entite 10-29-2005, 11:43 AM Does anyone have a clip of Dallas Drake's hit on Corey Perry in last night's game vs the Ducks?
I've checked, TSN, NHL.com, and even ESPN and it's not there. TSN and ESPN don't even have game clip highlights.
Thanks in advance.
x-posted to the Blues forum.
Pepper 10-29-2005, 11:46 AM Ahh so it was Drake who concussed Perry? What a surprise... :shakehead
Paging Fedoruk and Brennan, you know what to do in the next game against the Blues. :madfire:
entite 10-29-2005, 11:48 AM Looked clean to me. From what I saw Perry got caught with his head down.
Spankatola Jamnuts 10-29-2005, 02:22 PM No reason not to have your head down when you don't have the puck.
Duck Fan 10-29-2005, 04:42 PM Don't know why there wasn't a penalty on the hit. Perry did not touch the puck when Drake decked him. I'm surprised that Brennan was sent out to flatten Drake.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 04:59 PM And if anyone does have a clip, please forward it to Colin Campbell.
DuckTales22 10-29-2005, 05:30 PM I have to agree, from where I was sitting in the stand Correy Perry had his head down, clean hit.
Spankatola Jamnuts 10-29-2005, 05:36 PM He didn't have the puck, genius. Putting your head down is not the green light for open season on shots to the head.

didn't he just finish passing the puck?
MightyAdam 10-29-2005, 09:25 PM Well, for all you who thought Drakes hit on Perry was legal, this is what the National Hockey league had to say. And I agree with them...
Blues' Drake suspended for two games
NEW YORK - St. Louis Blues forward Dallas Drake has been suspended for two games, without pay, as the result of an illegal check on Mighty Ducks of Anaheim player Corey Perry during Game #157 Friday night. The incident occurred at 3:54 of the second period.
Drake will miss the Blues' game at Los Angeles tonight and against the Chicago Blackhawks Wednesday, Nov. 2. He will forfeit $12,408.16 in salary. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

nope NHL says illegal hit, 2 game suspension.
head hunting has got to stop.
McDonald19 10-29-2005, 10:28 PM Glad to see NHL suspend him, because if they aren't going to police their league then drop the instigator and let Drake deal with Brennan and Fedoruk.
190Octane 10-30-2005, 01:21 PM Weight's hit was borderline because Perry hadn't touched the puck, could've been called interference. I think that Weight's hit did a number on Perry but Drake just finished him off with fists/forearm to the head when he didn't even touch the puck.
I agree, the instigator is a problem.. although I doubt Brennan or Fedoruk saw the hit happen because of where it was on the ice.

The NHL has to come down harder on blows to the head. I don't care if the player leads with his shoulder, forearm, bicep, etc., it's just as dangerous as a elbow. A blow to the head is a dangerous thing and concussions are a problem.
These suspensions for hits to the head have gotta be longer.... They should be in the double digit range. I mean, what's 2 games to Drake, for 6 games for Boulton, or 5/6 to Sutton. Tucker could have really been hurt. Ranger had his jaw busted and a concussion. And Perry has a concussion.
NHL, please make the Head off limits. Someone is either gonna get really hurt or there is going to be a major brawl that is going to be shown across all sports stations after a superstar gets nailed.
The NFL has made helmut to helmut hits to receivers illegal, as well as any blow to the head. Even a follow through by a DL trying to knock down a pass by the QB that just catches the facemask earns a 15 yard flag.

In some leagues in Europe, for instance in Finland, there's already a rule that any check towards the head will automatically result in a 2 minute penalty, even if it's not a hard hit or there's an injury. This wouldn't be too hard to introduce to the NHL as well, or?

Except it would dramatically decrease the amount of hitting which is already almost extinct under the new rules.
FEL should get rid of the rule instead, it's dumber than instigator.

I'll take fewer hits if it means fewer concussions.... The head has to be out of play, plain and simple.
The other major contact sport in North America is football, and they are doing everything they can to penalize head shots. Helmut to Helmut is an automatic call. A forearm/shoulder shot to a WR is also a penalty. As is any follow through when a DL tries to knock down a pass, but catches the QB in the helmut.
You have to go shoulder to shoulder or shoulder to chest. Not shoulder/forearm/bicep/elbow to head.
Pepper 11-01-2005, 03:15 AM Elbows to the head should earn much bigger penalties, also hitting someone in the head when he doesn't have the puck should get you a stiff penalty.
But when you have the puck and surf down the ice with your head down, you should be prepared to take a legal hit to the head. It's hard to hit someone who's coming to you head down anywhere else so it will become a way to draw penalties (even major penalties!) and/or way to avoid getting hit.
If you have the puck, keep your head up.

Actually, I think it's been a good rule. Even if it cuts down on the overall hitting, I will take it if it cuts down on the head injuries. It will also show who is really a good hitter and who is just a big body who runs over people, increasing the importance of the players who can deliver good clean hits.
Dion Mustard* 11-01-2005, 11:58 AM Well, it's not like the NHL hasn't suspended a guy before on what was a clean hit. I think the fact Perry was hurt on the play, and the league wants to look like they have a backbone (especially after the Nasuland/Moore/Bertuzzi thing) had more to do with the call.
To me, the hit looked good (but what do I know, I only have played the game for 20+ years unlike most of you). But there is talk Perry didn't have the puck (which is what the replay shows) and talk that he had just passed it.
In reality, Perry plays with his head down a fair bit, so he'd better start looking up, or he'll be staring at the rafters quite a bit.
I'm positive that if a Duck laid this same hit on an opponent, those of you whinning would be cheering it.
The problem is, most of these young kids never learned how to take a hit or protect themsleves, because their equipment did it for them. Now, when they hit the NHL, they start getting hurt.

Although it might appear that way now...the NHL is not really the same as pond hockey.

Well whaddaya know, another pudwhacker that thinks that only they have the requisite qualifications to form an opinion.

...and his mind is already made up about things which are not in evidence. Nice job, fella. You're one of the most closed-minded doofuses to grace this board in oh...two weeks.

Well, that is still higher, and more experienced then you spending hours in front of your XBox.

And, it's spelled Dijon Mustard, not Dion Mustard, unless that would happen to be your real name... hmm..
Surprise surprise, the biggest London Knights basher on hfboards thinks the hit was clean.
Last year he kept claiming the Knights would be exposed as frauds, and that they'd suck this year. So I guess 20+ years of hockey experience isn't exactly a guarantee of hockey knowledge.

It's actually a homage to the great rookie defenceman in Calgary this year. So Dion is dead on.

They were exposed as frauds. Preventing the 67's training staff to use their skate repair equipment, leaking the hotel the Rockets were playing at to fans who pulled the fire alarm three separate times the night before the two teams played, convincing Branch to assign hometown officials do the final game. And seeing their schedule, I still say they will suck once they actually play the top teams in the league.

Dude, they won the memorial cup. They were easily the best team in the CHL that year. Deal with it.

Not only that, they put together one of the greatest junior seasons of all time.
That Mustard has to resort to the, "they had no class," argument just goes to show that when it comes to actual criticism of the play of the team he has a whole lot of nothing. You'd think someone who's a self-proclaimed hockey expert would be able to come up with something better.
I guess when a team goes 79-9-2 over the regular season and playoffs, all that's left is to take shots at off-the-ice stuff.
