Brodeur / Colin White

Brodeur tonight prooved to everyone that he is DEFINATELY still an elite goaltender even behind a "mediocre" defense.

I was at the game tonight and am pretty unbiased when it comes to the Devils. Man alive was Brodeur stunning. He's the only reason that you guys won and were in the game. Anyone else, IMO, and it would've been a different story. Absolutely ROBBED Jagr a few times.

The one thing I noticed is this: Has Colin White prooved to be just completely useless? I don't think there was a worse player on the ice for either team than him tonight. He's absolutely awful with the new rules and all he does is stand around now and look stupid. Never was a fan of his to begin with, but man does he look dreadful and the crowd definately gave it to him.

But man, I still love watching Marty play. It's a treat I get to see him so often. Even being a Ranger fan I can still appreciate.

White really impressed with some nice long passes he made. That was the aspect of his game that was lacking, and he really snapped off some really long breakout passes.

Malaknob is awful. White being paired with this guy is hurting his game. They are both -3.

McGillis is the one who should be getting 3.6 mill a year, not Malaknob

Malakhov is solid.

Malakhov is solid.Thank you. Malakhov shouldn't be getting paid $3.6 million, but he has been solid for us. I do wish our defensemen would get some balls, block some shots and/or clear out the garbage in front of Brodeur. That being said, I do feel that the Devils defense will improve in time. These guys are still learning each other's tendancies. Playing defense is a partnership, and I just don't see the complete confidence in our pairings yet. Wondering what your defensive partner is doing causes hesitation, and hesitation is leading to scoring chances. In time, these things will work themselves out.

I don't know if it's a bright spot in our schedule, but our Flyers matchups are all backloaded toward the second half of the season. Hopefully by then we will have some better chemistry on our defensive pairings.

On a more positive note, I think he is taking on some of the responsibilities that Stevens had when he was here. It is probably more of the latter than the former, but anything to make White a better player is good news for all of us.

White has played quite well. My only problem with Whitey is that he does not belong on the PP. I know the Devils do not believe in putting a forward at the point, however, I rather see someone like Maddog man the point on the second PP pairing.

The problem with our defense is that there is little chemistry. Only white and Malakhov have played together. The rest are not only unsure about their playing partner but they are unsure about the rules. We will see after 10 or so games who hasn't steped up.

Colin White is like an every other year player in sports. He has one good season and one bad season. His upside is when he controls his attitude and plays disciplined he is a Top 4 defenceman on a roster. He is also 26 which is still a very young member of a very veteran defensive squad. He is also liked by Larry Robinson and had his best season with his defensive partner (Malakhov) of current. He might be dealt when Elias returns because Hale is ready to step up and take over for White and his $1.7 million salary.

Who can forget Whitey's hit on Forsberg, that was a Stevens-esque hit, pure beaut.

Malakhov IS solid.

Until around 20 games in when he just loses all caring. Been that way his whole career and I think he is one of top 10 or 15 most skilled defenseman ever. But skill, we all know, doesn't make up for a complete lack of heart.

I used to love watching White. He was one of my favorite players and I can safely say I really don't have any bias against the Debbies. But man did he look bad last night. And it seemed everyone else in the stands noticed this also. He was out of position like crazy and got burned a few times by the faster players. The people were really letting him have it, at least in my section (241 -- where I always sit for Debbies games since I LOVE the nasty vibe you get sitting there).

What's the story on Hale? Been hearing mixed reports from some friends in Albany who seem to think he's regressed a bit without getting a real chance in the line-up lately. I liked the kid but never thought he'd be a huge player (a solid 3/4, but I guess that's what he was drafted as anyways).

Martin is ****ing incredible also. What a pick he was.

Regressed? Hale was probably our best defensmen in preseason. He only played one game in Albany so far so I don't know how they came up with that conclussion. If they are talking about last year Hale battled his livre problem and wasn't able to work out during that stretch so its possible but Hale has not regressed.

I was talking about last season since I know the AHL is only one game in. Didn't know he had a liver problem, though.

The only person who seemed to handle Jagr and the only person who nailed him hard in the corner was White. He had an excellent game on saturday.

I think someone might be moved to make room for Hale at some point though because he did have an excellent pre-season.

I think technically its a kidney problem not a liver one. Something to do with them shutting down and not working properly.

#3 for the rangers was the worst defenseman? he holds the puck for way too long.

That's Rozsival. To be honest, I thought he looked good on Saturday aside from that one interference penalty he took.

But yes, he's not exactly great out there. So yeah.

On White...while he was solid Saturday, he got away with some holds a few times. In the future, he might get called for that.

I saw Hale in Albany all of last year (when he was healthy), and I thought he played well, especially coming back from the kidney ailment he had.
