Nope, for UFAs BK doesn't need to waste a second rounder, so he would feel incomplete.

Notice Moen is losing his fight. Moen can't skate, shoot, pass, or fight. He's useless. Calling him a goon is like calling Paul Kariya a goon.

I dont know much about these guys to tell you the truth. So can you guys put them in order of toughness in your opinion?

Also tell me where you guys think all the players will end up

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Gilles won't make this team. He's Portland bound. And Moen will hardly play.

As rallykiller once thought of, I guess Burke has assembled the "Katella Killers", with the fourth line, at least. Can't wait for Fedoruk-Adams-Brennan to hit the ice.

In terms of toughness?

1. Kip Brennan
2. Trevor Gillies
3. Todd Fedoruk
4. Travis Moen

5. Craig Adams

Craig Adams isn't a goon. His career high in PIMs is 71. He's an actual player. I know, it's amazing that we signed one of those.

1. Fedoruk
2. Brennan
3. Gillies (gotta see more fights from him)

4. Moen (semi-goon/physical 4th liner a la Severson)

Just from watching Gillies play in Portland against us, he is one of the toughest fighters I have seen in a while. He will stop at nothing to punish an opponent, and made playing for the Pirates in years past a living hell. I really hope he and Brennan make the Portland roster, its been so long since I have watched tough hockey!

What do you all think? Gillies/Brennan in Portland?

I can see justification for all the deals Burke has made, except the Popovic one. I don't necessarily agree with them, but I can understand what he was thinking.
This latest one is completely irrational. Goons are a dime a dozen. Why give up a potentially up and coming D-man for a goon.

The only thing Brennan ever did that I can remember was ending Kevin Sawyer's NHL career. I was at the game and thought he might have killed him. After seeing that punch I thought it might have been time to change the rules on fighting. Well nothing was done to Brennan and then we had the Bertuzzi incident.

I thought the latest CBA agreement was designed to open up the game rather than give the goons an opportunity to flourish. If so, then what is Burke thinking about by overloading the 3rd & 4th lines with aggressive players.

Burke LOVES tough teams...the only reason we (I'm from Vancouver) didn't have a tougher team is because Crawford generally doesn't like to dress tough, hard-nosed players, for whatever reason. Burke would aquire tough players here (Grenier, Brookbank, May, etc) and Crow would sit them in the press box or give them 3 minutes a game, so I guess Burke just gave up. But rest assured he definately likes to build teams that won't be pushed around or bullied on the ice.

I'm guessing his strategy is to combine a mean, tough lineup with some really gifted, offensive guys. It could work. Guys like Fedoruk do have potential to be more than just goons, IMO. And I don't necessarily believe that toughness is going to be diminshed in this "new" NHL. If you can have a good balance between skill and a tough core of guys that will make you pay every time you go into a corner, stand in front of the net, etc, you may have a pretty good team that other teams dread playing. My guess is that's his philosophy.

I'd wait and see Burke's long-term plans before you guys get worried. While I think Burke has been a tad overrated here in Vancouver, I do believe he's a solid GM.

That's what some people forget. Not that I'm saying Fedoruk will be more than an enforcer, but did anyone else realize that both him and Brennan are actually pretty good skaters? Maybe this is a reason Burke coveted both more than we did. Now this ensures that we can still ice a team with an enforcer or two, and in the end, not be adding some dumb, slow, guy who can't do anything but fight a la Burnett.

I can see the play-by-play call now:

"Niedermayer takes the cross-ice pass from Carney, he moves in from the point - dekes one man, pulls a Savardian spinarama (© Danny Gallivan), fakes a shot. Down goes the defenceman. He starts behind the net, reverses his field. Niedermayer slides the puck over to a wide-open Todd Fedoruk who fans on the shot with the goalie down and out. The puck slides to Kip Brennan who fires the puck wide -it richochets off the back boards and to Trevor Gillies who has the entire top of the net open. Gillies fires and the puck goes out of play.

Niedermayer has just smashed his stick over the boards in front of the Ducks bench. He leans over, says something to Coach Randy Carlyle who shrugs and points up to the executive box. Niedermayer takes off his hemet and gloves and heads for the dressing. Shades of Patrick Roy when he was with the Habs.

Say what you want about the hockey skills of these guys that Brian Burke has assembled but they are tough and will not be pushed around."

Fedoruk and Brennan in Anaheim.

That was actually Brad Norton...even though I hear Brennan's name from time to time because Brennan also fought him.

If they're pretty good skaters, why does the report on both Brennan and Fedoruk say "FLAWS: Needs help with his skating."

Im sure they use the same generic tagline with every enforcer "needs help with skating" ive seen both play and theyre no Paul Kariyas but they certainly can skate good

Was Brennan juiced?

I guess the NHL still doesn't have a testing policy anyways.

agree, I was cool with all of his other moves except brennan(who I like) for Popovic.

one thing is for sure, no more marc chouinards or matt cullens or alexei smirnovs will be in the bottom 6.

and I like the Gilles move because he'll beat the crap out of guys that mess with perry and getzlaf.

:snide: And losing to newly acquired Blackhawk Todd Simpson.

But I'd cut Moen some slack. He's young and works his *** off and will stand up for his teammates. He had 16 FM last NHL season which was good for top 20 in the league.
He's not a goon, more like gritty middleweight with very limited talent. I hope he improves his play so he gets to stay in the show.
