golfmade 10-09-2003, 10:17 AM This will be a good game, luckily ESPN is replaying the game past midnight so i'll be able to watch it after I get off work. I'll say 4-2 Wings.
Vyacheslav 10-09-2003, 10:42 AM I'll say Detroit 2 Los Angeles 1
Detroit goals:
Zetterberg, Hull
Los Angeles goal:
Palffy
Always love seeing Hasek and Cechmanek play against one another.
zetterberg40 10-09-2003, 11:15 AM 4-2 detroit
zetterberg, draper, shanahan, hull
palffy, frolov
Looks like there's a strong possibility that the original "Two Kids and a Goat" line (Brett, Pavel and Boyd) may be back together. The chemistry worked before, is it still there?
Let's hope so...3-1 Wings. I'll say Shanny, Brett and Pasha.
Did you know that Shanny is the only active player who has scored two hat tricks on opening nights? That would be cool to make it three.

:yo: For sure! I'm wearing my Shanahan jersey today too, GO SHANNY!!!!! :yo:

I have three Wings jersys, but they all say Kozlov or Fedorov :(
I'll be wearing my Kozlov Therashers jersey. I'll be watching the Wings and either listening to the Thrashers on the radio or just following the live updates.
Fischer from Pasha and Brett  ...and how he got that through 3 Kings to get to Jiri I'll never know. I swear that puck must have had a laser sight on it.
Honey, you never cease to amaze me.
1-0 Wings at the end of one.
So the first goal goes to Fischer...who called it?

Hey, I actually did call Fischer in the 'Who will score the Wings first goal of the season?' thread. Wow, I am so happy we have hockey again...well, talk to you all second intermission! :)
Mr Sakich 10-09-2003, 03:44 PM is it halloween in detroit?
I see a lot of fans came dressed up as empty seats. What is up with that????
Vincent Vega 10-09-2003, 04:14 PM I read that the lines look like this on LetsGoWings.com:
Whitney - Zetterberg - Shanahan
Hull - Datsyuk - Maltby
Yzerman - Williams - Holmstrom
McCarty - Draper - Deveraux
Lidstrom - Hatcher
Chelios - Fischer
Schneider - Dandenault
Why the hell isnt Hudler playing? For you lucky ******** who get to watch tha game how is the Whitney - Zetterberg - Shanahan line look?
Not looking bad...and it didn't take long before two lines from last year were reunited...Henrik - Pasha - Brett and the Grinders were back together, and Cheli and Fisch are together too, and Dandenault and Nick. Falling back into place real nicely.

There are lots of empty seats at most games. I once sat with a group of people who stayed for the first 10 minutes then left to go hit the bars.
PASHA!!!
From Ray Whitney and Nicklas Lidstrom. That's two points for Pasha tonight...this just keeps getting better.
2-2 and I'm willing to bet we'll hit OT.
HOLY S**T!!! 1.7 to go and the Captain hits it! Oh Captain, my Captain! Talk about a heart stopper!
3-2 Wings!!!! WOO HOO!!!

Fox Player Of The Game !!!!
SlavaKozlov 10-09-2003, 05:09 PM WOW, what a finish!!! a goal and assist for Datsyuk, 2 assists for Whitney, the goal from Fischer I called (lol), and a sweet goal by Stevie with 1.7 seconds to go. Sergei who? lol, j/k about that...but seeing how he's played in Anaheim last night, I don't think we will miss him as much as people say we would have.
Vyacheslav 10-09-2003, 05:14 PM What a great game...
Pasha had a hell of a game and that yzerman goal with 1.7 seconds to go was just too perfect.
It was a lot of fun seeing Sean Avery again. That was funny when McCarty knocked him down.

If Datsyuk avoid injuries, he's a PPG EASY !!!
On another Zetterberg impress me on the PK tonight

I KNEW you'd love that! I'll argue with anyone who says he's hit the proverbial wall...WRONG!!!

I LOVE IT !!!
I want to live IN DETROIT DAMN !!!!
Well at least Im gonna have my single datsyuk experience LIVE every 2 years in MTL !!!
Hey the Wings should go in MTL every year. You dont need to watch the Habs, they are boring to watch.
PLEASE LET ME SEE DATSYUK EVERY YEAR , PLEASE !!!!
I think im gonna visit my godfather in Windsor, how much for ticket @ the Joe Louis ?
Turner 10-09-2003, 05:21 PM Fischer had one helluva game tonight. He scored a goal and was nasty to play against. He looked like HE was the anchor of the secound pairing.
It was a sweet win, but is anyone else alittle nervous about the lack chances 5-5? I hope that we don't have to survive on the power play this year.

