Over the Cap?

For some reason I heard that NJ was still over the cap after the Jeff Friesen trade...i'm going to assume that's false otherwise I would have heard about it all over the place...how close are they? If they arent over the cap I'm assuming they are close and could be in trouble if an injury occurs...how many players are under contract?
i'm not sure how serious Elias' disease is but should he come back this year they would be in quite serious trouble in terms of trying to stay under the cap?

Not that serious. Move a forward to open up a spot for Elias, move a defensemen to open up a spot for Hale. Easy, quick, puts us back under the cap. Simple as that.

Plus, Lou even said that he had a plan in mind for Elias' return.

Expect him back around Thanksgiving.

The Devils are over the cap and will have to start forfeiting games starting tonight. Lou blew it. The cap watchers were right.

I'm very temped to over to the Trade Rumor board and say "OMFG you guys were right!!!! LL did screw up and now because of his lack of foresight we have lost the services of one of our greatest warriors in Jeff Friesen!!!! WHY GOD!!?? WHY??!!??!!??!!"

I'm skeptical when the news media claims to know the exact figures, but this article says the 23 man roster payroll is $38,873,330, not including Elias' salary (4.18 M). So Lou apparently did know what he was doing. Go figure.

Yeah Really! Remember the trade proposals for Gomez, Brodeur and Elias.........and how they weren't unreasonable because no way could the Devils get everyone under the cap :biglaugh:

Remember how the Malakhov signing was going to force us to loose Elias or Gomez?

Or the more reasonable people who were saying we were going to "have waive at least 3 players" to make up the 5+Million overage that TSN and NHLPA were reporting. Funny thing is when Friesen got traded for a pick(Lou could have not qualified, instead we got something), the people who said "have waive at least 3 players", got on the boards and said see we were right.......what a bunch of yum-yums

And the best part of the Friesen trade is that posters like spongebob, the poster with the Burger King avatar and the Flyers clown with the Toronto/Sadam avatar have all gone south for at least until Elias is about to return!

Funny Funny

It was and still is amazing to me that so many people got concerned about this nonsense with the Cap. Granted Lou made a mistake with Madden and Rafalski a few years back regarding their salaries.

But to think Lou would screw up with the Cap is just crazy and insane to even waste a key stroke about it. He must have at least 6 people with calculators figuring out the numbers just like every GM. A GM should be fired if he or she screwed up the Cap number.

I say Buddha Lou and toodle loo to all the doubters who wasted their summers camping out with their ears to doors of the NJD front office fruitlessly searching for disaster.

The buddha sits under the lotus tree and lets the world come to him.
