Dirk316 08-25-2005, 04:01 PM The Burke bashings is getting really annoying. Last seasons team was slow, wimpy and sucked this years teams will be faster and more physical we lost a captain was a horrible leader and ultra soft, a power forward who plays 10-20 games a year and isnt very physical, and a 28 yr old Euro who wasnt going to be more then a 4th liner anyways.
Hedstrom,Moen,Adams,Neids,Fedoruk,Getzlaf, Sellane >>>>>>>>>>>> Leclerc,Ruchin,Holmquist,Krog,Burnett,Skoula
Fighter 08-25-2005, 06:04 PM A horrible leader Rucchin?
Oh yeah, I can see Fedoruk scoring clutch goals, Brennan dishing out juicy assists and Gillies blocking shots like crazy. Moreover they are so fast skaters, I can definitely see Brennan as an upgrade over Popovic.
:shakehead
Duckstudd269 08-25-2005, 06:05 PM I was not bashing Burke at all until today. The Popovich trade was HORRIBLE!
Now I wasn't a big fan of the Rooch trade, because of the lack of depth at center. However, I thought Rooch was overpaid, and i was glad we kept sykora instead. So only terrible trade he has made IMO, is the popovich trade.
Fighter 08-25-2005, 06:06 PM Wait wait, I understand!
dirk316 = Brian Burke!
Come on guy, even YOU were baffled by this idiotic trade.
Randall Graves* 08-25-2005, 06:19 PM The team is clearly tougher but this is a lopsided trade, Burke owes us an explanation...
not quite yoda 08-25-2005, 11:59 PM I think Burke just didn't like Popovic. Had a bad review on him. People just don't like certain players and don't want them on their team. Having said that, I personaly would have kept Popovic.

I think everyone here would have kept popovich.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 08-26-2005, 02:34 AM Popovic IMO should've gotten much more, but I would've easily traded him if I were Burkey. Smid is better, Mikkelsson is better, and I guarantee we'll draft another defenseman who is better in the future(maybe as soon as next year). I also doubt he would've been better than Vish or Salei(if he stayed long-term), so I couldn't see him fitting anywhere. Honestly, if Kip Brennan was the best player he could get for Popovic, I back Burke's move 100%. Popovic's value was only going down as time went on.
Dirk is 100% right. We might not've seen them play, but unless they totally crap out, this is easily the best Ducks team ever iced. I don't care if the trade was lop-sided, Brian Burke has assembled a truly great team, and he's still kept a majority of the important future intact.
Dirk316 08-26-2005, 03:16 AM Again this team is >>>> better then last seasons
McSorley 33 08-26-2005, 09:20 PM I don't understand, like many of you, about this trade for Kip. The Ducks will be better this year and for years to come. You have great young talent and now you have all the toughness you need to make things work.
I think you guys will see things differently when someone hits one of your players and then Kip and Todd go after them. To see a response like that has been absent from your teams style of hockey.
All I'm saying is when someone hits one of your guys and then Fedoruk-Brennan K.T.F.O., be saying WOW.......KInda like new territory, yet exciting. The KIngs need more toughness.
With good players and tough fighters = winning.
Hockeyfan02 08-26-2005, 09:52 PM I'm like everyone else, I understood this team needed some toughness, but did we need to go get 3 enforcers? The Popovic trade was brutal. Popovic may not turn out to be anything special, but what does Brennan bring to the table that this team doesn't have? We've got 4th line tough guys, Popovic doesn't make much. It just doesn't make any sense. Maybe this makes room for Smid to make the team. That's the only reasonable conclusion I can come to, but Kip Brennan was the best he could get for Popovic? :dunno:
braincramp 08-26-2005, 11:13 PM If you're trying to get cap space in a trade, you are getting a player with a lower salary than what you're giving up. It isn't reasonable to expect to get a player who is worth a lot more than the salary he is making, so you are probably always trading down in talent. In a year where so many teams are trying to reduce salary, it's even less likely that you'll find a player who is a bargain -- they wouldn't be trading him anyway.
As far as roster strategy goes, you could take player payroll and divide it equally among 22 or 23 players and spend about $1.6m on each, and probably have a team which is fairly bland -- not a fan success, in all likelihood. If you have one forward under contract at $6m, spend almost $9m on a brother act, a couple of others at about $3m, and have a keeper at $4m, you must find a lot of inexpensive players to round out the team. Thus, no depth.
One way to work this, especially if you're happy with your D, is to contain their O by giving them a rough time with your checking lines. It remains to be seen whether the alleged goons can do this, but you only have so much money, and you've spent it on your D and your Top 6.
Remember, too, that some of these players are being recruited for Portland.
lux_interior 08-27-2005, 08:03 PM Will this year's team be better than last years? Yes.
But really that's not saying much, because last season's team was pretty crappy. The question is will this team be better than the team that went to the Cup Finals.
The answer is clearly no.

