Oilers Chick 08-19-2005, 01:39 PM The Inside College Hockey website is reporting that the Ducks have signed Hynes but I just checked the Ducks website and there's no mention of it...not yet anyway.
If indeed it is true, it's a tough loss for Cornell.

The ducks site can be slow at putting up news, especially the signing of a college player. Do you think he could compete for a 3rd/4th line role (if signed), or would it be best for him to play in the AHL?

IMO, he's going to need some time in the AHL, if for no other reason because he's need to adjust to playing a long schedule and the demands thereof. Remember, the Ivy League schools play a shorter schedule than the rest of the NCAA due to their league (Ivy, not ECACHL) rules.
When he is ready to step into the NHL, which I would guess is maybe a year away at least, he should be competiting for a 3rd or 4th line role, and depending upon how quickly he progresses could be 2nd line material.
If you've never seen him play at Cornell, you'll be in for a real treat. He's a wonderful player to watch with good size who uses it well (although he's not necessarily of the tough guy variety) and terrific with the puck. I wish Shane much success with the Anaheim organization and I hope he does well in the pros.

"I went to a conditioning camp in Anaheim last month, and we have been back and forth in talks since then," Hynes said. "They had offered several contracts that were not worth leaving school for, but they came back with something last night that forced me to really look at it. This is a good move for me. Anaheim is a great organization and it is a perfect fit. I think it is what is best for my career right now."
Big kid, should help Cincy ... err ... Portland. He's still pretty young, so there's absolutely no need to rush him.
lux_interior 08-19-2005, 03:41 PM Good news. It would be good to add someone with size to the 3rd or 4th line eventually.

Thanks for the reply. Non of the ducks posters here get to see much college hockey, so our college prospects tend to get lost in the shuffle. I could see him on Portland's 2nd line with Perrault and Parenteau, seems like a good fit.

Yeah he probably would fit nicely on the second line in Portland if Getzlaf plays in Anaheim and Penner gets bumped up to the first line.

Davis-?-?
McDonald19 08-19-2005, 05:23 PM I saw a couple of Cornell games last season and the scouting reports seem to be true.
Loves to throw his weight around but rarely touches the puck, you just don't see this guy handling the puck...he is out there to make space for his linemates. Does have a good shot though.

I don't think that Getz, Kunitz and Konopka will all make Anaheim so one or 2 of them could be back.
Glencross Getz Perry (unless Glencross sucks again)
Hynes Perrault Parenteau
Penner Brent Stepp
Davis Pohanka
If both Getzlaf and Konopka are in Portland, Konopka could be lost in the shuffle with Getzlaf, Perrault and Brent the top 3 centers. Konopka could always be the 13th forward in Anaheim I guess, I'm not sure if he is NHL ready though.

The only thing about that is that Brent is too good to be an AHL third liner, and Penner and particularly Stepp aren't the greatest of linemates for him to be setting up.
Konopka is NHL ready, not much more he can learn in the AHL. He is ready to be an NHL 4th liner.

“Shane has a chance to be an NHL player, having good size and hockey sense,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. “We look forward to seeing and evaluating him at training camp.”
