Main Devil 10-04-2005, 08:05 AM Why Boooooooooooooooooo???????????
4check22 10-04-2005, 08:12 AM Why Boooooooooooooooooo???????????Hale should be on the Devils roster. Brown should go down to Albany.
devsfan8 10-04-2005, 08:58 AM Hale should be on the Devils roster. Brown should go down to Albany.
I know. I cannot believe Hale did not make the roster. He had such a great preseason. Hale is only 24 and I think his play will prompt Lou to trade a defenceman in the cap shed deal of 06.
It is safe to assume his kidney ailment is in remission and he is completely healthy. Hale earned a spot.

Hale will be back after we trade a defenceman to get under for Elias. It would have been a waste to keep him as out #7.
So is Ahonen presently on waivers?

I agree. When Elias returns, so will Hale, I think.
David Puddy 10-04-2005, 10:58 AM Brown is a little cheaper, and he can play wing in a pinch. If someone is injured longterm, then David Hale will move up and be put in the starting lineup.
It is safe to assume his kidney ailment is in remission and he is completely healthy. Hale earned a spot. There is no known cure for IgA nephropathy. It will likely strike Hale again, and it could become worse. He had in early 2003 and early 2005. I don't know if this disorder regularly strikes those with the disorder two year pattern.
David Puddy 10-04-2005, 11:10 AM I guess they didn't sign Albelin. :dunno:According to the notes at the end of an article about Mogilny linked by Devilsfanatic, "Mogilny Says He's Not Ready (http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051004/SPORTS01/510040317/1108/SPORTS01)," Albelin has not been signed, at least not yet. I would think he's not going to be signed.Tommy Albelin, an unrestricted free agent who was in camp with the Devils, had not been signed as of yesterday afternoon.
Main Devil 10-04-2005, 12:28 PM Exactly, Hale comes back when Elias comes back in the meantime he is playing everyday instead on in a suit and he is not involved with waviers penalties.
So Noooooooo Booooooooooo
JimEIV 10-04-2005, 01:06 PM Hale EARNED a position with the Devils in my opinion.
Main Devil 10-04-2005, 01:10 PM It wasn't about earning a position, Lou and Larry agree with you, but someone had to go to Albany and someone had to sit in the stands in a suit. It's better having him play. Then there is the waiver issue, they will probably dump Brown when Elias comes back and Hale will be available without risk to the Devils.
Buya89 10-04-2005, 06:09 PM Hale should be on the Devils roster. Brown should go down to Albany.
Brown should play in ECHL. :shakehead
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-04-2005, 06:18 PM our 99' 00' 01' first rounds picks are all in the minors. Not good. Yet Rheume and Sean Brown are up with the big team. WHY?????

Ahonen needs game action to develop, playing 8 games a season won't cut it.
Foster didn't earn a spot on the team, looked lost in preseason games.
Hale needs to play, he will be back when someone is traded.

Jason is right, the kids need to play to develop.
I have no problem with the defensemen on the rosters, it's the forwards that scare me. With Elias is out, they have two extra forwards. Oliwa is a borderline NHLer and Langdon missed preseason with a injury so Larry has no way to gauge just how horrifically bad he is now. I'm shocked and disappointed that both these goons are still on the roster.
They can't waive Langdon and dig up some cheap Jiri Bisek-type player? It's not just Mogilny we have to worry about, Langenbrunner and Marshall both have a history of injuries. I'd rather they dress Brown as a foward than make Oliwa anything close to an everyday player. :speechles
Oliwa's stats (which are even worse than I thought)

Langdon's stats

Unthinkable 10-04-2005, 07:59 PM Oliwa's a much better forward then Sean Brown was back when Robbie Ftorek tried that failed experiment in Boston. At least he'll throw some hits, can fight, pass, and fills the intimidating physical forward void legitimately.
The positive for David Hale is his GM had some nice praise for him after he made a bold statement to Larry Robinson and the rest of the team in preseason and he's in no way being punished unfairly in being given quality regular ice time in the AHL. Disappointing for sure, but I don't think it will be long before he's back up with the Devils where he belongs. In terms of not rushing his development, this is a good thing erroring on the side of cautiousness. He should be even hungrier for NHL action when he gets his first callup and hopefully is ready to play a much more physical game for NJ this season. Anything he brings in terms of offense will be icing on the cake in my eyes.
If this is the last of Tommy Albelin as a player for the Devils, I want to acknowledge his incredible loyalty to the organization over the years and thank him once again for his solid play in the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs most recently. Says a lot about the kind of quality and competitive person he is attending the last two preseason tryouts without a contract in place. All the best to you Tommy wherever your career takes you next if this truly is your final swan song in the NHL. You handled yourself quite well along with Ken Daneyko against a very fast skating Ottawa Senators team in the twilight of your career. Cheers.
Jared Ramsden 10-04-2005, 09:51 PM Hale will be back after we trade a defenceman to get under for Elias. It would have been a waste to keep him as out #7.
Exactly. We know he'll be back at some point this season. May as well let him play in Albany than gather rust as the 7th d-man. No sense in keeping him up unless he's going to be playing regularly.
Brooklyndevil 10-04-2005, 10:25 PM I think many Devil fans believe that David should be our 5th or 6th Defenseman not 7th and surely not in Albany.

I'm shocked and disappointed that both these goons are still on the roster.I agree with you for the most part. Oliwa and Langdon are both five-minutes-a-game players. They are almost like having an injured player dressed. Neither can be counted on when the Devils lead or trail in a game. Their sole purpose is to fight or prevent rough play by the opponent.

Thats it! Training camp is for two reasons in my opinion; 1. conditioning 2. and the most important, to win jobs!
Hale was one of the Devils Best Dmen in the Preseason. When you clearly win a job as a player you don't want to hear about logistics, salary caps or seniority......you won the job. To be sent down is a real slap in the face.
Know this IS how Hale feels right now

Its definately a bitter pill to swallow by all means, but from all reports I've heard so far, Jonathon Girard is clearly taking his demotion harder then Hale has (if Hale even is at this point - haven't read any of his comments yet). The important thing to keep in mind here is that David Hale put himself in the position to be the first callup and could in time allow the team to deal Colin White for more offense upfront.

"They're both really in good spirits and understand what's going on," Rats coach Robbie Ftorek said. "They're ready to play, waiting for the call to go back."
Hale, who played 65 games as a Devils rookie in 2003-04, may have been a victim of numbers. The Devils kept seven defensemen -- Sean Brown, Vladimir Malakhov, Paul Martin, Richard Matvichuk, Dan McGillis, Brian Rafalski and Colin White -- but Hale didn't need to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL.
"I still need five games (of NHL experience)," Hale said. "I don't know what they would have done if I had to clear waivers, but obviously that made it more difficult."
....
"It's not fun when you don't win," Hale said, "and then I got sick for awhile. I've been through that twice before. I kind of knew what to do, and it only takes time to get better."
If his situation is bothering him, Hale doesn't show it. He was in good spirits after practice, looking forward to changing the River Rats' fortunes while he can.
"You can't predict what's going to happen," Hale said. "They just said to keep working, keep improving. They didn't tell me anything definitely about when I'd be back.
"They were very encouraging. They weren't sending me down as a punishment. Maybe I need some more time to develop, or they've got some defensemen they feel comfortable with."
