I wonder who the defenseman will be going to Atlanta?

I am thinking Chris Phillips but that is a guess.

If that's true, it's a good trade for Atlanta. Phillips is at least a top 2 or 3 defenceman on any team. Happy for Heatley to get out of Atlanta at least. He and Spezza should click .

Everybody else is saying it is De Vries.

This makes Ottawa a much tougher team come playoff time. That gives Ottawa a little more grit and if Heatley comes back to 100% form he will replace the offense Hossa gives along with more.

it accomplishes goals for both teams, it gives the sens more financial freedom, and a gritty scoring foward theyve been looking for while for atlanta they have a decent amount of gritty fowards up front but were lacking experienced defencemen which theyre now picking up one

Men I thought the Devils did a trade too !!

Next time think about putting a clear title to the thread please... ;)

I was already thinking about Friesen + Kozlov + Matvichuk vs Kovalchuk + Lehtonen :D

I am one the BIGGEST HEATLEY fan and i hate this trade. even though it is perfectly even, i am devastated. i love how atlanta is so young and talented and now Heatley and Kovalchuk aren't going to be the NEXT Dynamic Duo anymore

Heatley signed a 3-year, $13.5M deal with the Sens, which is kind of shocking IMO. He must badly want a cup. I'd be pretty upset if I was an Atlanta fan; he basically wanted out to get away from a bad situation that he created himself.

Yeah...I realized after I posted the thread that I made it seem as if the Devils just made a monster deal. My fault. Still a huge trade though worth talking about.

Could't agree with you more. This trade stinks for Devils fans. I know Hossa is a great player. But if Heatley is healthy it makes Ottawa a better team.

I know he wanted out. But it is kinda sad to see Heatley and Kovalchuk broken up. It looked like they were gonna be fun to watch for many years... except when they played the Devs. :)

Imagine how Jacques Martin must be feeling right about now knowing his Florida Panthers will have to face Hossa as many times as they will.

Looks more like Dany needing a change of scenery than wanting to win a cup. Thrashers have a lot of good pieces in place to make a run in the next couple of years, after Lehtonen gets some experience and Coburn as well to anchor the blueline.

There's no other reason for the Thrashers to deal Heatley, but to help Dany's emotional state. I have to give credit to Altanta for making the move to help out Heatley. Atlanta got value in return, but the only down side of the deal for them is the extra 4 million in salary they just took on.

Value wise, the deal in itself is even, but the edge does have to go to Ottawa in that it frees up money for them to try to sign Redden and Chara.
