Improving The Left Side

Unthinkable

Hypothetical Scenario: Lou Lamoriello decides to move some defense (Colin White for example) and possibly one of: Friesen, Kozlov, Brylin, Ahonen, Marshall to bring more offensive punch to left wing.

Current NJ Devils Left Wingers:
1 Patrik Elias (likely to be MIA for unspecified period of time)
2 Jeff Friesen (speedy, yet inconsistent)
3 Jay Pandolfo (excellent defensive partner with John Madden)
4 Langdon, Oliwa, Brylin

Possible Offensive Upgrades:
Mark Bell (toughness and scoring both)
Eric Daze
Ryan Smyth
Nils Ekman
Brenden Morrow
Sergei Samsonov

Any of these players seem like good potential fits with NJ if you wanted to strengthen LW?

I am under the impression Kozlov can and has played either wing???

I am under the impression Kozlov can and has played either wing??? Thought he was a natural center who shifts to the right side with a right handed shot when needed. Lets say he's moved just for the sake of discussion. Who would you target if you wanted to retool the lw side with more consistent offense and/or size and toughness or are you totally ok with the forwards inhouse right now?

Daze, only because I think it would cost us less to get him. I'd love to get Ryan Smith but I think he would be hard to acquire and what's his $$$ anyway? If he doesn't have have a big contract now he will when he becomes a UFA.

I like Bell, he's big and nasty, but Chicago would be fools to trade him now. The same for the others maybe minus Samsonov.

Kozlov is a natural center who plays his best when he is shifted to LW if i remember correctly.

Kozlov isn't a very good center in the defensive-zone.

Here's what TSN's scouting report has to play about him,Assets: Has great vision on the ice, imposing size and impressive imagination. Loves to handle the puck and does so with skill and finesse. Is very good when he lines up on either wing.

Flaws: Must improve his ability to score goals in order to keep defenders honest. Is still looking for a level of consistency in the NHL. Does not look good when playing the pivot.

Career: potential Top six forward.

I personally would stay with Friesen.

I would LOVE to see Mark Bell as a Devil. I just couldn't see how the 'hawks would be willing to give him up. He just turned 25, had what essentially was a breakout year last year('04), and just seems to be getting better and better. I could easily see 65 points from him this season.

I like Ryan Smyth too, but couldn't see that either.
