Why isn't Elias on IR?

According to nhl.com, Elias is not on the opening day roster (obviously because of his illness), but neither is he been placed on Injured Reserve. Is there any reason for this? I have him on my fantasy roster and was hoping to stash him on IR and pick up a stopgap in the meantime, but now I'm concerned...

Anyone know?

NHL.com's little list also neglects Jussi Markkenen, and Chistobal Huet

not sure, but perhaps because he has not been cleared to play this year so they do not need to list him

for example, same issue with Majesky and the Caps

or perhaps because NHL.com has a typo? They do list 23 NJ players and they are the 23 on the active roster.

That's what I was hoping, but there must be something else to it, because on Yahoo! Sports (which is where I play fantasy hockey) he's not listed on IR either, while other players, such as Valeri Bure are already marked...

but Bure is a different situation

1) he is listed on IR on the NHL.com list the original question references

2) didn't he pass his physical and practice with the team before getting hurt?

I know he was listed on the nhl.com list. I was just using him as an example to show that Yahoo! has already started putting people on their lists.

Does a player have to pass a physical before going on IR? The sportswriters seemed to think Elias would start the season there, which is why I was wondering if something happened to change that (i.e. maybe he's coming back earlier than November, or maybe He has some other issues that are preventing him from joining the team?) Anything that could help me out is greatly appreciated...