It's unlikely this team we have will match the overall success of the 02-03 squad, but I think it definetely could be better in the regular season.
Dirk316 08-27-2005, 09:41 PM The cup team was carried by Jiggy and had less talent then this years team. So another words as Jiggy goes so do the Ducks
I think everyone here would have kept popovich.

Everytime you spell his name wrong, a small malnourished child in poverty dies.
Please.
Think of the children.

Get in line for your cup of Kool-Aide..Drink up
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 08-28-2005, 07:12 PM Get in line for your cup of Kool-Aide..Drink up
Huh? You don't think it will?
TwzKing 08-28-2005, 07:25 PM Come one guys, our teams need to meet in the playoffs. So the rest of the NHL can see how So-Cali rivals do it.
lux_interior 08-28-2005, 11:16 PM Come one guys, our teams need to meet in the playoffs. So the rest of the NHL can see how So-Cali rivals do it.
I'd settle for both teams making the playoffs in the same season.

I like the blue kool aide, how about you?
Fielddog 08-30-2005, 01:02 PM Huh? You don't think it will?
In a word...no
Not enough up front
"Gave" away your heart & soul in Rucchin ( Always killed the Kings in games)
Selanne on downward slide and has never posted great numbers w/o Paulie
Thugs= pilons... Not going to work if new rules are enforced although I do like Fedoruk
Good deal with S.Neids but paid too much for his brother
Still not sure Giguere will be so confortable with the new pad restrictions
I guess both teams have question marks, and it will be interesting, but
I am more comfortable in what DT is doing with LA over what Burke is doing now and what he did in the past in Vancover.

I thought we reached our limit on misinformed Kings fans already?
Where do you think Paul was when Selanne scored his league leading 52goals?
Thugs= pilons... Not going to work if new rules are enforced although I do like Fedoruk
For enforcers Fedoruk and Brennan are actually quite respectable skaters. It's not like Grimson part 2.
Good deal with S.Neids but paid too much for his brother

Giguere played with smaller leg pads than league allowed during the Cup run, it's the shoulder pads which are being questioned. We'll see.

Good for you, I wouldn't trade places even if I could.
Fielddog 08-31-2005, 11:32 PM For enforcers Fedoruk and Brennan are actually quite respectable skaters. It's not like Grimson part 2.
Please, don't even go there. Brennan is a lot of things, a good skater is not one of them.

The leg pads weren't what covered up almost every part of the upper net. They didn't label him the "Michelin Man" for nothing.
Good for you, I wouldn't trade places even if I could.
I'm sure ;) ;)
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 08-31-2005, 11:41 PM I'm sure ;) ;)
Brennan is actually a fairly respectable skater for an enforcer. He's no Sergei Fedorov or Scott Niedermayer, but he's still not bad. Fedoruk's pretty good too.
Giguere wore big shoulder pads, but he wasn't exactly stopping pucks with the extra padding, he stopped the pucks with his stomach.
This team is much better than last years'.
Speaking of Giguere, I was looking at a Hartford rookie card of him, and man, maybe there's more to him than we know of. The scouting report on the card said he had awesome reflexes, and in their opinion, his best feature was his glove hand. A ton has changed since then, but maybe we haven't seen Jiggy's best regular season play, yet.

Of course you are, your a kings fan.

Wow imagine the fued between the kings and ducks fans from that series...the mods would have to shut down both boards!
Fielddog 09-02-2005, 01:04 PM Of course you are, your a kings fan.
Autually, as a Kings fan I was very pleased when they hired Burke.
If you read the Vancover boards, there aren't many sad to see
him go,and as I watch him screw up the Duck's roster, I hope
he stays in Anaheim a long time. Someone needs to remind him
that thug hockey is what most teams are moving away from.
I gotta admit if a game gets away from them ( and I'm sure many will),
they sure can drop them with anyone.
Pwnasaurus 09-02-2005, 01:46 PM I understand you must be jaded from all the championships the Kings have won since their inception.

Ah the same old pityful argument....this doesnt hold any weight.
The only way to get any resolution will be to see who wins the season series
Pwnasaurus 09-02-2005, 07:46 PM Don't care about the season series, I'll take the cup.
