Update — The Ducks sent goaltender Michael Wall back down to Portland (Maine), their American Hockey League affiliate. They also recalled winger Chris Kunitz.
...Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh has a fractured rib — suffered Sunday against the Phoenix Coyotes — and tried to play through the pain Tuesday against the Kings before sitting out Wednesday night's victory over the Calgary Flames. At the moment, there is no timetable on his return, Carlyle said.

Fedorov will sit out his eighth consecutive game tonight as the Ducks play host to the St. Louis Blues. The 35-year-old playmaker has been in only three games, originally hurting the groin in the third period of the home opener against Edmonton.
...It is an injury he has never experienced and one he says he has to be patient with.
"I'm hoping to feel a little bit better and at least start feeling a little more improvement," he said after a workout session during Wednesday night's 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. "At the moment, the way I think, no news is good news."
LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-spw-duckrep28oct28,1,1140577.story?coll=la-headlines-sports)
INJURY UPDATE
Neither Ozolinsh nor the Ducks had much of an idea how long he will be out. Ozolinsh, who suffered a cracked rib in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes, played through the injury in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Kings at Staples Center but was unable to go Wednesday.
"I tried it, but ... it's no fun at all," Ozolinsh said.
The rib woes are unrelated to the strained chest muscle that kept Ozolinsh out earlier this season.
"Any time you have a rib injury, it takes time for the area to settle down, and then the doctors will make an assessment with our medical staff on the time frame," Carlyle said.
Fedorov, who has missed seven games because of a strained groin, and Getzlaf, who suffered a strained shoulder Sunday, also remain out indefinitely.

