The Devils need to rebound from the disappointing second half showing last night in Philadelphia. The Devils let a 2-0 lead disappear as they lost their first road game 5-2.
The Rangers enter the day atop the Atlantic Division with a 1-0-1 record, one point ahead of New Jersey and Philadelphia. The Rangers had Friday off after coming back late in their contest with Montreal to earn a point for the regulation tie.
The Devils have an all-time record of 59-53-21 against the Rangers.

Blackjack 10-08-2005, 01:08 PM Game plan
1. Run Weekes [or Lundqvist if that's who's starting]
2. Beat the piss out of anyone who runs Marty
3. Hook, obstruct, and hold
4. Get phantom goal
Hey, it worked for the Flyers.
ftyutin51 10-08-2005, 01:20 PM Weird, the goal myseteriously disappeared?
I didn't see the Flyers game but if the statements are true by Larry Robinson, etc. then the referees have better get a closer look at how penalties are called and call every single one of them. Though Lundqvist(supposedly starting tonight) isn't a elite goalie like Brodeur, I wouldn't want Gionata, Gomez, Kozlov, etc. running into him, like the Flyers so called did on Brodeur and didn't get penalized for it. Anyhoos, I just hope Parise doesn't light us up. ;) :(
I predict:
3-5 Devils Win.
1. Martin Rucinsky
2. Scott Gomez
3. Brian Gionta
4. Sergei Brylin
5. Jaromir Jagr
6. Petr Prucha
7. Brian Rafalski
8. Jamie Langenbrunner
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 01:57 PM I'm a liitle worried about tonights game, the Rangers have plenty of talent on the first 2 lines, but it's been their 3rd & 4th line that have been playing excellent hockey.
Jared Ramsden 10-08-2005, 02:04 PM I read that Lundqvist is getting his first NHL start today. Hopefully the Devils will make it a memorable one.... by scoring a ton of goals :snide:
Baron Von Shark 10-08-2005, 02:46 PM Is Brodeur starting?
DevilFisch 10-08-2005, 03:03 PM I would think so. The Devils need to bounce back after a crushing loss and they'll need Brodeur (not Clemenssen) to do so.
I predict a 3-0 win for the Devils. First (of...let's say eight for now) shutouts for Marty.
You all know, in my heart, I really want a 10-0 destruction of the Rangers; but I think 3-0 will be more likely. Well, more likely than that.
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 03:32 PM I know Larry backed his team and especially Marty in the papers. However, behind closed doors, I hope he kicked some butt, because Lord knows they deserved it for last night's performance, phantom goal or not!
Ronnie Bass 10-08-2005, 05:14 PM Is Brodeur starting?
Marty usualy starts a bunch of games at the beginning of the season before he sits one out and I do mean a bunch of games too.
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-08-2005, 05:28 PM The league is really doggin us again by making us play back to back nights. After playing a tough team like phili last night, we now have to play a powerhouse like the Rangers??
unfair. :biglaugh:
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-08-2005, 05:29 PM Is Fedor Federov playing tonight? That was an awful trade for NYR. As good as the HOssa move was, trading Balej for Fedor was just plain stupid.
borrachon 10-08-2005, 06:54 PM Is Fedor Federov playing tonight? That was an awful trade for NYR. As good as the HOssa move was, trading Balej for Fedor was just plain stupid.
FedFed has the perfect Ranger attitude, he'll fit in well.
Fire Sather 10-08-2005, 07:09 PM FedFed has the perfect Ranger attitude, he'll fit in well.
Ugh, will it ever stop? :shakehead :shakehead
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-08-2005, 07:52 PM Ugh, will it ever stop? :shakehead :shakehead
dont worry man, your team is much improved over years past. Those guys atleast work hard. You should be proud of that. The arrow is going up for you guys, not down anymore.
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 07:57 PM No disrespect to the Rangers, but I wish we were playing the Flyers back to back. Man, last night's game still bothers me.
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 08:48 PM Ward gets the first goal of the game.
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-08-2005, 08:54 PM NO GOAL!
just kidding. now that goal i dont have a problem with.
ratsgirl 10-08-2005, 09:03 PM what is it now...12-13 minutes without a shot on goal? this lack of effort is pretty pathetic.
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 09:08 PM Kozlov evens it up.
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 09:17 PM Very disappointing 1st period even if the score is tied. Got totally outworked and outplayed. Also, Gomez and Lagenbrunner look disinterested. And the 4th line looks like a total waste... Started off were they left off last night.
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-08-2005, 09:18 PM outplayed, outworked, outhustled, outclassed. Yet our lazyest forward gets our goal. This is disgraceful. I know they played last night in phili, but c'mon?
The devils deserve to lost this game with there horrible effort.
I'm already getting tired of Vlad Malkhov. I never liked him 2000, and really dont like him now.
Disgraceful
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 09:46 PM Rucinsky with the go ahead PP goal.
Main Devil 10-08-2005, 10:00 PM WOW just go in. Where is the Devils offense less than 10 shots on goal for them mid way through the 2nd period while the Rangers have over 20.
Devils offense if weak so far in two nights back to back.
Heat McManus 10-08-2005, 10:20 PM How is McGillis playing? I was at the opener and saw most of the game last night and I was not impressed. Constant mishandling on the PP. Much rather have Hale on the big club and a 4th foward ar the point on the PP
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 10:28 PM After the way they played in the opener, their play from last night and tonight is quite disappointing. As well as their discipline.
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 10:34 PM Devils looking better in the 3rd period.
3rd Period
New Jersey 2:14, Alexander Mogilny 2 (power play) (Scott Gomez, Brian Rafalski)
A_Mack17 10-08-2005, 10:40 PM what the hell? is nhl.com stuffing up the shot count? 26-12 rangers
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 10:42 PM what the hell? is nhl.com stuffing up the shot count? 26-12 rangers
I believe thats accurate actually!
devils1983 10-08-2005, 10:45 PM I believe thats accurate actually!
