It came down to Madden or Elias, I say give your best player the captaincy, Madden with an A, and Gomez (possibly even Pandalfo or Brylin) with the other.
But is it a bad idea to have all 3 listed as fwds, or is that irrelevant? If they want a dman, I say Matvichuk is the best suited, going back from his days as a Star.

I say Madden then. Too bad you cant make your goalie the C, Marty would be the best.

Elias doesn't know how long he's going to be out and that's the problem. It could be 6 weeks or it could be 6 months.
Honestly, I think the captain should represent the identity of the team. Even though Elias is far and away our best skater, I think Madden is more representative of the team philosophy.

I don't think the team offered it to him. The press asked him about it and he said he would be honored, but that it wouldn't be fair to give it him since he'll be out for a while. He definitely wants it, he was thilled when he was made an alternative. When Jagr said he didn't want to be NYR captain because of the language barrier, Elias said he didn't believe it would be a problem for him. I think Elias should get it. He's earned it, he's a leader on the ice and often carries the offense. Plus, he's a sentimental guy and will be a UFA this summer, it could only help encourage him to stay.

I personally think John Madden should be the captain. He's a guy that gets down and dirty, though cleanly, when he plays. His desire cannot be questioned.
However, I do think Patrik Elias is an intelligent player who would also make a very good captain.

If Madden was going to be the captain, why not name him now?
Elias will be the captain, Madden and Rafalski will be the Alternates.