Chistov23 10-28-2005, 12:55 PM A chance for us to get back to .500. Hopefully our PP will continue to create chances, our offense needs it! Kunitz being a LW could be given an opportunity tonight, should be something to watch for.
Ducks_è_Halos 10-28-2005, 03:30 PM I'll be there. They better win this time!
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 03:59 PM So that's what's up with Ozo.
Randall Graves* 10-28-2005, 05:25 PM Is anyone else growing really frustrated with the fedorov situation? I mean, how much longer does he need?
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 05:52 PM Is anyone else growing really frustrated with the fedorov situation? I mean, how much longer does he need?
Having worked on people who have "groin strains" I can tell you that they are very slow to heal.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 06:03 PM Meant to say also, according the the former PT for the Angels, that the pressure in sports medicine is not so much to get the athlete back into competition quickly as much as it is to get them back without having the same re-injury.
Randall Graves* 10-28-2005, 09:56 PM Having worked on people who have "groin strains" I can tell you that they are very slow to heal.
I'll take your word for it, but this went from a slightly strained groin to a three week injury.
A bit off topic, but you guys really shouldn't be too fuessed about having three players out (Feds, Ozo and Getz) until you look at my lacal fottball teams trouble. Newcastle have had 17 hamstring injuries this season already, on top of that out best striker has a hernia which he is playing through. That's also not counting the other guys out with other things. When that happens, things are bad. (I know that football if different from hockey, but having that many problems is never good.)
braincramp 10-28-2005, 10:22 PM Announcers say he twisted a knee in Wednesday's game.
Good way to start the game... 1-0 to the Blues...
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:45 PM Pretty good effort there from the 4th line of Kunitz, Gavey and Brennan. Hard working shift.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:47 PM Good way to start the game... 1-0 to the Blues...
That's the bad news. The good news is it's Divis' 18th NHL start, and I doubt he'll shut us out. And St. Louis has been giving up leads in games.
braincramp 10-28-2005, 10:51 PM Fedoruk-McDonald-Selanne
Sykora-Niedermeyer-Lupul
Brennan-Gavey-Kunitz
Hedstrom?-Pahlsson-Perry
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:51 PM Okay that was ugly. Giggy is way out of net and gives up a softie. 2-0 Blues. Now I'm concerned.
That's the bad news. The good news is it's Divis' 18th NHL start, and I doubt he'll shut us out. And St. Louis has been giving up leads in games.
They've have to give up a 2-0 lead now...
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:53 PM Well at least the 4th line goes hard to the net.
Hockeyfan02 10-28-2005, 10:53 PM Good way to build off their best game of the season on Wednesday. :(
Brennan with a face guard to night, no pulling an Iginla I hope.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:54 PM Divis is looking strong so far. Great.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:55 PM Lupul SCORES!!!! From Hedstrom. 2-1.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:56 PM Thank God they got rid of the crease rule.
Lupul form Rob Nieds!! only 2-1 to the Blues now!
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:57 PM Giguere looks uncomfortable out there...even stopping the puck behind the net.
PP for the Ducks now.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 10:58 PM Lupul form Rob Nieds!! only 2-1 to the Blues now!
Or Hedstrom.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:00 PM I thought about calling out Lupul in the shout it out thread...does that count?
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:01 PM 41 second 5 on 3. Let's go!!!!
Or Hedstrom.
I only heard Nieds on the radio.
We've looking good on the shooting, 10 more shots already. (15-5) Now a 5 on 3 too. Looking good.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:04 PM Selanne scores!!!! Tie game!!!!!
Hockeyfan02 10-28-2005, 11:05 PM Good comeback. Lupul and Selanne have been great this year.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:06 PM Not exactly a defensive struggle here. Jacques Lemaire must be going crazy wherever he is.
Ducks get a full powerplay again. Not sure how that works, I thought they would count the goal as being scored on the delayed call, and 4 seconds left on the PP.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:07 PM Hedstrom scores on a breakaway. Wow!!! That's a goal-scorers move to the backhand.
That's a third for the Ducks!! Headstrom on the power play!! Breakaway!?
Hockeyfan02 10-28-2005, 11:09 PM Hedstrom scores to take the lead. TERRIBLE change by the Blues, no defender was within 30 feet of Hedstrom.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:10 PM At this rate the final score will be something like 10-7.
Fedoruk and Walker hugging each other right now. And we get a phone call and I miss the fight.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:13 PM Another PP for the Ducks. Lupul draws the penalty.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:14 PM Selanne looks as dangerous as hell. So does Loops.
Seems like I'll have some nice highlights when I get up later (It's past 4 am now so I really should go to bet, damn you west cost guys!! LOL).
Jerky Leclerc 10-28-2005, 11:20 PM Selanne is playing great. I have never seen him hustle so hard and I love it.
McDonald19 10-28-2005, 11:21 PM 24 shots by the Ducks in that period?
I'm jumping on the Hedstrom bandwagon while their is still room, that was a highlight reel goal. Nice pass by Perry to send him in.
Fedoruk-Walker. They hugged then Walker was winning at the beginning, Fedoruk waited for the right time then comes back with his left throwing 5 or 6 in a row. Good fight, edge to Fedoruk.
lux_interior 10-28-2005, 11:27 PM Okay let's avoid the 2nd period letdown.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:01 AM I'm back!!! But I did see Sykora's goal. Nice. I guess the shout it out thread still has it going on.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:04 AM Wow. Didn't know Jason Marshall was the 9th overall pick.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:06 AM Great. Blues score a garbage goal. 4-3.
braincramp 10-29-2005, 12:06 AM We're gonna carry that Weight a long time
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:08 AM Power play for the Ducks. So if nobody does anything stupid, the Ducks will finish the period on the PP. And if they don't score, they'll have a fresh sheet for the powerplay next period.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:09 AM We're gonna carry that Weight a long time
