Bergeron debuts

Patrice Bergeron made his NHL debut in the game, and was more than just a bit player. He saw both penalty kill and power play time in the third period, with the game on the line.

“Yeah, I can’t believe it,” said Bergeron. “I’m happy that Mike has showed confidence in me and has given me some ice time.

“I like playing on the power play and I got the chance, but you have to deserve it, so I have to always try to improve.”

Sullivan said he was only rewarding Bergeron for the way he has played since he arrived at rookie camp.

“He’s played very well and earned the right to make this team,” said Sullivan. “One of the things about him is that I think he has real good awareness for someone his age. We feel real comfortable putting him over the boards in critical situations. He has real good awareness and a good understanding of the game and that allows him to be an effective penalty killer and play well in his own end. That’s why you saw him out there.”

It does not look very good for him back to Bathurst so far following Sullivan's public comments after opening night when the pressure was at the peak on Bergeron. My guess is that he will play better after a few games behind him.
What a story of success!
I don't remember reading any better comments from a coach after Bouchard breaking the Wild's lineup at 18.

I doubt he's going back once the decision was made to sign him.

Its happened a lot.

Girard, Ribiero, Coliacovo were all returned. There have been others but i cant remember them all.

Stajan, once a couple leafs come back from injuries, should be sent back to the OHL.

Bergeron is not coming back to Bathurst. He is playing 14-15 minutes per game lately and has 1 goal and 5 assists in 7 games so far this season, which makes him the LEADING ROOKIE IN THE NHL SO FAR.
Bravo Patrice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
