Pahlsson doesn't accept qualifying offer; Salei's deadline postponed...

I already posted this in the Chistov thread because the article is mostly about him but the other info might get hidden away in that thread so...
The Ducks received permission from the NHL to postpone the deadline for restricted free-agent Ruslan Salei to accept his qualifying offer of $1.8 million as they try to sign the 30-year-old defenseman to a long-term deal.

Salei, who has spent his entire career with the Ducks, would become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

"I'm not sure we'll be able to get anything done because of the salary cap situation and it probably wouldn't affect us much for this year," Burke said. "The best way to say it is that we're cautiously optimistic."

Center Samuel Pahlsson, a restricted free agent, did not accept his qualifying offer of $459,800. The team still retains his rights. "I want him back but I'm not jumping off a bridge if he doesn't come back," Burke said.

The moves leave the Ducks with a little less than $4 million under the salary cap. Burke said he would like to be at about $37 million in payroll — $2 million below the cap — when the season begins and left open the possibility that he will make a trade to free up more money.

That's funny.

I wonder if Sammi overvalues his own importance to the team.

I'm not surprised he didn't accept it because $459,800 is really low for him.

Pahlsson seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place because I doubt he could get more money playing in Europe. I have a feeling Pahlsson is just posturing right now but he'll sign by training camp. What else is he going to do?

Burke has no reason to overpay for Pahlsson. Offer him 500,000 and tell him to take it or have fun in Sweden.

Exactly, Pahlsson needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

I agree. I think he's proven to be worth well more than the league minimum. He was sixth in ice time for us (among forwards) last year for a reason. I hope Burke doesn't burn the bridge with him.

There is always the danger of another team signing Pahlsson and giving up compensation for him, most likely a third round pick. But I doubt any GM would burn bridges for Sami Pahlsson.

Plenty of Sami Pahlsson's out there, no way a team wastes a pick just to sign Sammy.

heathen!

If he's signed by someone else for less the 550k we get no compensation. However, one would assume that we would match a deal at 550k

Something in between $500k and $600k is good for Pahlsson. I don't think he would find much better anywhere else. Hopefully Burke can get something done with Salei long-term, I'd hate to see him sign a one year deal and be gone next year.

Get use to these "nuggets"...Burkie has a million of them. Sigh. I miss Burkie.

I agree that his market value in europe shouldn't be that high. However, I'm not so sure that he can't get about $400-500k a year over here though. Påhlsson is very highly regarded over here and Frölunda (where he played last year and they have expressed the wish to keep him there) is a very wealthy club, they can afford to pay him on the level of his QO and more if they wanted to.

I seriously doubt that to be honest.

Frölunda Indians has well over SEK 100 millions on the bank, so they could actually - if they wanted to. Which I doubt strongly...

pahlsson probably looked at this website and saw all the "pahlsson is god" avatars and such. After seeing all the love we give him he's gained quite a large head it seems...