You're not alone, but it was still the first night and some slack is deserved. The biggest problem I saw was the lack of chemistry. The only lines that really clicked tonight were the grind line and the occasionally re-united Z-Datsyuk-Hull line.
Hopefully, chemistry will be built in other lines throughout the season. But Lewis will have to leave a few of them together for that to happen...
Hasek looked good, though. Hatcher looked alright, and he does far more of the little things than I ever noticed before. Fault the guy for being a dirty player (which I do), but he's got serious game. He'll be worth the millions filling his wallet.
PigPen 10-09-2003, 05:34 PM I think im gonna visit my godfather in Windsor, how much for ticket @ the Joe Louis ?
I think the average ticket price at the Joe (if you can get 'em) are 56 dollars now. Highest avg. price in the entire season...
It amazes me that so many people who go to the games (usually in the lower bowl) and leave after showing up for only 15-20 minutes. There are a good deal of people that go to the bar downstairs inside the joe, but there are a lot of others who go there with their girlfriends or wives and leave outright.
...stinking yuppies.
It was kinda fun to see Sean Avery making a total pest of himself tonight...I was beginning to wonder if he was gonna get thrown out for being such a nuisance, but all in all it was a great heart-stopping game. I'm definitely staying up to watch the replay! I don't care if it's till 6AM - to see my Pasha it's worth it!
By the way, Anaheim lost again, 3-1 to Nashville...this is gonna be a long season in Duckville.
Murmansk16 10-09-2003, 06:16 PM I think on the defense, Fischer, Lidstrom, and Schneider looked good. Hatcher did not look good to me. He committed the turnover that led to the first Kings goal, and it wasn't his only turnover.
The forward lines were changed so much it was hard to judge them. Maltby looked completely lost on the Datsyuk line, so it was good to put him back on the grind line, where he looked good again.
I didn't see much offense at all from the Zetterberg-Shanny-Whitney line. Datsyuk's line was a little better, but none of the lines did very well five on five. I hope the Wings don't expect to live exclusively off the power play, because that isn't going to work.
The Wings won, which is nice, but the Kings aren't exactly a top of the line team without Allison, Deadmarsh, and Miller, not to mention Norstrom who went down in the first period.
The Wings need to get a lot better offensively.
zetterberg40 10-09-2003, 06:18 PM 2 pts from datsyuk already in the season, good way to start....
Go dats!

I missed the final 10 minutes of the game because I had to play hockey.
It looked pretty bleak until then, especially Hatcher.
Good to see a win, but damn, this team has issues, opening night victory or not,

Seriously Avery looked was hilarious out there. It looked like after he boarded Cheli, he started calling him a "girl". Least that was my guess. The refs were picking on him big time. That call against him on interfering with McCarty was a bit of a BS call. I guess Avery is making a name for himself the wrong way.
Still fun to watch him play though.
Fischer looked damn good out there. Not just the goal, but I saw him all over the ice (never has #8 looked so big in a Wings jersey) on defense making plays. He looks more confident out there than I remember him looking in 2001.
I really wanted to see Hudler play tonight... guess you can't have everything. A Stevie Y game winner is good enough.
Nice win! Yzerman scores the winner, sweet! Hasek seemed ok.
There is one thing more I like... ice time. The forward with mist ice time against LA is.... Henrik Zetterberg. Like I predicted in another thread, no Red Wing forward with +20 minutes.

I look at that image, and realize.
Shanny did play last night!
It was the only time he was seen at all, lol
JustWingIt19 10-10-2003, 07:58 AM Great ending to a decent game
Fischer looked good. I'd much rather see him on the 2nd PP unit than Hatcher for now.
Derian looks a little out of place. But thats expected. It might take a little bit before we see what Hatch can really bring to the ice.
Whitney looks like he is already feeling it.
Shanny didn't do much, same with McCarty. D-Mac needs to step up his game. This 20 points a year crap cant cut it.
Jason Williams has a nice shot, and looks alot faster this year.
Oh yeah, Devereaux is useless.
PigPen 10-10-2003, 09:04 AM After watching the Anaheim/Dallas game wednesday and seeing the highlights of the 3-1 loss to Mashville last night, I'm really glad that the wings' picked up Whitney instead of Prospal.
Whitney looked a lot faster out there than the people on this board give him credit for, and when playing the point on the PP he looked good on the left side. We finally have somebody who can set Lidstrom up for 1-timers on the right side again.
Hatcher didn't look so bad out there. It definately wasn't a great game for him, but I also wasn't pulling my hair out whenever he touched the ice. I'm expecting a slow start for him but a very strong finish.
Until the last 30 seconds of the game, I thought Shanahan was scratched or benched. Did he even touch the puck last night? He usually starts out very strong for the wings'.
The grind line, although they looked good last night, need to try scoring a bit more rather than cycling the puck along the boards for 45 seconds then heading back to the bench. It pissed me off seeing how many times McCarty and Maltby had chances to take a good shot at Cechmanek but just passed the puck along the boards.
Zetterburg played quite a bit when Palffy was on the ice and on the PK. He had an excellent defensive game, which I'm satisfied with even if he didn't get any points.
What I didn't understand in the game was, why the hell was L.A. trying to trap when it was tied? It's like they weren't even trying for the win. Time for them to get a new coach?
EDIT: Ditto on the devereaux is useless quote. I'd also like to say the same about Dandeneault.
TomHBlain 10-10-2003, 01:54 PM I look at that image, and realize.
Shanny did play last night!

Didnt shanny play on a line with Zetterberg, and Whitney most of the night? I remember seeing 14,40, and 41 all at the same time.

I think so yeah.
Yes he did, as a matter of fact, but you know, in a way, it was nice to see some other faces step up their games last night...like Fisch and Ray Whitney and especially Pavel. Man, that guy wreaked havoc on my adrenalin levels last night...what new tricks has he got up his sleeve for the Sens?
