Would it be possible to trade John Madden?

In terms of leadership and suddenly removing the checking center, is it possible to trade Madden?

I'm fiddling with the numbers and it looks like we'll have to trade someone making $3M plus before Elias comes back.

I really wish this board would realize the fact that there are 5 players on the Devils they would never trade;

Brodeur
Brylin
Pandolfo
Gionta
Madden

These are guys are not going anywhere!!!

Get used to the fact that they Lou's favorites & they will never wear another team's uniform. EVER!!!

Dead issue.

I agree. The thing is I'm working the numbers and it's... just... not... working.
But since I miscalculated Madden's cap hit it might work out. Though I might have to trade Kozlov and/or White, both of whom I've been trying to keep.

How about Jeff Friesen to the Edmonton Oilers for Raffi Torres and a pick? Torres was making $800,000 per year before the rollback and has great potential to be a top six scorer. Jeff Friesen gets to skate on the best ice in the NHL.

Would the Oil do it?

I don't care what Madden's salary is, you cannot get rid of this guy! He brings too much to the table.

We'd probably have to throw in a pick. Trade Kozlov for a 2nd, and package that in with Jeff.

Torres is a LW right?

Yeah he plays the left side. He's 6-0, 216 lbs. and was drafted 5th overall in 2000 by the Isles. Scouting report mentions he's developing a good all-around game and is strong in the corners protecting the puck.

Raffi Torres inks two-year contract

Edmonton Oilers Press Release

The Edmonton Oilers have signed left wing Raffi Torres to a two-year contract.

Torres (6’0”, 216 pounds) will be playing his second season with the Oilers in 2005-06. The 23-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario played 80 games for the Oilers in 2003-04, establishing single-season career-highs for games, goals, assists, points and penalty minutes with 20-14-34 and 65 PIM. His 20 goals marked the first 20-goal season of his career and tied him for second on the Oilers goal-scoring list with Ethan Moreau.

In 2004-05, Torres scored 21-25-46 in 67 games with the American Hockey League’s Edmonton Road Runners, tying for the team scoring lead with Tony Salmelainen. His 21 goals were second for the Oilers’ minor league affiliate and he was also second on the Road Runners in assists and PPG (8), while finishing third in PIM (165) and shots on goal (173).

On November 24, 2004 Torres became the first Road Runner to register a hat trick when he scored a team record four goals in a 7-3 win over the Milwaukee Admirals. Three of the four goals came in the third period, establishing a franchise record for most goals in a period.

I'm out in dreamland here, but what would we need to add from Edmonton to make the following deal work?

To NJ:

Dvorak ($1.59 mill)
Torres ($0.825 mill)
Add more to even out

To Edm:

Langenbrunner ($1.65 mill)
Kozlov ($1.74 mill)

Dvorak produces on par with Langenbrunner, not counting intangibles. Torres is a cheaper replacement for Friesen, who can moved elsewhere. Moving Kozlov makes more cap space and allows Parise to move up the pecking order if he adapts to the NHL game well.

If I'm Lou, I'd hate to give up Jamie Langenbrunner at this point. He was tied with Scott Niedermayer for the most playoff points scored in 2003 and is a dynamic two-way player with great intangibles which is one reason why I'd rather see him on the top two scoring lines then back in a checking role. I'd rather give up an extra defender or someone like Brylin or Gionta in a deal if Jeff Friesen isn't desired.

That's why I want to see Langenbrunner in Oiler silks :) He's the clutch playoff guy we've been missing for the last while.

Would love to see the Flames get Freisen or Langenbrunner ourselves, but just like New Jersey, we're in no position to deal for more salary. Perhaps a team like Minnesota or Edmonton could make a trade with you guys.

Edmonton wouldn't move Torres straight up for Friesen.

When Lou Lamoriello makes a trade between now and October 1, I don't think he will get any NHL players in return. It would make more sense if he's trying to get under the cap.

Also, I don't think John Madden should be traded. It seems crazy to me.

I agree with Repairman, no way does Madden get traded unless the trade is money in the bank. I'd even add Langenbrunner to the list; if I recall correctly, Lou LOVES how Langenbrunner plays.

I fully expect Lou to make a number of trades, as opposed to only trading one higher-paid Devil.

I would do the trade in a second.

No. Less than a second actually.

That I would do.

Madden won't go anywhere. He is the next Devil to wear the "C." He absolutely flies on the ice, so with the expansion of the neutral zone, speedy forwards are a must both offensively and defensively. Let's not forget that Madden is quickly becoming the heart and soul of the Devils (sorry about the cliche there). He is worth every penny we pay him. Period.

i hope your right i love all of those players I do as well, but we have to remember Lou is obligated to compose the most competitive team possible. If he can make the Devils stronger and better in dealing any player not named Martin Brodeur, he'll do it for the greater good of the team.

Before you underrate Madden, consider one thing. The Flyers scored 12 goals against us during the 04 playoffs. Madden was not on the ice for a single one.

I know the contract isn't great, but I can't be;ieve that there are some Devils fans that want to trade Madden. I couldn't see it happening.

As far as trading Freisen or Kozlov... if it happens it wont be for someone like Raffe Torres (I wish!), I'm pretty sure that they wont be able to get much back in return (as far as NHL talent) It will probably be picks and prospects.
