Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 08-27-2005, 12:01 AM There's been some talk of him coming to Anaheim, and while I'm not suggesting he will be a Duck, I was wondering what the rest of you think of the possibility.
I, for one, would like it. If he signs a one-year deal, it allows Getz to spend a year in Portland. I know we just traded Rucchin in a cost-cutting move, but if he signed for $1 million or less, I'd sure like him as an addition here.
Niedermayer-Fedorov-Lupul
Sykora-Damphousse-Selanne
Now that'd be a pretty sweet top six. If Damphousse didn't lose a step, we could definetely expect Pete and Teemu to put up some pretty good goal totals with that line. On a San Jose team where there were no 30 goal scorers(two had 28, tho), and I don't believe either were his linemates(Marleau and Cheechoo), he still had good assist numbers(29, T3rd on the team).
Jerky Leclerc 08-27-2005, 12:18 AM Damphousse is a LW and the Ducks could use a playmaker. Even though this info is from the one whose name can not be spoken at HF, I'll leave it open and you may discuss freely. Just avoid speaking of this rumor as anything more than speculation.

Yeah, it's pretty much me saying "what would you think of the possibility of Burke somehow adding him". No different than a trade proposal. I don't want to be any more associated with Easy E than anyone else.
Also, I believe Damphousse can play both. Depends where Carlyle wants Niedermayer. I'd rather have Vinny, should he end up in Anaheim, between Sykora and Selanne, or Sykora and Lupul, and have Niedermayer being the big, forechecking winger with Fedorov and Lupul or Selanne. But that's just me.
DuckTales22 08-27-2005, 12:57 AM I was hoping that rumor by "he we do not speak of" would actually come to frutition. We need a 2nd line center who can make plays and Damphousse is that person. I don't have much confidence in Nieds at center, he's a much better winger.
danaluvsthekings 08-27-2005, 01:26 AM Do the Ducks have room to bring in Damphousse or anyone else for that matter making close to $1 mil without making another trade to clear up some salary room?
Using the numbers from the link at duckszone in another thread it says they're at a little over $37 mil for Giguere, Bryzgalov, Neidermayer, Ozolinsh, Carney, Salei (assuming his QO number), Vishnevski, Smid, Marshall, Fedorov, Sykora, Selanne, Neidermayer, Lupul, McDonald, Pahlsson, Hedstrom, Kunitz, Moen, Brennan, and Fedoruk. That didn't include Adams, and that's not accounting for the fact if someone like Getzlaf makes the team he's making over $450k more than someone like Brennan or Kunitz who would probably be the one sent down. Adams and Getzlaf would have you over $38 mil. Burke was quoted as saying he'd like to be in the $37-37.5 mil range.

Of course you would, dear. May I ask what would your reaction be if we didn't sign him? Something on the order of....."I like it!"?
S.S. Giggy 08-27-2005, 02:07 PM What other centers are available?
Pepper 08-27-2005, 02:08 PM Too bad Antti Aalto is still injured... :sarcasm:

I'd actually be somewhat dissapointed. Andy Mac in the top six would suck, and I'd rather see Getzlaf in Portland this year. Vinny is also the top center available.
I may have backed up alot of Burke's moves, but I just don't see the point in bashing a GM who's been adding Norris and Richard trophy winners.
Spankatola Jamnuts 08-27-2005, 04:34 PM I know you don't. I know you think that one great move is carte blanche for infinite stupid moves.
bleuer 08-27-2005, 05:41 PM get datsyuk and trade feds :) :yo:

I don't think it means that if he were to make a ton of stupid moves, the good ones make them good, but when a guy like him adds some pretty key pieces, I put alot of trust in him. He may have overpaid, but he certainly knows what he's doing, or else he wouldn't be paid to be our general manager. Only time will tell if he's doing the right thing with trading all these depth guys for goons, or if it was a very stupid move.

I wanna see this team win some games, not beat them all and lose 10-0.
I'm a BIG fights fan, but I like good hockey as well and with minor leaguers we're not going to make a decent season, let alone the playoffs.
How pathetic is to find on the other thread "Brennan and Fedoruk could have some upside"... :biglaugh:
Come on! Be real! :shakehead
lux_interior 08-27-2005, 08:38 PM Well, if Burke signs Damphousse it would make up some of the ground for trading Rucchin, Leclerc and Popovich and getting squat in return. But that's a big "if". And like my Dad used to say...
"If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candied nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."

So do i and Holmquist and Popovic where both minor leaguers as well where they not? Did Burke take the toughness thing too far? Maybe but its better then being too wimpy like in years past.
Getzlaf > Leclerc

That's true. The old hockey is that size competes, speed kills. If you've got a big team, even if you're short on talent you'll be able to at least compete on most nights. But it's not like there's no skill on this team either.
Burke's kind of got Al Davis syndrome ... he likes his skill players really fast, and the rest of his players really big.
Fighter 08-28-2005, 08:22 AM So do i and Holmquist and Popovic where both minor leaguers as well where they not?
Popovic wasn't a minor leaguer, I think he will have a good NHL career.
Getzlaf>Leclerc
Too easy, I never liked Leclerc.
Pepper 08-28-2005, 09:37 AM Think about Philly, it seems Burke & Clarke like similar teams. Lots of small skilled, fast players (Gagne, Kapanen, Radio, Johnsson) backed up some mean mofos (Brashear, Hatcher, Rathje etc).
It seems Burke has no middle road, his top 2 lines are really fast & skilled and bottom 2 lines are really big & physical.
Snap Wilson 08-28-2005, 12:08 PM I think Burke has made only one undoubtedly stupid move (Popovic for Brennan) and it's only undoubtedly stupid because we could have surely gotten something more for him.
Many of the rest are questionable but can be at least considered justifiable. I can see the possiblity of Rucchin and Leclerc not fitting into Carlyle's system and getting a quality enforcer making the minimum (if one believes that a quality enforcer is needed) for a second round pick isn't as egregious as people are making it out to be, as the extra cap space allowed us to make other moves.
At the same time we added one of the two best d-men in the game in Niedermayer. That one move does make up for a lot, IMO. And despite having two players at the six million mark, we're fairly well positioned for next year, with Sykora, Carney and Selanne's salaries free to use for other acquisitions and a handful of young guys poised to make an impact.