Whooo Hoooo!!! We've hit double digits in shots.
A_Mack17 10-08-2005, 10:45 PM are they really playing poorly? looks like marty is haveing a good game atleast!
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 10:51 PM are they really playing poorly? looks like marty is haveing a good game atleast!
They got off to a really slow start tonight. The passing wasn't so hot earlier, there were some bad breaks, plenty of Devils penalties, and the chemistry looked suspect on a lot of lines. They are crashing the net now (Parise and Martin not too long ago) and Larry Robinson has been mixing up the lines.
A_Mack17 10-08-2005, 10:59 PM thanks for the info! i really wish I could watch these games, you guys are so lucky!
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 11:12 PM Rafalski scores to end it. Brodeur made some great saves late in the game to keep his team in this one.
Olorin 10-08-2005, 11:14 PM Excellent game by Brodeur. Exciting game overall.
dkball7 10-08-2005, 11:15 PM Wow I'm happy.
What a great play by Kozzy tho, finally using his shot/size in this game.
Brooklyndevil 10-08-2005, 11:15 PM Stars of the game: Rafalski - Marty - Kozlov
Dog of the game: Gomez
I also thought White - Martin - Malikov played well. Bring back Hale!
Devils played one good period and 2 bad ones, they got lucky.
FLYLine24 10-08-2005, 11:17 PM Good game guys...anytime the Rangers can come out of NJ with at least a point its a plus. Marty was god-like for you guys.
Devilsfanatic 10-08-2005, 11:18 PM C'mon, where are the Kozlov bashers? 4 points, 3 games  Also, keep dissing Marty
A_Mack17 10-08-2005, 11:20 PM WOOHOO :yo: Rafalski! got him on my fantasy team too!
Main Devil 10-08-2005, 11:34 PM Tonight is a Marty night.
Brian is a star for the Devils, we will be proud of him this season.
Inconsistent play MUST stop.
JimEIV 10-09-2005, 12:36 AM I'm really dissapointed in the Devils team so far this year..........I don't believe it is a Personal problem, I believe it is a coaching problem.
The amount of penalties the Devils are taking is Nuts......Langenbrunner would be benched and in the Doghouse if I was the coach. I believe he has 10 minutes in the last two games.
The devils, while on offense are playing a perimeter game......For the most part only Gionta and Parise have been going to the net.
The Powerplay lacks any creativity. McGillis, Martin and Malakhov have great shots that aren't being used. Mogilny is the featured player on the PP and that is it.....Our defense should be taking more booming shots, and guys like Langenbrunner, Gionta, Brylin and Parise should be buzzing the net, but these guys aren't even given a chance, the whole PP philosophy is get Mogilny the puck.
***********************************
The thing that concerns me is I don't see correction coming from the bench. Granted I'll give a pass because it is only 3 games, but to much more of this and I'll be chanting "Robbie, Robbie........" Ftorek!
Edit: On a good note: I thought Colin White was very good tonight.
NYIsles1* 10-09-2005, 12:41 AM Did anyone actually see this game on FSN2? TWC in New York is supposed to be channel 51 for FSN2 and the game was not televised as advertised. All they had was worthless Crispino and J.D on Msg.

Right on the money, Parise and Brian are the only two guys that got to the net constantly. As for Kozlov, he woke up in the third period, although he scored that earlier goal, but must show more of that type of play he displayed in the third. And I agree, Langs should have been benched, especially after taking the unsportsmenship penalty. And I hope Gomer isn't going to pull another bad half, good half season. Like I said, we got lucky tonight. p.s. Excellent game for Whitey.
Blackjack 10-09-2005, 02:34 AM So are we supposed to go on the Rangers board and troll like the Phlyers fans last night? :dunno:
ftyutin51 10-09-2005, 03:04 AM So are we supposed to go on the Rangers board and troll like the Phlyers fans last night? :dunno:
I'd like to see that. NYR fans vs NJD fans.. which pack would win in a fight? :sarcasm: :D
Good game. I had two predictions come out true. Martin Rucinsky scored so did Brian Rafalski.
David Puddy 10-09-2005, 09:30 AM Maybe the trick to winning in the new NHL is to play poorly for the first period and a half or two periods to get a win.
The Penguins had a clear edge over the Devils on opening night for 10 minutes of
The Flyers dominated the Rangers on opening night and lost.
The Devils dominated the Flyers for the first half of their contest and lost.
And the Rangers dominated the Devils for two periods last night, but the Devils won.
I Hate Tie DOMI 10-09-2005, 01:26 PM outplayed, outworked, outhustled, outclassed. Yet our lazyest forward gets our goal. This is disgraceful. I know they played last night in phili, but c'mon?
Kozlov has been one of our better forwards.
If I had to rank them based on the 3 games I saw it would be like this
Best
1. Madden (if only he could finish the scoring chances he creates.)
2. Kozlov
3. Parise
4. Brylin
5. Gionta
Worst
1. Marshall
2. Gomez
3. Langenbrunner
DevilFisch 10-09-2005, 04:49 PM I had to go out, so I taped this game (on FSN2 with Doc and Chico. I get DirecTV so I know little about the realm of cable).
To reduce the jarring disparity in shots for/against, the Devils need to A) block more shots and B) have less of their own shots blocked. Martin Brodeur has always been the key to success for NJ, but it may be moreso this season than past ones.
And this game is also demonstrating that the Gionta-Parise-Kozlov is (somehow) the top line in getting chances and playing in the offensive zone. Kozlov is playing well, and I would rather trade Matvichuk (who has been a non-factor in...3 games now?) instead of VK so far.
