Devilsfanatic 10-05-2005, 11:27 PM The only reason he's good is because of the offense in front of him :sarcasm:
After tonights performance (looking at stats he's faced the most rubber tonight) it's easy to see why we always drool over this guy.
Unthinkable 10-05-2005, 11:40 PM Marty would be nothing without Super Jay Pandolfo on offense. Its all smoke and mirrors I say!
borrachon 10-05-2005, 11:48 PM He let in a goal tonight, Jesus Luongo didn't, therefore Brodeur is a much worse goalie! Heck I can think of a dozen goalies better than him, let's trade him for a prospect or two...that would also fix the cap situation!
dedalus 10-05-2005, 11:49 PM The "Brodeur-is-over-rated" argument is old and pathetic; it has been for the last half decade. I'd like to think that the loss of the Devils' top two defensemen will change things and put an end to this sorry whining by Devil haters, but I expect that new excuses will be made.
So it goes.

Did you see the list of goalies that one poster submitted the other day who were all supposed to be better then Brodeur? I was absolutely speechless when I read his list. He was serious. I mean like serious as a heart attack when he hit the submit reply button. Man oh man! He had a bunch of guys who have one seasons worth of experience on there LOL!

I have played goalie for several years and I don't judge goalies on stats, but how I see them play, how they make saves, how they move in the net. I look at how aggressive and reflexive, how quick on skates goalies are in the NHL. I watch how goalies decide to play the puck, how well they are at holding rebounds. There are many factors that come into play when judging a goalie, not just their stats, and even more horribly their wins. I don't disagree that Brodeur will be in the hall of fame, but I see better goalies out there in the NHL. Sorry if you don't like that.

borrachon 10-06-2005, 12:02 AM And honestly, Brodeur just has a horrible butterfly...it's so bad, it almost looks like he isn't even a butterfly goalie.

Oh right, I could have named all the AHL and ECHL and OHL goalies too, but I was like, naaaaaaah, this is long enough.

One wonders what organization he scouts for. Surely with credentials like those he must be some team's Director of Player Development or something.
I wish more non-Devils fans like you could leave their nature biased hatred at the door when it comes to Marty and the Devils for that matter, good show dedalus.
I just calls 'em as I sees 'em, my friend. There are few organizations more worthy of respect than the Devils' and few goalies more worthy of it than Brodeur.
(Of course if Stephane Matteau hadn't beaten Marty lo those many years ago, all bets would be off regarding my good natured response. ;) )
Good or not, the love-fest from the fans is a bit sickening. Shots off the glass gets Brodeur standing O's and "marty" chants.

Awww, a put off Ranger fan.
Your team beat the Flyers, go celebrate.

Give me a break! They're not supposed to cheer their best player? Get over it.
How can anyone be a hockey fan, or a fan of any sport for that matter, and not appreciate the skill of players on teams other than their own. For God's sake, I'm a Ranger fan, I wouldn't be able to survive without watching a good team play every now and then. Although I guess I shouldn't say that now seeing as they won their first game, we'll see how long that lasts.
Dipper McGee 10-06-2005, 10:36 AM The truth is, every team in the NHL (besides NJ) would love to have this guy between the pipes.
He is underrated and not shown the respect he deserves by ALOT of people.
Habsaku 10-06-2005, 10:51 AM People are pathetic, Brodeur is the most versatile goaltender in the league and thats also what makes him the best. Hes top with high number of shots, he's top with low number of shots(which is the hardest thing to do for a goalie), he's top with a great defense and a bad defense. He doesnt need a lot of offense, he's like a third defensemen, he can makes some amazing passes. he plays like the best of them under pressure and he always seems cool and composed. People who think he's overrated do not watch him, they judge him with pathetic arguments and ignorance. The jealousy on these boards is ridiculous, the very idea that a guy like Khabibulin or Joseph couldve won all those cups with NJ is ridiculous. The fact is, in almost the same number of years, Patrick Roy and Ed Belfour who had been considered better goalies then Brodeur won less cups while having better teams on paper. Brodeur is set to break every record in the book, you dont do that by luck :shakehead .Theres only one team in the league who's based their entire system around the skill of their goalie, and it aint Florida.

Thank you!! I agree!! Most of you are morons!! It's always the same lame argument!! Are we supposed to applogize that we have great defense? that's B/S!!! Bunch of haters up in here that's all!! Martin is one of the best goalies out there and if one of the days he'll end up on one of your teams, you all be down on your knees doing you know what.....
So stop the B/S and get back to watching your team lose :yo:
Ziggyjoe21 10-06-2005, 04:32 PM As a penguin fan, I hate the devils, but respect Marty. A great defense does help alot, but the goalie still has to stop the puck. Broduer is pretty much a lock for the HOF and arguably the best goalie of all time. That sad, F the devils and F broduer for standing on his head last night. :propeller :)

hmmm. ill take this as a compliment- "F" you too :sarcasm:
loser99 10-07-2005, 12:43 AM wow I was at the game 8th row front and to the side of Brodeurs net. His performance was absolutely mind blowing in the first 10 minutes. He killed of 5+ penalties (all those big teams are taking alot of hook/interference calls), and was not out of position once the entire game. He also made 3 or 4 really nice outlet passes. I really hope he had the shutout. They could have lost the game early on if it werent for Marty.

How about that, I also sat in the 8th row and directly behind Marty, section 101.

I ****ing love the Devils and Brodeur. IMO, over the last 10 years the Devils are the best TEAM ( and always playa team game) in the NHL.
And anyone who doesn't give them respect is very much mistaking.

I think that was Brodeur's goalie double in tonight :D
David Puddy 10-07-2005, 10:09 PM I think that was Brodeur's goalie double in tonight :DHe looked really good for the first half of the game. He made a nice save on Gange after the Fleyr made a nice move. A few seconds later, Gagne scored during the chaos in front of the crease. After the interference goal, Brodeur looked bad. He shouldn't have let in the Sim goal, and he certainly shouldn't have let in the Stevenson goal.
David Puddy 10-07-2005, 10:22 PM Luongo is gunning for Brodeur's king of the goaltender title with his second straight shutout. This time it 27 saves against Tampa Bay.

Yup, He's going to win the stanley cup with half his team injured, facing 100+ shots, and scoring 60 goals during the playoffs. Oh and ofcourse shutouts all the way through.
Unthinkable 10-08-2005, 07:15 PM http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/columnist/allen/2005-10-07-allen-brodeur-still-the-best_x.htm
If you dress Brodeur in boots and gym shorts, and only allow him only to use a baseball glove and a whisk broom, he is still going to be the best goalie in the world. He's still going to be New Jersey's superstar.
Right before the season started, when everyone in hockey was struggling to make preseason predictions because so many variables had changed, a general manager offered what now seems like perfect analysis.
"Follow the goaltending," he said.
The conclusion we should be reaching here is that the more difficult we make it for goalkeepers, the more we are going to realize how talented these guys are. Goaltending might be even more appreciated. With any luck, this season we will be discussing goalies again, rather than defensive systems. Maybe the phrase "neutral zone trap" will be stricken from our vocabulary.
Whether that happens or not, we do know that the "big" save" is going to be back in style.
What the GM was saying when he said "Follow the goaltending" is that even if we score 1,000 more goals, Brodeur and the other premium netminders are going to be difference makers, maybe even more than they were before the lockout.
mcphee 10-09-2005, 04:25 PM Did I actually read someone who due to his beer league goaltending experience, feels qualified to opine that Patrick Lalime is a better goalie than Martin Brodeur? Nah, I'm dreaming. Gotta stop eating begore going to bed.
