I'm bored again, so I got to thinking about where Bobby Ryan ranks in our Top 5 overall prospects. I put him 4th. I still think Perry is a better prospect than Smid at this point thus the bump. All things considered that's a nice Top 5 to have in the organization. Thoughts?

1. R.Getzlaf
2. C.Perry
3. L.Smid
4. B.Ryan
5. M.Popovic

1. Getzlaf
2. Smid
3. Ryan
4. Perry
5. Popovic

I expect next year to see how Ryan develop, I'm really high on him.
And I'm also high on Smid, I consider him more NHL ready than Perry.
Even if Popo hasn't the same upside of the other four, he's still a solid prospect, good second pairing man with some PP-PK time.

This is a tough one. I want to put Ryan at number one but Getz is more proven so it is hard to do so. Ryan did have 37 goals last year as an 18 year old, but he was on a strong team. Training camp and the rookie tournament should give us a much better idea, so for now:

Getzlaf
Ryan
Smid
Perry
Popovic

Yeah, I think Ryan will end up being the best out of all of them but right now, Getz is just further along developement-wise than all the others. My list would be the same as yours.

Sounds about right though Perry could become the big time star out of that group. It's really hard to say. We should do a top 20 prospects poll on this board again, once Forbesy puts his list out.

I plan on releasing the top 20 next month some time

I have no freakin' idea, but I'm curious. Where is Ryan supposed to play this year?

i was wondering about where smid was going to play... olesz has just signed and come over, and he was from the same draft.... just wondering if the ducks are going to leave smid in the czech league for another season, or bring him over to play some NA hockey with cincinnati and eventually anaheim

I'm pretty sure he is returning to the OHL with Owen Sound.

He'll probably start in Portland(Anaheim's new AHL affiliate).

as of right now:
Perry
Getzslaf
Smid
Ryan
Papovic

Overall:
Getzslaf
Perry
Smid
Papovic
Ryan

I would rank Smid higher, but I have never seen him play and I'm only going on what Forbesy and the rest of you have said about him.

Ah, okay. So what's his ETA for the big club? Two years? More?

I'm not sure when he'll get into the NHL. He was meant to be one of the most NHL ready guys from some of the reports I've read on him for people. I think he could make the team after camp next year; ie get there with Getzlaf and Perry. But I think it could be any when from 1-3 years...

I'd go:

1. Getzlaf
2. Ryan
3. Smid
4. Perry
5. Popovich

They are, just not top 5 worthy.

Ryan
Getzlaf
Smid
Perry
Mikkelson

I rank them as how what their potential will be, not development. Ryan, IMO, will easily be the very best of the bunch. Getz and Smid next, with Perry and Mikkelson being the next two. Personally, I don't really think Popovic would've made my list even if he still was here, but I'm sure many others disagree.

Agreed, Mikkelson's upside is higher than Popovic's at this point so he should have gotten the 5th spot.