Speaking of weight, I wonder why Tkachuk isn't playing.
Hockeyfan02 10-29-2005, 12:13 AM Speaking of weight, I wonder why Tkachuk isn't playing.
Rib injury, out for a few weeks.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:15 AM Lupul form Rob Nieds!! only 2-1 to the Blues now!
R. Nieds passed it to Hedstrom, who passed it to Lupul. Divis stopped the initial shot, but Lupul tucked in the rebound.
Speaking of weight, I wonder why Tkachuk isn't playing.
all u can eat night at sizzlers
braincramp 10-29-2005, 12:18 AM Only 4 Ducks penalties through 2 periods, and one was matched with a Blues penalty for fighting.
Spankatola Jamnuts 10-29-2005, 12:18 AM Hedstrom scores on a breakaway. Wow!!! That's a goal-scorers move to the backhand.
That was Kariya's old backhand topshelf move. Hedstrom's skill is starting to show.
OT, did anyone see the Carolina/Philly game? What great game. Matt Cullen scored a jaw-dropping goal for the game winner. The new NHL is pretty favorable for him.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:19 AM all u can eat night at sizzlers
Yeah I heard he got wedged between a couple of booths and they had to call in the jaws of life.
Kevin Forbes 10-29-2005, 12:25 AM OT, did anyone see the Carolina/Philly game? What great game. Matt Cullen scored a jaw-dropping goal for the game winner. The new NHL is pretty favorable for him.
yeah between him and Marc Chouinard tearing up the league...
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:25 AM Great now Perry is injured. Just what we need. :(
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:26 AM Scott sets up Rob on the powerplay. See I told you that fresh sheet of ice does it every time.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:29 AM We're playing well and all but we won't be able to keep it up with Fedorov, Ozolinsh, Getzlaf, and Perry out of the lineup. Aaron Gavey and Chris Kunitz will only take you so far.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:31 AM Weinrich scores. We need at least one more goal in this game. The goal was off Loops' stick. He's just a goal scorer.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:32 AM Aaron Gavey and Chris Kunitz will only take you so far.
Kunitz draws a penalty on the PK though.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:37 AM A 5 on 3 on the crappy Pond ice here. I say it's crappy, but you haven't played on crappy ice until you've played in Pasadena.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:41 AM I have a feeling this game will go to OT.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:42 AM Lovely save there by Jiggy. Nice little redirect by someone on the Blues right in the slot, but Jiggy is there. Okay let's switch to the Kings game since it's a commercial break.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:45 AM Okay nice save there again by Jiggy. We're in trouble though because there's heaps of time left, and sooner or later they'll beat him.
C'mon, put the pedal to the metal Ducks. Let's get her going.
And Selanne scores on another breakaway!!!! Vish feeds him.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 12:47 AM See Selanne's move there is what I try to do. Get the goalie to move laterally and slip it between the legs. But I always get under the puck too much and put it right into the goalie.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 01:02 AM Cajenek took too long to get that shot away. He one times it and he beats Giguere.
Great now it's a 5 on 3 again for the Blues.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 01:05 AM Well the refs are taking over this game. Powerplay for the blues now.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 01:09 AM Ducks win!! We're .500 again.
Ducks win!! We're .500 again.
Win!
Questions: How bad does the Perry injury look? From what I heard he got caught with his head down a few too many times, hope it isnt concussion
Randall Graves* 10-29-2005, 01:17 AM Great game tonight, I felt the ducks pretty much dominated the game. St.Louis got a few bounces that resulted in goals. Selanne was flying again, Hedstrom and Pahlsson both had excellent games in my opinion too. Everyone really pulled their weight, and Scott Niedermayer continues to get better every game.
Hockeyfan02 10-29-2005, 01:22 AM Ducks took advantage of every chance the Blues poor defense gave them (Selanne's 2nd goal, Nieds goal, Hedstrom's goal). 6 power play goals the last 2 games, looks like they've broken out of that funk.
Spankatola Jamnuts 10-29-2005, 02:17 AM Win!
Questions: How bad does the Perry injury look? From what I heard he got caught with his head down a few too many times, hope it isnt concussion
He took a couple shots to the head when he wasn't expecting it. He hadn't touched the puck in either instance.
Romniel 10-29-2005, 02:26 AM Omggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We Wonnnnnnn!!!
Randall Graves* 10-29-2005, 02:34 AM He took a couple shots to the head when he wasn't expecting it. He hadn't touched the puck in either instance.
I'm hoping it's not a concussion but every damn game someone gets hurt.
Fan.At 10-29-2005, 03:50 AM Vishnevsky setting up Selanne for the final goal was top notch
Ducks_è_Halos 10-29-2005, 05:19 AM I was sitting directly behind the goal but these annoying college/highschool kids who knew nothing about hockey kept standing up and coming and going and messing around so I didn't even see the 1st 2 goals scored on Giguere. Infact, they caused me to miss most of the plays that were taking place on the ice...I should have moved. :madfire:
Also, it seemed like there were a lot more than 12,000 people there so I was surprised to see the final game attendence (12,510).
I still like when Selanne and McDonald are on the same line...it's fun to watch their speed.
Carney seems to be quietly putting up points.
Kunitz didn't look out of place at all from what I could tell. He never hesitated to join in the rush. I didn't really notice Gavey that much.
I agree with those of you who said that S. Nieds seems to get better every game. He looked awesome out there tonight.
I really hope Perry's injury isn't a serious one. I noticed that he wasn't out there anymore after he was knocked down a few times but I never knew exactly what happened.
Glad that we got our record back to .500 though. Good/entertaining game. :handclap:
Osprey 10-29-2005, 08:43 AM Congrats on the win. It's so nice to see Selanne tearing it up. Most people doubted him before the season began. You sure got yourself a terrific bargain. 7 goals in 8 games for only $1M or so? That's incredible. Good to see the Ducks get back to .500.

