I noticed him a couple of weeks ago.. It was either on the Buff HF board or a article. I am not convinced the Sharks were ever interested .. and this was just agent speak.
He has really no offensive upside, played less than 60 games eahc of the last 2 seasons and althoughbig -- nothing seems to ID him as a strong or fast skater so he is at best a #4 Dman. I don't see the value to the Sharks at $1.6 Mil since Davison does this just as well and is only min $.5 Mil .
Sharks need to find either a #1 or a #3/4 instead since Stuart, Hannan , and McLaren are all #2/3's IMO. Really need an experienced quality #3/4 --since there is no hope of acquiring a #1 his yr.

Mckee is a lot better defensively then Davison.

Any normal fan is with you there.

I am getting sick of all the "reasonings" of how Witt and McKee are, since they don't put up points, #4 type defensemen at best and are comparable to Davison but he makes way less so its a no-brainer.

Man, we could've used McKee, because according to the Pittsburgh Penguins board, we lack depth everywhere except in goal, and the Pens will finish with more points than us this season!

And here I thought we could do pretty well for ourselves, what with our tons of team speed and solid defensive corps. What was I smoking?!?!http://www.hfboards.com/images/smilies/ssst.gif

meh...if we wanted someone like McKee we would have kept Rathje, and it wouldn't have cost us draft picks or players...

You do know that Doug Wilson tried to keep Rathje right?

I still think the Sharks need one extra top 6 forward and one of Bombardir or Mironov would round out the D-corps.

You know, i REALLY like the way Mironov plays when he's on...problem is he has his head up his butt too often :( Bombardir is pretty much the only other UFA d-man out there i wouldn't mind the Sharks going after. Back to the topic, getting McKee would have been a great pickup as long as it didn't cost the Sharks much in return. That guy is fairly underrated by many long-time hockey fans, and like some poster already proved, pretty much unknown to newer fans.

Oh come on, McKee is very underrated and is inexpensive. Just a few seasons ago, back when Buffalo was a perrenial Eastern conference finalist, McKee was being touted in the EXACT respect that Scott Hannan is being touted now. He's more reliable than Rathje and scores about as many goals. Unfortunately though, he's about as injury-prone as Bryan Marchment...

I still expect the Sabres to trade him though and honestly expected the Sharks to get him back at the 04 trade deadline.

Good point. I would say that back when Buffalo had Hasek and were a threat in the East, McKee and Warrener were touted more as a Rathe/Ragnarsson type as opposed to a Hannan type of player. All 4 guys mentioned were known as being very reliable, shut-down type defenders. McKee and Warrener actually got the respect they deserved back in those years, but i'm not sure if it was on par with the attention that guys like Hannan and Regehr have recieved in recent years.

But back to the point, just because the Sabres aren't a contender anymore, many fans have started to forget about McKee which is why i said he is "fairly underrated" at this present moment. And despite his injury problems, McKee is a warrior, and would be a good fit for the Sharks because any time he misses due to injury might actually be a blessing as it'll keep him fresher for the playoffs and at the same time give guys like Davison, Murray, or whever a chance to better adjust to the NHL at their own pace instead of being forced into a top 6 role that they might not be ready for over the course of an entire season.
