Niedermayer named Ducks captainDevilsfanatic 10-04-2005, 02:15 AM http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=177635&page=1&pp=25 According to their msg boards. NJ_Devil_Boy 10-04-2005, 05:17 AM Good choice. Main Devil 10-04-2005, 07:49 AM That's terrific he had earned the title with the Devils. Brooklyndevil 10-04-2005, 10:00 AM I heard the Ducks are already planning to retire Niedermayer's Jersey, but Scott won't agree until the Ducks decide to retire Robs too! JimEIV 10-04-2005, 10:03 AM Break a Leg Scott! NaChOs 10-04-2005, 03:07 PM hahahahaah goin2hell 10-04-2005, 03:45 PM At least he wil get a longer spring and summer than normal! Ozolinsh_27 10-04-2005, 04:23 PM kinda weird that they name a newcomer to the team a captain.. i thought they would've given it to one of the returning players. Yes, If I were Keith Carney I'd be very upset. HBK27 10-04-2005, 04:31 PM Wow...Scott not only got Rob a rich contract, but he also got him an 'A' on his jersey. Looks like Carney got hosed in the whole deal. GentlemanOfLeisure 10-04-2005, 08:19 PM Break a Leg Scott! you know how I feel about this guy. Blackjack 10-05-2005, 01:55 AM I like how Niedermayer had to go to a second rate franchise to get his 'C'. Must be real satisfying. IMO, it's appropriate considering he was only our best defenseman when #4 was injured... and in a way it avoids the uncomfortable situation of the C passing from a real leader in Stevens to a real block of wood in Niedermayer. Now maybe it can pass to someone with fire in his belly, like Madden or Parise. Pwnasaurus 10-05-2005, 01:50 PM I like how Niedermayer had to go to a second rate franchise to get his 'C'. Blackjack 10-05-2005, 02:11 PM http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/search/details_pop.aspx?iid=50893196&cdi=0 Wow, he sure led the Devils in that series. Wait, why was he the fill in captain again? Oh yeah, because the real leader was injured. Pwnasaurus 10-05-2005, 02:22 PM I like how Niedermayer had to go to a second rate franchise to get his 'C'. Must be real satisfying. I disagree...I don't think the Devils are a second rate franchise. They are one of the most well run organizations, if not the most well run, in the NHL. You don't have to attack the Ducks just cause Scott is a homo-mammas-boy Pwnasaurus 10-05-2005, 05:05 PM No no, he wasn't...you misunderstand...he would have become the captain of the Devils had he re-signed...thus he is saying the Devils are a second rate organization..which I vehemently disagree with. Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 10-07-2005, 06:09 PM youre a joke. He does have a great point. Had Niedermayer resigned in Jersey, he would've officially been made captain the instant Stevens retired, probably without question. Thus, when Blackjack says the only way he'll get the C is on a second-rate franchise(not his exact words, but pretty much what he meant), he is indeed calling the Devils a second-rate franchise. How do you know? Never happened. All I know is that Niedermayer wore the 'A' for years while the real leader wore the 'C'. Maybe the Devils would have kept 3 'A's like they're doing now. Oh, and Rob Niedermayer wearing an 'A'? :biglaugh: Go back to your purple and teal board you troll. Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 10-08-2005, 03:53 AM How do you know? Never happened. Oh, and Rob Niedermayer wearing an 'A'? :biglaugh: Go back to your purple and teal board you troll. Niedermayer did wear the C while Stevens was out. Call me crazy, but I think that's a very good indicator that he'd be getting the C when Stevens retired. Usually teams don't go to the extent of naming an interm captain while the regular captain is injured, only to go without a captain when he retires. I wouldn't say I'm trolling, I'd say 10.16.1974 has a bit of a point. All indications were that Niedermayer was the next Devils captain in the event Stevens retired, and I'm sure most of you believed that as well. How an opinion can change in such a short time. Well, I did experience that when Paul Kariya left, but I don't think it was to this extent. Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 10-08-2005, 03:56 AM Not exactlly quack fan... I believe he's calling the quackers out.... I don't mean to be offensive, but thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious! Anyway, it's obvious he meant to trash the Ducks, but I find it quite funny he forgot the period where Niedermayer was Devils captain, and then tries to make a crack on how Niedermayer can only be captain on a second-rate team. Oh, I remember all right. I remember exactly how brutal the team was under his tenure. Blackjack 10-08-2005, 04:07 AM Niedermayer did wear the C while Stevens was out. Niedermayer would never have been captain as long as Stevens was here, he left before Stevens was retired. And yes, you're trolling here. When we got Mogilny I didn't go to the Leafs board to rub their faces in it. Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 10-08-2005, 06:58 PM You're splitting hairs. When we got Mogilny I didn't go to the Leafs board to rub their faces in it. I haven't been rubbing it in your face. Anyway, you say he wouldn't have gotten the C before Stevens retired. Very true. But, I'd also venture a guess that Detroit's next captain won't be getting the C on his chest till Steve Yzerman retires, either. You can't compare one of the greatest leaders in NHL history to a guy like Niedermayer. But, it's painfully obvious that Niedermayer was the most likely choice for captain once Stevens left. That's all I'm saying. devildan 10-08-2005, 07:13 PM Niedermayer did wear the C while Stevens was out. He is also not rubbing it in our faces. He is just defending the captain of his team. Nothing wrong with that. Scoogs 10-08-2005, 07:28 PM kinda weird that they name a newcomer to the team a captain.. i thought they would've given it to one of the returning players. Management is all new. So they have no reason to go with who has been there the longest. | ||
