The more I think about it, I believe Burke is trying to sign Selanne for about 1.5 mil and trade Sykora for draft picks. This will clear up the CAP problem and will enable him to sign Salei to a long term contract. I believe this is workable for several reasons. He will be getting a right handed shooter which we definitely need, it frees up CAP space and solidifies our defense for several years. Selanne will enable us to get a scorer who will substantially replace the loss of Sykora. Sykora's contract is not much of a problem for many teams to handle.

I don't really see a workable fix for our LW weakness until a major roster overhaul can be completed, probably next season.
