Ilya Bryzgalov: "It is very complicated situation. I do not have a choice, even if I wanted to. This season I have to play in Anaheim. It is either I play nowhere, not in Avangard, not in Anaheim or I have to be a "duck". I had a discussion with my agent and officials of Anaheim and they have very strickt position and said either I play for them or am without a job for a season. I can not play in Russia, I can not play in America, not on international tournaments, not for national team, there is no sense to even think of Olymic Games or World Championships."
- Ilya do You have one way or two way contract?
Ilya Bryzgalov: "It is a one way contract. I will not drop into farm team."

Wow, try to contain that enthusiasm, Ilya!
his moral is so down. I even don`t know how they are going to rise it up.

It might have a lot to do with disagreements he had with the Cincy coach last season in the AHL. He obviously doesn't want to play with Anaheim either though.
The coaches in the AHL were the problem. He only stayed in the AHL last season waiting for the NHL to start and was going to play there. He agreed with the team that if the season didn't start by a set date then he would go play in Russia. After he came back from a small trip with Team Russia, the coach in Cinnci turn against him. He didn't let him play in Russia, go to the Worlds or even play in games. The coach really didn't like him. All because he had a team Russia cap on his head going back from the internatinal games.
There was an article posted over at AllDucks. I'll see if I can find it.
Pepper 08-17-2005, 04:05 PM I hope Ducks never draft another russian, bunch of headcases.
I was wrong. It was posted here on HF first. Link to topic (http://www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=154006)
slumpy43 08-18-2005, 12:40 AM I hope Ducks never draft another russian, bunch of headcases. What would you say if you would play in Europe and the coach would tell you to get rid of your favorite team USA hat it or else you won't play??? And we thought this was a free country.... :shakehead
ILuvLA 08-18-2005, 02:51 AM He sure sounds enthused about being in Anaheim this coming season.. NOT... Problems with the AHL coaches/staff are one thing - but he's not dealt with Burke et all yet...

he had problems with brad shaw who is no longer involved with the team.
But that doesn't get rid of bad feelings. If there was one teacher at school who hated you, even after they've left you still don't like going there.
Professor John Frink 08-18-2005, 11:41 AM He is here playing in Anaheim, thats all that matters.
As long as he gets to play a solid amount of time and they make him feel welcome he will easily forget about all that other crap.
If he feels like he is an important part of the team we may even be able to convince himt o come back next season.
Kevin Forbes 08-18-2005, 02:52 PM I think playing for Russia at the Olympics will help

he won't play
Khabibulin > Nabokov > Bryzgalov
Doesn't one the them not play for Russia out side of the worlds cup? I remeber on player does. Anyway, they need to take three keepers, so he may get a game is some one drops.

Deja vu with Sammy Pahlsson. No worries.

Funny I thought the same thing. Of course Sammy is currently having contract issues too. But if Bryz were to rebound the way Sammy did it would be great.
RussianProspects 08-20-2005, 09:42 PM Nabokov is the one who couldn't play for Russia at one point, since he is Kazakh. But the rule was changed, pretty much just for him, to allow players to switch the nationality once. So, he switched to Russian nationality, but hasn't have a chance to represent Russia at any tournament yet for various reasons, including injury. So, all three can represent Russia.
Khabi is a different story all together, since he doesn't want to play for the national team.
Nabokov and Bryzgalov are the present and future of Russia's national team in the net.
Regarding Bryz's last season, he was very much upset about the absence of the NHL. He responds best to challenges, and AHL is a challenge he already spent three prior years conquering. So, it wasn't much fun for him last year, despite having a one way contract. He is a very proud player and very ambitious.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if Solokov still looking at the national team at all?
RussianProspects 08-21-2005, 02:53 AM You are welcome. Sokolov is the go to guy if the NHLers don't show up. So, when Nabokov is injured, Bryzgalov is in Cinci and Khabi throws a fit, Sokolov got the call. I would imagine that Eremenko will soon be the next "back up" option for Russia, but right now Sokolov is #1 after those three.
