Jshibley 04-03-2004, 01:34 AM HOUSTON, TX -- Curtis Glencross scored a pair of power play goals to help the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks skate to a 3-3 tie with the Houston Aeros Friday at the Toyota Center.
Glencross deflected a shot by Mike Mottau past Houston goalie Frederic Cassivi with 17 seconds remaining in the first period to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead and tied the score at 3-3 midway through the second period.
Casey Hankinson also scored and Chris Kunitz had two assists for the Ducks, who have earned points in seven of their last eight games (3-1-4-0).
Dan Cavanaugh had two goals and an assist for the Aeros, who remain three points ahead of Cincinnati for fourth place in the West Division. Billy Tibbetts earned an assist on all three Houston goals.
Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 32 shots for the Ducks, while Cloutier finished with 31 for the Aeros.
The Ducks face Milwaukee Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Bradley Center.

"Gornick finished the regular season with a career-high six-game point streak and had 14 points (7g, 7a) in his final eight games."
"Not a bad opening season in the ECHL for the San Diego Gulls. All they did was win the Brabham Cup for the best overall record in the regular season. The Gulls clinched home-ice advantage throughout the Kelly Cup Playoffs Saturday night with a 2-1 win over their first round opponent Alaska Aces, before 10,089 at the Sports Arena."
"Round one of the playoffs, sponsored by Assil & Flowers Vision Institute and Medical Group, Inc. begins Tuesday. It will be a best-of-five series format with the Gulls holding the home-ice advantage. Games 1 and 2, held at the Sports Arena, will be Tuesday and Wednesday, both starting at 7:05 p.m. The series then shifts to Anchorage, Alaska for Game 3 and, if necessary, Game 4. If necessary, Game 5 would be back in San Diego on Tuesday, April 13."

Chistov Assigned to Cincinnati
4/5/2004 Monday
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has sent left wing Stanislav Chistov to the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
A 20-year-old native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, Chistov appeared in 56 games with Anaheim this season, earning 2-16=18 points and 26 penalty minutes. He has appeared in 135 career NHL games, earning 14-34=48 points with 80 penalty minutes. Previously with Cincinnati this season, he played in 20 games, earning 3-7=10 points with 33 penalty minutes.
The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks have a current mark of 28-36-12-1 for 69 points. They lead sixth-place San Antonio (64 points) by five points for the final playoff spot in the West Division. The AHL Ducks have three regular season games remaining (San Antonio has five). Chistov is eligible for postseason play with Cincinnati.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 04-05-2004, 07:35 PM I wonder if they'll send Lupul there for the AHL playoffs. Maybe Holmqvist too, when he's healthy, unless he's already down there and I completely missed it.

Lupul isn't on the clear day roster, so I don't think he can be eligible to play in the playoffs
Holmqvist is eligible to play. He was assigned to Cincy on the 9th of March, but on the 14th of March suffered an abdominal injury which has him out for the remainder of the season.

It's true. And how embarrassing it was. For him, for the team and for the fans. He's had attitude problems before this season, but has shown much improvement this year. At least up until Saturday night. I have to say for myself that I was very disappointed in him. Granted, he can't play the whole game by himself. He let in a couple soft goals. I just don't know what it is with Ilya. He can make the most tremendous saves, but then turn right around and let those easy blocks right in the net! :banghead: Maybe he takes the easy ones for granted, I don't know. When he's on his game, he is awsome! I wish he could be consistant about it. :dunno:
But then again, we need to have consistant defense as well. And of course, if we're not scoring the goals we're not getting ahead either.
Chistov23 04-13-2004, 03:57 PM I don't blame bryz one bit, he has to play many times 3 games in 3 nights. In the NHL that doesn't happen, they don't allow 3 games in 3 days. You can tell by the stats ferhi has that Bryz wins most of our games. They should had just pulled him when he wanted to.
Jerky Leclerc 04-13-2004, 10:57 PM Hasek is still living it up during that one playoff game when he pulled himself. I think Nolan got fired and Hasek got traded that summer.
A dumb move by Bryzgalov but the kid is still a kid. He'll learn soon enough that he can't pull that type of stunt anywhere....not in Europe, not in the AHL, and certainly not the NHL.
Duckshockey20 04-15-2004, 01:07 PM I don't blame bryz one bit, he has to play many times 3 games in 3 nights. In the NHL that doesn't happen, they don't allow 3 games in 3 days. You can tell by the stats ferhi has that Bryz wins most of our games. They should had just pulled him when he wanted to.
Of course Ilya does.......he gets more playing time than Eddie. Eddie could be a great goalie if he had more game time, I think. There are things that he needs to work on, but if he's not working on them in real situations, he's not getting the experience he needs to do so!
To have pulled him when he wanted to would have been silly. It wouldn't have set a very good example. The coach would have basically saying (in a whiny baby voice here...)"Well, it's okay. You can just quit on your team. I understand and if you ever have to pull yourself again, I can always put someone else in there for you. (as he pats his head and a quick rub of his shoulder and a really sorry looking face)" Come on, the Coach was right to send him back out there. And I don't agree with some of the things Bradshaw does! He showed him that Ilya can't be a cry baby and quit on the team because he's feeling sorry for himself.
I like Ilya, don't get me wrong. Like I said, his attitude has improved alot since last season. But this was as embarrassing if not more than when he threw the stick out of the ice area into the stands. There is NO room for that kind of attitude here. Even from a "kid". How long have they been playing? They should be disciplined enough to know better, no matter how old they are.
Spankatola Jamnuts 04-15-2004, 08:07 PM But this was as embarrassing if not more than when he threw the stick out of the ice area into the stands.

