Hey all,
Im a fan of the Pirates, I live right here in Portland, been a season tix holder for a while now. I have seen the names of possible players who will be on the Pirates tossed around, but I was curious what you all thought in terms of a roster for the Pirates and possibly line combos too. I know its early, and such...but like I said Im just curious what you all think.

Defense should include Shane O'Brien, Nathan Saunders and Aaron Rome. Juha Alen is in Finland. Joe Dipenta might be down there as well. Ladislav Smid might be there as well if they sign him in time. Jordan Smith still has another year in the OHL. I'd like to see Andrew Cazanello again if there's room.
Forwards will have Igor Pohanka, Joel Stepp, Curtis Glencross, Tim Brent, Dustin Penner, George Davis, Shane Hynes, Pierre Parenteau and Joel Perrault. Zenon Konopka, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry could all be there as well.
Goaltenders are anyone's guess, especially because most of the "standard" AHL goaltenders are signed already or have gone to Europe. Mike Wall might be a good permanent acquisition. I'd like to see Eddie Ferhi again.

He has to stay their right? I'm pretty sure this isn't his over-age year.

Why? Maybe as a back up, I guess.

Freddy Cassivi played well with Cinci last year, I think he should get the starting job.

Cassivi was a free agent and has been signed by Hershey
And yes this isn't Smith's overage year so he is obligated to be in the OHL, and yes I meant Ferhi as a backup.

which ironically retards the development of a very nice young man we Pirate fans met last year by the name of Maxime Daigneault, Kevin. :)

Does anyone know the reason why Juha Alen decided to stay in Finland? Was just curious as to what might be the reason.....is he still considered a prospect for Anaheim? Thanks :)

I have no idea, I thought he was ok at the prospect camp last year...a bit of waste of a 3rd rounder in a deep 03 draft in my opinion.
curious that he is listed as a UFA on one particular free agents site:

I'll look into it further, because I thought Anaheim still owned his rights.
He was another player who got a bad deal in Cincinnati. He was injured to begin the season and he came back to nothing. Eventually he was able to go to Finland.
