One year left in the CHL. He'll be in the AHL the season after this one.

Please be respectful and on topic. But I saw that opening a mile away. :)

I agree, it's very rude & impolite to ask questions like that about his sister.

But now answer the question!

Must have mixed him up with someone else :dunno: Good to see he's under contract all the same.

Another good job by Burke.

I don't recall the new CBA extending the CHL-NHL agreement regarding 19 yr olds not playing in the AHL.

can anyone verify?

I like Portland's D:

Smid-O'Brien
Rome-Smith
Saunders-DiPenta

edit: that article says: "Realistically, however, he’s anticipating spending the season with the Ducks’ American Hockey League farm club in Portland, Me."

I thought the same...

but it looks like the new CBA allows for 19 year olds playing in the AHL.

So that month or so of being 19 is ok?

The old cutoff was Sept 15th if I remember right. No idea how things work under the new CBA.

Last season was considered his 19 year old season, not the one coming up(which would have been his overage season). This is why he is able to play in the AHL this year.

“Jordan Smith is a hard-nosed defenseman, who is ready to make the step into professional hockey,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. “With his character and work ethic, we expect big things from him in the future.”

Good signing for Portland. Smid's probably on the big team, now, so Smith playing in Portland to replace him makes sense.