Spankatola Jamnuts 04-21-2004, 07:08 PM Series preview (http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/04/21/spt_sptshok1a.html):
The symbolism is inescapable.
The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, fresh off winning the first playoff series in their seven-year history, hope to keep that momentum going as they continue American Hockey League postseason play.
The Ducks, who went to Houston last week and shocked the defending Calder Cup champions by winning the first two games of a three-game playoff series, open a best-of-seven series tonight at first-place Milwaukee.
"You want to go into the playoffs playing the best hockey of the season, and that's what we're doing," said Mighty Duck Tony Martensson, 23, who had a goal and five assists in the Houston series.
Martensson and the Ducks are hoping to catch the Milwaukee Admirals a little off their edge because of a nearly two-week layoff before tonight's series opener.
"Milwaukee's main asset is their speed," Ducks coach Brad Shaw said. "They are fast with great transition. We have to limit our turnovers, play smart and take a lot of confidence into this series from what we did in Houston."
Said Martensson: "We're going to try to jump them right away."
If the Ducks can win a game or two in Milwaukee, they will come home to the Gardens in great shape and be in position to play in front of a rocking Gardens crowd at 7:35 p.m. Saturday.
Everybody says playoff hockey is the best, and now anybody in Cincinnati who has any curiosity in hockey at all will get the chance to find out.
"This is what you want," Martensson said. "It is so nice to come out on the ice and see the arena almost sold out."
Martensson said it took maybe the whole season for the young guys to learn this kind of hockey.
"It wasn't like we sneaked up on Houston," Martensson said. "... We beat them 4-0 right before the playoffs started. But they won it all last year, so maybe they were still a little satisfied from last year."
Martensson credited Ducks goalie Ilya Bryzgalov for playing rock-solid hockey the entire season. It provided a foundation for the rest of the young team to catch up.
"You have to have a great goalie to win, and we have a great goalie," Martensson said.
Bryzgalov, 23, has watched the Ducks come of age this season.
"I could see us coming together," Bryzgalov said. "We are such a young team, so many guys coming into this league from junior hockey. Having the veterans take a leadership role has really been key here. We have a nice blend here. Everybody wants to win. When we went into Houston, we were sure we'd beat them. Nobody doubted it. It's the same situation right now."
Shaw said the team really started to unite with 11 or 12 games left in the regular season.
"We had kind of put ourselves behind the eight-ball a little bit, gone through a 1-8-1 stretch and really had a tough time scoring goals," Shaw said. "I was messing with the lineup and trying different combinations and maybe pushing the panic button a little soon."
About that time, the brain trust and the players had a meeting.
"We said, 'Listen, we've got these games left and we want points in every game, at least a point in every game,' " Shaw said. "We didn't win very many of those games, but up to then we hadn't played very well on the road, and then we started to, consistently. As a team, we got a lot of confidence out of that stretch. It showed us how defense can win games down the stretch and into the playoffs."
The mantra going into the season was Make the Playoffs.
"We had Bryzgalov and everybody knows a goalie can take you a long way," Shaw said. The team we had October 1st is a mere shadow of what we have now as far as having the skill level and ability to play a pro game versus a college or a junior game. Guys have a much better idea of what they need to do to be successful as individuals and as a team. We had glimpses in January and February, but then we took some steps backwards."
Shaw gives a lot of credit to Dan Bylsma, 33.
"As a coach, you can say what you want, but if it's not followed up by comments in the (locker) room, then it doesn't carry a lot of weight," Shaw said. "He's a guy who went to the finals last year. He worked his way up from the minors and forged a career by working hard. He's not a fancy guy at all. He's a great example for these guys.
"There has been great veteran leadership, and Bylsma just happens to be the most vocal," Shaw said. "That's helped get the message across to the guys who aren't quite sure."
Martensson is pleased with the way his season has gone.
"I got my first NHL games and that was my goal going into the season," he said. "It's always fun to score points, and I've played with great players the whole year."
They have a ton of faith in Bryz, obviously.

