?
RoyIsALegend* 11-19-2005, 01:04 AM Avs win 3-2.
Good game folks, I came away very impressed by Ilya Bryzgalov yet again.
What's with Petr Sykora, by the way? He looks absolutely nothing like his former self and is coughing up the puck everywhere. Why does he play the point on the PP with such awful control?

He does everything that poorly. It's not like he saves it up for our power play.
lux_interior 11-19-2005, 01:17 AM Yes! Svatos goes top shelf, Selanne hits the crossbar, Sykora dicks around with the puck, and the streak stays alive!!!

Well he did score tonight.....of course it was after the game ended.

Why not make "10" more lazy?
Randall Graves* 11-19-2005, 01:43 AM the ducks played decently but they take way too many penalties and the lack of proven scorers is rearing it's head. Burke needs to do something fast.

sykora stinks...the ducks need to trade him while he still has some name value left.
Dirk316 11-19-2005, 02:08 AM Vish,Carney, and Neids looked good on D
Salei and Ozo looked below average
FW's i was impressed with-Hedstrom,Wright,Getzlaf,Neids,Fedoruk,Sellane
Not impressed -Sykora (needs to get traded)
RoyIsALegend* 11-19-2005, 02:14 AM Oh, I almost forgot to mention... I'm absolutely envious and jealous of you guys getting to see Scott Niedermayer play for you 82 times a year.
What a treat that guy is.
He makes a great play in the offensive zone, then the play turns around and I see him stopping the Avs offense. I'm wondering how the hell he got there that fast considering he was so deep in the Avs zone during the break-out. He has to be the most effortless and natural skater I've ever seen and that includes Paul Coffey.
 Scott Niedermayer
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-19-2005, 02:19 AM Why not make "10" more lazy?
I was going for a little Spinal Tap action.
Vish really is looking good lately though.
Osprey 11-19-2005, 02:33 AM The Ducks looked to me the same as they've looked in every game of this streak: decent offense and chances, but missed opportunities and not converting. Few players have any drive. It's as if they think that they can just buzz around and hope to put a puck into the net, rather than anyone really focusing on the objective and taking the initiative.
Is anyone else really questioning the coaching staff? Trading Fedorov did nothing to change anything, so I'm thinking that more player changes would do nothing, as well. It looks to me more of a coaching issue than a player issue. I'll give Carlyle the benefit of the doubt, but maybe the assistant coaches need to be replaced, if only to greatly shake up this team. I don't know. This streak has been very frustrating to watch because nothing is being improved on from game to game.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-19-2005, 02:51 AM Yeah, we know. No lines. Only a gaggle of Ducks.

Carlyle hasn't shown me anything really...he won't let guys develop chemistry and it doesn't look like their are game to game adjustments. He needs to skate all the laziness out of these guys in an upcoming practice. MacT did the same thing to the Oilers and they turned it around.
Also it seems like Bryzgalov plays great, and then gives up a soft goal, much like Guy Hebert...
RoyIsALegend* 11-19-2005, 04:49 AM Also it seems like Bryzgalov plays great, and then gives up a soft goal, much like Guy Hebert...
Which goal was weak?
The first one where the JAM line made Anaheim's defense look embarassing and he had absolutely NO chance on Milan Hejduk's doorstep tap-in?
Or do you mean the second one where a knuckle puck, back-hander on a bouncing puck in the slot gets past him?
Surely not the third goal where Marek Svatos labelled it top corner and it would've gone in on any goalie in the league, right?
I thought he was very impressive and shut the door on several key Avalanche opportunities.
Jerky Leclerc 11-19-2005, 08:55 AM Bryzgalov isn't giving the "soft" goal but rather, he's not making the BIG save to win us the game. He's still young though and needs to raise his game to the next level to be a #1 guy in the NHL.

No goalie is going to win when his team gives him 1-2 goals a game. Its stating the obvious, but the Ducks are 7-2 when scoring 3+ goals and 0-11when scoring 2 or less.
I thought Bryzgalov was huge in this game, especially in the second peroid. He gave his team every chance to win that he possibly could.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 11-19-2005, 02:14 PM Wow, did Vish ever lay out Lappy. I think this guy is making Salei or Carney more expendable by the day.
Tough loss to take, though. It must be really frustrating for a team when out of your 13 losses(including the OT and SO ones), 12 of them have been decided by two goals or less, and that other one was only decided by 3 goals. Also of note is that the most goals the Ducks have gaven up in an entire game is 4, and I think they only did it once. This team really needs to start scoring, and hopefully we can unload Sykora while we have the chance. He's been terrible this year.

Is Sykora playing hockey for the Ducks? I thought he was acting in the performance called the Invisible Man.
lux_interior 11-19-2005, 08:19 PM He sometimes skates around with a stick, but it's an insult to call it "hockey".

He's playing like a good goalie but the 2nd goal was stoppable.
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 03:07 AM Stoppable if he'd been expecting it I guess. Our D has been prone to the huge breakdown lately.
Dreamgirl 11-20-2005, 11:29 AM Our D have been almost invisible for some time now as have been our scorers! If the whole team is doing so poorly, instead of looking to individual players, we need to look above them. Someone is not doing their job and it looks more like a "breakdown" in the coaching area.
Fan.At 11-20-2005, 12:01 PM Not impressed -Sykora (needs to get traded)
When I saw Sykora play at the WC in Vienna last spring, I thought he will rock in the NHL this season. Him, Prospal and Jagr looked really strong for the czech team.
No idea whats wrong with him now...
Spankatola Jamnuts 11-20-2005, 02:19 PM Prospal and Jagr are still tearing it up...
