Since Fritsche started making waves, I expected him to get a few NHL games as a reward for his camp. I didn't, and still don't, expect to see him around more than 9 games. I hope that it works out for him that he can stay, but I expect to see him back in juniors for the remainder. I did not get the same feeling about Zherdev. I will not believe it until I hear he's cleared customs and arrived in Columbus with a sweater on. I have no opinion on Nederost until I see how the rest of the roster looks. Aaron Vickers 10-05-2003, 06:50 PM Which story? RDriesen 10-05-2003, 07:12 PM some quotes: "We could have three teenagers and a 20-year-old on the team," MacLean said. "We very well could have that in the next 48 hours, and that’s not a bad thing. I went to the finals (with Florida) with three of them — (Radek) Dvorak, (Ed) Jovonowski and (Rhett) Warrener — and (Rob) Niedermayer was 20. "I just think we have to judge them as players." I think that says a lot about his feelings of playing young guys. Rick Nash did it as an 18-yearold last year, but he was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. If the Blue Jackets get Nikolai Zherdev, this year’s No. 4 overall pick, out of Russia — and MacLean said he will turn matters over to the NHL in a day or so if it doesn’t happen — he might also get a chance. it says a lot to me that he s gonna turn it over to the nhl. that at least says he wants him here and he will do all that he can. i didnt always believe that was the case doesnt mean he is coming over, but i think there is a better chance of it happening now, then i did a week ago Aaron Vickers 10-05-2003, 07:15 PM The dumbass in me shows through... Aaron Vickers 10-05-2003, 07:21 PM The dumbass in me shows through... Though none of you saw my question originally in that post... Excellent. KeithBWhittington 10-05-2003, 10:11 PM Zherdev will not be playing here this season (unless douggie Mac is messing with us again!) MacLean is hard pressed to get into the playoffs, his job(s) may depend on it. I don't think you do this if your goal is to get into the playoffs and expect these guys to deliver immediately on their potential, IMO Fritsche would get a better return (in terms of overall ice-time and experience) then would Zherdev at least in year one... My reason Zherdev has never experienced an NHL situation, some of you saying he plays in a league that is basically as good as the AHL. I say to you , playing styles and coaching styles, not to mention culture and language. Fritsche has the game experience (albeit not regular season) he has the playing style and has been adjusting to the coaching style, he also speaks the same language as the coach. Zherdev has had none of these yet ( yes, he can communicate through translator...but it would have been better if we picked up a steady russian that could not only serve the team, but be almost a big brother to Zherdev). MacLean talks about going to the Finals with Rhett Warrener, Ed Jovanaski and Rob Niedermeyer. All spoke the same language, all played the NA style game, all had time before the season to get adjusted to the coaching. I AM NOT SAYING ZHERDEV WILL NOT ADJUST TO THE COACHING! JUST NOT RIGHT AWAY! Just that I think alot of others on this board will agree with me in saying that his first year over here, be it this year, next year (if there is one) or the forseeable future will be more of a learning experience then a 25 goal calder trophy season. KeithBWhittington 10-05-2003, 10:16 PM If Nedorost plays anywhere it will be on the fourth line!!! he belongs there after his thuggery in the Buffalo game!!!! the most devasting line in hockey...