Apparently, Milwaukee sent footage of a check that Dan did into the league and ask that they review it because they thought it was an "unclean" hit. :banghead: And so it goes, the league suspended him for that game. :shakehead
We are going to take a 3-1 lead tonight at the Gardens! Hope everyone listens in and routes for the boys! :handclap:
LETS GO DUCKS!

Kevin Forbes 04-28-2004, 08:05 PM how? I thought he'd have to be on the clear-day roster?

Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 04-28-2004, 08:12 PM If Perry can play, and will, then where the ******* is Getzlaf?
Cincy 04-28-2004, 09:06 PM If Perry can play, and will, then where the ******* is Getzlaf?
Perry has a goal and a assist so far. I don't beleive the Ducks have signed Getzlaf to a contract yet have they? Which would mean he is not able to play. I could be wrong though.

No, they haven't sign him. I'm just wondering what's the hold-up on that.

Nashville.
Chistov23 04-29-2004, 10:38 AM I still dont understand how Perry can play for them...
He signed an amateur tryout contract. I wonder if Getzlaf was hurt and that is why he didn't sign one? He could had started the playoffs to. Congrats to Perry for the game winner!! Hopefully they can close out the series on friday!! Go Ducks!
Spankatola Jamnuts 04-29-2004, 01:32 PM Maybe there's trouble getting him to sign.

bostonbruins 04-30-2004, 02:59 AM Other than the usual stats how has Glenncross been playing since his arrival in Cincy? has he been a physical presence? and who are his linemates? also what line # is he usually on?

Im proud to admit I am, sure beats not being in the playoffs for the real deal.
Boomhower 04-30-2004, 08:47 PM Game 6
2-2 after the first.
Perry's got another point :yo: , assisting on a Kunitz goal. Hankinson has the other one for Cincy, on the PP.

game 7 tomorrow!!!
Chistov23 05-01-2004, 08:25 PM Down 1-0 in the first period of game 7. I am listening to the first period before I go out for the night. We hit the post about half a minute before their goal. We then took back to back penalties but killed them off. Not a good start.
Chistov23 05-01-2004, 08:33 PM Well Kunitz just got 5 and a game for high sticking, the player had a bloody nose I guess :dunno: Sounds like a cheap call.
Spankatola Jamnuts 05-01-2004, 08:52 PM They've been taking way too many penalties all series, really stupid against the league's top power play.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted
Damn... now what do we do to kill this time in the offseason?
McDonald19 05-02-2004, 05:39 AM Bryzgalov giving up 6 and 5 goals in the two most important games in Cincinnati Mighty Ducks history...are we sure he is ready for the NHL?
Nice to see Chistov score 6 goals in 9 playoff games. Hopefully he works hard this summer and earns a top 6 spot in Anaheim.

To be fair, Milwaukee is a far superior team when they choose to be. They sleep walked through the first 5 games and were able to win 2 almost on skill alone. But they woke up in games 6 and 7 and there was nothing Cincy could do about it. Having seen both teams in action many times, this years Milwaukee team is just way too good for Cincinnati. Good goaltending (for the Ducks), bad goaltending (For the Ads), and a lack of effort kept this series close. You knew that if Milwaukee woke up, it was going to be over. You really can't blame Bryz. Though that OT goal he gave up in game 4 was as bad a goal as you will see slip through.

The Ducks defense is awful, and Milwaukee completely outclasses the Ducks anyway. It's a miracle they got as far as they did, on Bryz's back.
