Offense this year

I was just looking back at the stats and realized alot of our secondary offense underachieved or was injured in 2003-04. With a full year to recover is it hard to beleive a player like Langenbrunner, Marshall, Brylin or Madden will bounce back offensivly. Here is how I would like to see my projected forward crew score this upcomming season.

4th line:
Darren Langdon 1 goal, 2 assists for 3 points
Krzysztof Oliwa 3 goals, 4 assists for 7 points
Erik Rasmussen 10 goals, 10 assists for 20 points
Grant Marshall 10 goals, 12 assists for 22 points

3rd line:
Jay Pandolfo 12 goals, 13 assists for 25 points
John Madden 14 goals, 24 assists for 38 points
Jamie Langenbrunner 20 goals, 21 assists 41 points

2nd line:
Sergei Brylin 16 goals, 25 assists for 41 points
Scott Gomez 15 goals, 49 assists for 64 points
Alexander Mogilny 30 goals and 35 assists for 65 points

1st line:
Patrik Elias 30 goals, 40 assists for 70 points
Zach Parise 15 goals, 38assists for 53 points
Brian Gionta 20 goals, 18 assists for 38 points

194 goals among the forwards seems about right for the Devils.

4th line:
Darren Langdon 1 goal, 2 assists for 3 points
Krzysztof Oliwa 3 goals, 4 assists for 7 points
Erik Rasmussen 10 goals, 10 assists for 20 points
Grant Marshall 10 goals, 12 assists for 22 points Something tells me that with the combination of Pat Burns out of the picture now and the bad judgement Marshall used which led to the broken hand in a meaningless fight late in the regular season (hurting the teams playoff fortunes against Philly), Grant Marshall has already played his last game for the Devils. Say hello to Oliwa and Langdon as his replacements.

3rd line:
Jay Pandolfo 12 goals, 13 assists for 25 points
John Madden 14 goals, 24 assists for 38 points
Jamie Langenbrunner 20 goals, 21 assists 41 points
That was an awesome checking line in 2003, but I liked it with Turner Stevenson on it also at the time. I'm personally opposed to saddling Jamie Langenbrunner on the checking line considering he has top two line goal scoring potential which could be better realized with the likes of Gomez/Elias/Kozlov. I do think John Madden should be one of our fringe players flirting with 20-23 goals or so this season considering the rule changes and his shorthanded penalty killing skills.

2nd line:
Sergei Brylin 16 goals, 25 assists for 41 points
Scott Gomez 15 goals, 49 assists for 64 points
Alexander Mogilny 30 goals and 35 assists for 65 points
It's been awhile since we last saw Sergei Brylin playing regularly on the 2nd line. He's older and less offensive these days. I'd rather see Langenbrunner or Gionta in place of him with Brylin on the checking line, but its certainly worth trying out.

1st line:
Patrik Elias 30 goals, 40 assists for 70 points
Zach Parise 15 goals, 38assists for 53 points
Brian Gionta 20 goals, 18 assists for 38 points
Flip Langenbrunner with Gionta here. Elias was a point-a-game player last time we had NHL hockey. Looks like you figure he'll only miss 12 games. I hope thats the case for our teams sake, but if he misses 3 or 4 months our collective goal scoring will definately take a significant hit.

You meant not to post this comment correct? Wasn't sure if he mistakenly misworded what he was trying to convey or if I was reading his line completely wrong DP. Just was curious if he meant the opposite based on what was said one sentence prior along with the inclusion of Brylin on the 2nd line.

1st line: Brylin (20g 30a 50p) - Gomez (15g 50a 65p) - Mogilny (35g 38a 73p)

Brylin scored 14g 19a while being used as a utility forward with limited powerplay time. He will increase his scoring by playing with two top flight forwards.

2nd line: Elias (28g 33a 61p) - Parise (17g 36a 53p) - Gionta (25g 15a 40p)

Elias will have a year similar to 02-03, a transition year, with him playing with a new center (assuming he plays with Parise). Gionta will continue to develop, and Parise will put up very solid numbers.

3rd line: Pandolfo (10g 12a 22p) - Madden (25g 15a 35p) - Langenbrunner (18g 27a 45p)

Pando will fall back to earth, putting up good numbers for him. The new rules will help out Madden a lot, and he'll be the centerpiece of this line both offensively and defensively. Langs will be solid.

4th line: Oliwa (3g 3a 6p) - Rasmussen (5g 17a 22p) - Marshall (11g 7a 18p)

Solid numbers from a patchwork group of grinders/rookies.

All in all that's 212 goals. Seems reasonable enough.

Jason, I guess you dont have freeze/kozlov in the mix? Do you think they'll be gone or, a few of the names below?

Friesen and Kozlov are as good as gone IMO. Stock up for the strong 2006 draft.