"Perry left the game after taking what Carlyle called "a vicious hit to the head" on his first shift of the second period.
It was undetermined whether Perry suffered a concussion."
Do your job Brennan and Fedoruk. If Perry can't play his game without opposing players going head hunting then you two are useless.

Players like that generally aren't afraid of enforcers. If Drake were to play like a wuss every time the opposition has an enforcer on the roster, he'd only play tough about once every 10 games, and wouldn't be half the player he's been over his career. Same with guys like Tucker or Marchment or whoever. Guys like that aren't going to fight a heavyweight anyway, and I hardly think our goon fighting their goon is going to get Drake to say, "Oh, I better stop hitting."

In that case though one of them needs to go after him and lay him out. I didn't see the hits on Perry but if they were dirty (I heard he didn't touch the puck on either one but I've got the game Tivoed and will review it for my own viewing pleasure) then Brennan or Fedoruk or both need to be put out the next time Drakes steps on the ice and they need to crunch him, legally or not. Do that enough times and the bs stops.

I think you're kidding yourself. Guys like Drake are fearless, and won't back down just because they get hit themselves. I've seen guys like him get retaliatory cheap shots all the time, it makes no difference at all, they keep coming at you. It's their relentless nature that separates guys like that from the multitude of mediocre pesky players that populate the minors.
We can only hope that Konopka ends up half as fearless a player if he ever gets a callup. If he were to back down every time he got hit by an enforcer, then I'd send him packing to the AHL within a week, because he'd be useless more often than not.

Exactly. I never understood that logic.
lux_interior 10-29-2005, 05:11 PM A couple times during that game a team had a powerplay and drew another delayed penalty. They subsequently scored on the delayed call. But they released the guy who was in the penalty box, and the delayed call resulted in a 2 minute power play.
Does anyone know if that's part of the new rules, because I'm pretty sure that's not how they used to do it.
Spankatola Jamnuts 10-29-2005, 05:33 PM That's exactly how they used to do it. The goal applies to the oldest penalty.

Spankatola Jamnuts 10-30-2005, 01:21 AM This was a pretty damn rare situation in the old penalty calling system.
