do you guys think we would be better off giving niedermayer a max contract for 4 or whatever years or parting with him and getting different players?(malachov mcgillis)
NiedermayerTaiMaiShu 08-24-2005, 12:06 PM do you guys think we would be better off giving niedermayer a max contract for 4 or whatever years or parting with him and getting different players?(malachov mcgillis) Classic Devil 08-24-2005, 12:19 PM It doesn't matter. We offered him the max for 5 and he went to Anaheim anyways. Diaboli 08-24-2005, 12:20 PM What Niedermayer would that be? :dunno: PhillyDevil 08-24-2005, 01:06 PM I know it would have tied our hands in a lot of ways but I would have preferrered to keep Nieds (even at the max). I think we could have filled in a roster with young talent and cheap role players around our core of superstars of Elias, Brodeur and Niedermayer + our other core guys like Langenbrunner, Gomez, Gionta, Pandolfo, White & Martin and had a very sucessful team for years to come. Considering the number of forward prospects that we have coming up in the next few years that should be able to contribute significantly, I think we can afford to overspend to keep our older superstars. Main Devil 08-24-2005, 01:17 PM It's over, done with, not a thought anymore. It may prove to be good for the Devils like not signing Holik for a reported $8 million per year in the summer of 2002. Time will tell. My thought would be to tie up Elias longterm and as Gomez moves to ufa, let Parise and Zajac move into the top c postions. Nothing against Gomez, but with the cap there are obviously going to be casualties. John Flyers Fan 08-24-2005, 01:50 PM do you guys think we would be better off giving niedermayer a max contract for 4 or whatever years or parting with him and getting different players?(malachov mcgillis) Better with him, without question. David Puddy 08-24-2005, 02:57 PM Better with him, without question.Probably not for five years at the cap. Maybe not even four years. John Flyers Fan 08-24-2005, 03:04 PM Probably not for five years at the cap. Maybe not even four years. I believe that you'll begin to see the cap rise, maybe not next year, but in the years following that so that by years 4 & 5 of that contract the cap will be in the $41-44 million range, making that 7.8 million easier to swallow. TaiMaiShu 08-24-2005, 03:23 PM yea i think it would of been better to have him It's over, done with, not a thought anymore. that's not my point David Puddy 08-24-2005, 03:39 PM I believe that you'll begin to see the cap rise, maybe not next year, but in the years following that so that by years 4 & 5 of that contract the cap will be in the $41-44 million range, making that 7.8 million easier to swallow. But it may drop a little next season before it goes up. $7 million seemed a bit high to me with a $52 million payroll for the 2004-05 season. borrachon 08-24-2005, 03:49 PM I believe that you'll begin to see the cap rise, maybe not next year, but in the years following that so that by years 4 & 5 of that contract the cap will be in the $41-44 million range, making that 7.8 million easier to swallow. And we could've lost some important players while waiting for the cap to possibly move up a few million. There are very few people in the league that deserve the max salary, and Niedermayer isn't one of them IMO. There are very few people in the league that deserve the max salary, and Niedermayer isn't one of them IMO. You wouldn't have lost anyone close to the importance of Neidermayer. borrachon 08-24-2005, 03:53 PM You wouldn't have lost anyone close to the importance of Neidermayer. Actually if we lost Elias/Gomez/Friesen to get under the cap we would have no scoring power, which we already lack. John Flyers Fan 08-24-2005, 03:58 PM Actually if we lost Elias/Gomez/Friesen to get under the cap we would have no scoring power, which we already lack. Drop Malakhov, McGillis, Kozlov and one of Langdon/Oliwa and you have more than the $7.8. TaiMaiShu 08-24-2005, 04:00 PM You wouldn't have lost anyone close to the importance of Neidermayer. Brodeur? borrachon 08-24-2005, 07:07 PM Drop Malakhov, McGillis, Kozlov and one of Langdon/Oliwa and you have more than the $7.8. And we'd still be over the cap. So drop Friesen, one of White/Matvichuk, and maybe Brylin. That leaves our opening night line-up as: ???-Gomez-Mogilny ???-Parise-Gionta Pandolfo-Madden-Langenbrunner Langdon-Rasmussen-Marshall Niedermayer-Rafalski White-Martin Hale-Brown Brodeur Clemmensen | ||
