I like the moves personally. You can never have enough depth...
Willsie could stay in DC and allow the Caps to sent Gordon to Portland to develop at center.
Pettinger - Sutherby - Willsie/Peat
Its really not that much a drop off and its allows Gordon to get big minutes in Portland. Hamel will also look good in Portland and get a call up here and there. It sets up nice if they cannot bring Grier and or Zubrus back after this season.
Nothing wrong with depth. Yeah...the defense needs some help but I can dig this move.

Henry will start the season on IR after getting block knocked off against the flyers and Gordon will go to the minors. On defense Hamel would have to pass thru waivers to be sent to Portland and so he won't be going there. The Caps will now keep 8 defensemen. Gonchar, Witt, Eminger, Doig, Kwiatkowski, Boumedienne, Hamel, Berry. Yonkman and Fortin will go to Portland.

Hamel is a forward.
It looks like TSN.ca posted Hamel's position incorrectly when they posted the waiver list. In the individual player write-ups, they have it correct.
